Here is a SHORT EXCERPT, from latimesblogs.latimes.com:
...Palm Desert Councilman Bob Spiegel told The Times that based on early reports, two rival groups shopping at the store had some kind of argument and then shots were fired. Two men were killed in the exchange of gunfire, he said.

Sara Frahm, 25, of La Quinta, was shopping for electronic toys at the time of the shooting. She told The Times she heard two women fighting and swearing in an aisle next to her. She said employees went to break up the fight and that all of the sudden a number of people yelled, “He has a gun!” She said she heard six or seven shots.

Mike Stitt of Yucca Valley was shopping with his wife and two children when he saw two women fighting and calling each other names. Both were with men.

One of the men pulled out a gun and shot in in the air, then shot the other man in the back, Stitt told The Times.

In a statement, Toys R Us stressed the shooting appeared to stem from a "personal dispute."

I can’t remember toys for Christmas , mostly just some clothes. I used to want dolls. I always wanted a Barbie. There were also dolls up high in the grocery store. I would pick one out but never get it. It seems every Christmas I would excitedly open presents for my doll but just socks, underwear etc. So... predictably I started out, overdoing it with my kids but over time got realistic. They get socks and underwear but I make sure the kids get at least one toy they want too. My DIL just told me to get my grandkids clothes this year. She said they didn’t need any more toys. Can’t do that, though. Oh, and by the way, I collect Barbie dolls. I buy them for myself lol.

My daughter is 11 and looks like she’s 15. As I took her shopping for her brothers presents I remembered that she is still just a little girl as she was showing me Barbie dolls and princess items she wanted. I’m going to get her a little something extra in her stocking. She doesn’t need to grow up too fast.

Just in: Witness accounts of the shooting.
EXCERPT...Sherry Mudry, 37, of Palm Desert, said she just got done ringing up her purchases when she heard two girls arguing.

One of the girls was screaming, “He’s got a gun. He’s got a friggin’ gun.”

Customers laid on floor as the shots were fired, she said. Mudry said she kept down, trying to pretend she was dead.

“The gunshots were going over my head,” she said. “I could feel the wind from them.”

Paul Scott, 57, and Yvonne Scott, 53, from Nottingham, England, were outside and planning to go to the nearby Pizza Hut.

Paul Scott said he heard four or five gunshots. At first, he thought it was a toy gun. Then a dozen or so customers ran out of the toy store.

“It was chaotic. A bit of screaming,” he said. “There were people with babies trying to shield them.”

I collect Barbie dolls for Sassy. She has shelves of them. I remember getting my older sister's dolls for Christmas. I don't remember asking for very much as a child either. I know we didn't make any lists & we were happy with what we got.

I buy my granddaughers a play doll and a shelf doll. The shelf doll stays at my house to be handled under supervision. When they are older I’ll let them have them. I do the same with the boys. (baseball cards)

My kids have so many toys, they don’t care about new toys. We tell family members not to buy them toys, but they don’t listen and buy them anyway. My kids unwrap the gifts but don’t open the packages. Then they give the toys to the church charity.

The problem is that Indio is only 8 miles from that Toys R Us.

Indio gets featured in Cops.

99% Hispanic area.

Sassy cut the hair on a few of her collectible dolls so they've been packed away. She knows better then to touch the boxed Barbies. I am trying to get the first Harley Barbie but refuse to pay what anyone on ebay wants for it. We both share a collection of old half dolls but they stay behind glass in my room.

Some local reports and a gaming blog indicate the altercation began over a fight for an X-Box or a Madden 2009 electronic game by two women, and escalated with their men using handguns.

We got nuts, hard candy, choc and a candy cane in an orange net stocking. Then I got a doll or dishes....Christmas was wonderful and magical and not the way it is today. We have more material items today but not the love, simplicity and appreciation we had in years past.

that’s how they live....giving what WE make to those who don’t want to make it themselves.
