I’ve never believed that economics will be the primary reason that breaks up the union...it will be POLITICS. Politics between the red and blue states. And people wonder why the left want to take away guns from law-abiding citizens..

Back during the Great Depression, many people were willing to abandon capitalism. They fully believed it ran its course and that communism was worth a try.
The same thing happened in Germany. The hyperinflationary period of the 1920s lead to such a deep economic depression that people were willing to do crazy things, even elect and support Adolph Hitler and make him dictator.
Today, we see the same pattern. People are willing to abandon capitalism and start trying socialist policies and systems. This is the historical evolution that frequently repeats itself that eventually leads to political collapse.
