He insisted today that it was right for Britain and that lower earners would not suffer Alistair Darling said he 'makes no bones' about taxing the rich today as he defended his high tax, high borrowing £20billion giveaway. As the Tories claimed interest rate cuts would have been a far more effective way of easing the UK through a crippling recession, the Chancellor was brazen about targeting people who had made their fortunes under Labour. He insisted his Robin-Hood style mini-Budget was the right course for Britain and denied suggestions all but those earning less than £19,000 would lose out as a result of his emergency action. 'People (who earn) over £100,000 will actually be paying more, I make no bones about that, in three years' time, when the changes come through,' he said. 'But I believe that it is the right thing to do, to support our economy now, while at the same time making sure that as a country, we live within our means.' Borrowing will rocket to a record £300billion over five years to produce a national debt of more than £1trillion under the Government plans. The package will slash VAT by 2.5 per cent to 15 on Monday, cut the basic rate tax by £145 and give pensioners and parents cash in the New Year. However, the handout comes at a cost with a new top tax rate of 45p for those on more than £150,000 and a National Insurance rise hitting middle and high earners. And its success depends on rose-tinted forecasts that the recession will be over by next autumn - despite experts predicting it will last far longer.

Alistair Darling Obama.
Let me tell you how it will be There's one for you, nineteen for me 'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman Should five per cent appear too small Be thankful I don't take it all 'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah I'm the taxman If you drive a car, I'll tax the street, If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat. If you get too cold I'll tax the heat, If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet. Don't ask me what I want it for If you don't want to pay some more 'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman Now my advice for those who die Declare the pennies on your eyes 'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman And you're working for no one but me.
If the rich and super rich BO superstar supporters in this country were made to do their “patriotic duty” they would see all but say $10 million of their assets seized by the government. Nobody needs more than $10 million; right? They would be doing their part for the chosen one.
It doesn’t matter to them if the tax rate reaches 50% because with a half a billion dollars or more a larger tax bite does not affect their lifestyle. Give Oprah,Buffett and Soros and all of the sports, movie and singing stars a taste of what it is like to have to really gear down your lifestyle like the rest of us have to do when our taxes go up.
Over the years many Brits have fled overseas to escape the taxman...the Stones being among the most famous.I've heard it suggested that Ireland has about the lowest personal and business tax rates in Europe and London's just an hour flight from Dublin.
My God! How heartless can you be? Do you honestly expect Soros or the Kennedys to drive a two year old Chevy and fly Business Class rather than ride in a Mercedes stretch limo and fly in a Gulfstream IV?
You ought to be ashamed!
Hey!!
I think you have a good Idea!
After all, no one ‘needs” more than 10 million dollars- why doesn’t the government sieze all assets over 10 million dollars and use them “for the poor”
He’s not only a Darling, he’s a peach!
You bet I’m heartless when it comes to those cockroaches. I’m betting that their assets won’t need to be seized to make it hurt. With the tax hikes that are most likely coming the average guy who supports the rock stars, sports stars, the movies and the businesses owned by the super rich like Oprah will be cutting back drastically on their spending for movies, sports and other things. Buffett is big in the insurance areas and those will suffer as people have to make choices and turn down their spending and that of their kids. Hope the superstars have enough money to support each other. The cult of celebrity is crap and the average Joe needs to realize that they are worshipping and making shallow and brainless morons rich who care not a thing about them.
