Sanford ain’t an elitist. He’s as anti-Washington, anti-elite as they come. He truly is a grassroots conservative. I’ve never heard him say one cross word about Sarah Palin.

I really think it is because she's a woman.
I think these good ol' boy insiders can't fathom answering to a woman.
They can't stand it because she's a relative newcomer and they've been trying to climb the ladder for years to attain the status she has acheived virtually overnight.
And, she has the "baracuda" reputation of rooting out corruption in her own party, and that probably scares them too. I'm not saying that Sanford is any of these, but I do think these things are a factor amongst a lot of the old timers.
