Obama: Auto Executives 'Tone Deaf' to Concerns of Ordinary Americans

CHICAGO -- President-elect Barack Obama doesn't think much of big-business executives' ability to relate to the common man, especially in the wake of congressional testimony by the chiefs of Detroit's Big Three.

"Well, I thought maybe they're a little tone deaf to what's happening in America right now," Obama told ABC's Barbara Walters in interview excerpts released by the network. "And this has been a chronic problem, not just for the auto industry."

The heads of General Motors, Ford and Chrysler drew fire last week for flying to Washington in separate corporate jets to ask Congress for federal assistance for their ailing companies.

"We're sort of focused on them. But I think it's been a problem for the captains of industry generally," Obama told Walters in the interview, to air Wednesday. "When people are pulling down hundred million dollar bonuses on Wall Street, and taking enormous risks with other people's money, that indicates a sense that you don't have any perspective on what's happening to ordinary Americans."

Obama told Barbara Walters he has a problem with people "taking enormous risks with other people's money"

Well that's good news. Does this mean we can expect limited government and less taxes?

And if he's got a problem with the auto execs, he should teach them a lesson with NO BAILOUT.

Obama is going to out-Bush Bush, and the liberal media is going to love every minute of it.

Prepare to be sick or to gloat.

The UAW is the problem. Obama is showing he is a tyrant already.

Are they not heeding his advice to keep their tires inflated?

He obviously suffers from a deep inferiority complex, evidenced by his continuous desire to put down others.

Sure.

And what about the entitlement, pigs-at-the-trough unions?

Yes, including the “humble” rank and file union members.

I wouldn’t get too comfortable if I were you. Liberals don’t consider taxes “other people’s money”. Remember how tax cuts had to be paid for?

Yes they want a bailout but there’s nobody standing in line to buy the cars they want to build.

Every “business leader” who begs for TAX money IS tone-deaf, at best.

How can they ask someone who runs a business profitably and without Government help to subsidize their poorly run business? It’s arrogance at its peak.

Who do they think they are?

Why does it matter t o me if GM fails or not? It’s my choice what car I want to buy. If GM cannot stay in business for whatever reason, why should I care?

HOW THE HELL DOES CONGRESS KNOW WHAT PLAN WILL BE SUCCESSFUL? What knowledge do they have the auto industry? WTF. Congress will decide if the plan is sufficient? That’s complete bullshit. Congress shouldn’t even be involved in this.

Bingo! Politicians wouldn't know a successful business plan for the auto industry if it were staring them in the face. I've heard Barry and the other Democrats talking about how the Detroit 3 need to transform themselves into the world's leading producers of small, fuel-efficient "green" vehicles. A couple of problems... (1) Such vehicles are basically unprofitable; and (2) Consumers generally don't want them. Any "plan" that Congress thinks will be good for the auto industry will undoubtedly be worthless.

Question: HOW THE HELL DOES CONGRESS KNOW WHAT PLAN WILL BE SUCCESSFUL?

Are you kidding? Politicians know everything. Heck, they can even forecast the weather one hundred years in advance, down to one-tenth of one degree Centipede. They even know better than you do what kind of car you need. Fix the economy, fix the climate, save the planet... politicians do it all.

It will not surprise me if, after car-pooling to D.C., the Dimocratz accuse the three CEO’s of getting together to conspire to fix prices.

The last thing the RATS want is the auto makers to file for bankruptcy. A judge would oversee a corporate re-structure plan that would gut the UAW’s strangle hold on the industry. The RATS will give in to a bail out, probably more than once.

If using a corporate jet means you are out of touch, does that mean Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid will now fly economy class on a commercial airliner and drive themselves, without the limo, to the capital.

The UAW is the second problem. The main problem is the government regulations and standards that limits their ability to make a vehicle that is appealing enough and at a low enough cost to sell.

Dear Obama (who currently hold “The Office of the President Elect”:

If you think car executives are tone deaf, their hearing is perfect when compared to government at all levels. Because government only seems to care about rewarding the irresponsible.
