One of the lessons from this election is the destruction of the myth that Republicans who support amnesty for illegal aliens would do well among Hispanic voters.
No presidential candidate worked harder on illegal immigration amnesty than John McCain. In 2005, he sponsored an amnesty bill that became known as the McCain-Kennedy bill (co-sponsored by Sen. Kennedy). When that bill failed, he tried again the following year, with a variant of the McCain-Kennedy bill. That bill also failed. Unfazed, he tried yet again in 2007. If any one of those bills had passed, at least 10 million illegal aliens would have received amnesty.
In contrast, Sen. Barack Obama, though a supporter of amnesty, never authored a single major immigration bill. Yet, on Election Day, McCain, the Republican who had persevered on amnesty, was overwhelmingly rejected by Hispanic voters.

And the idiots are still trying to convince us to embrace their illegals.
A friend in Phx told me all these “immigrants” want is socialism, not amnesty. They see a rich, white country that can be taken advantage of to spread the wealth.

In other words, just like many American blacks.
How true. Amnesty and uncontrolled illegal immigration just pumps up the number of low-income voters who are used to a corrupt one-party system which makes them extra susceptible to Democrat Party promises of free Federal goodies.
Mexicans already have socialized medicine, a government mandated education curriculum, and a corrupt military. You combine them with a commercial oligarchy and a government kleptocracy and the result is chaos — or Los Angeles.
They probably figure it doesnt work in mexico because its a poor country anyway. Logically you would think all immigrants to America would be free market capitalists but thats just not the case.
Libs want to try socialism because they figure the right people didnt run it in Russia
Illegals want to try it because they see a rich country that can share.
Thats my theory.
I live in a SoCal city that probably has a higher number of illegals than the total populations of many small cities. This is a severe problem. But, the sooner we abandon the idea that one way or another we can get 12 million people (roughly the combined pop. of OK, MO, AR and KS) to leave; the sooner we can come up with a realistic solution. One idea might be a path to legal residency, where they pay taxes, stay out of trouble and off the dole, but can’t vote.
I wonder how many illegals ended up voting in our elections.
It’s likely more a failure of the McCain to make real inroads on the ground in latino communities. Although amnesty is an awful idea, it would certainly give the gop a place to start the conversation with these people. No issue is going to be a magic bullet that converts people to our side.
That said, i don’t think it’s even worth it in the final analysis. Regan already built a winning coalition, how about we pay attention to THAT instead of trying to reach out to new people we dont need and who don’t support our agenda?
It does among criminal alien Hispanics...
These tactics won't work on us . We free market , capitalist , conservatives know if you want something like this you must pay for it .
What effect do you think enacting AND enforcing a law that states that non citizens cannot receive FREE food stamps, FREE housing assistance, FREE medical services or any other taxpayer funded social service would have on prompting the 12 million illegals to go home?
What percentage of them do you think remain here because of these FREE social services?
I’m fed up at this point, Harry Reid today said that Amnesty will go through this time, and I know plenty of Democrats who are also against it. I want to know what the American people are going to do about the possibility of our population going up by 100 million, and who’s going to pay for the social services that will go along with it? and the infrastructure which will be effected?
