Ever since Mort’s wife became ill (and passed away), he has taken a liberal turn from which there has been no turning back. Mort, you are not a conservative anymore. You’re not even a Republican. Neither you nor your beltway buddy Fred Barnes can detect the real pulse of conservatives. I doubt you ever will.
I've watched Mort since 1989. He's always been liberal except on foreign policy.
What varies over time is his view of the GOP.
I think Mort has convinced himself that we bitter clingers are standing in the way of medical treatments (i.e., useless embryonic stem cell research) that would have saved his dear wife.
I would hope someone would take him aside and explain that isn’t true, but if they haven’t explained it to Nancy Reagan there’s not a lot of hope.

I did not realize that. She died in 2004 and that could explain certainly changes in his behavior or outlook.
He really has not contributed much in the way of intellectual discourse on Brit Hume’s show recently.
When he says stuff I know, I know he’s not that sharp.
