SC Governor Sanford on Hannity and Colmes

Posted on 11/24/2008 7:14:12 PM PST by teg_76

When asked who he though would be the future of the Republican party, he went out of his way NOT to mention Palin. He pretty much mentioned every other Republican governor. Even Rick Perry which made me queezy.

I really think these guys have trouble with the fact that a woman is out shining them.

That’s only true if the person in question is a right-winger. They’re very willing to support extreme social liberals.

Willing to support social liberals, yes, but many are hesitant to support candidates who make social issue an important part of their message. Obama was incredibly successful with this group, and he rarely brought up divisive social issues, particularly when talking to young people.

I believe he talked about gay rights and abortion more when he talked to young people than when he spoke to the elderly (which only makes sense, given each demo’s views on such matters), so I’m not sure you’re right about that.

There are a number of issues from prostitution to drug legalization to gay rights where the young are much more willing to vote for open radicalism than older voting blocs.

I wasn’t so bothered by him not mentioning her as I was by him laughing when Colmes asked about her. I don’t care if Sanford is a Conservative it was flat out juvenile and disrespectful Grow up boys.

I think discussion of abortion and gay rights (beyond a few broad platitudes) was largely limited to talks to these interest groups. You’re right that young voters tend to be more socially liberal, but most of them—except for the extreme ones who would vote Democratic anyway—are not going to get fired up by appeals to social issues. Obama recognized this, and I think it’s why he was able to be so successful with even young “evangelical” voters of the sort who fill Rick Warren’s church. Many of these voters knew vaguely he was liberal on social issues, but had no real idea just how liberal he was because it was so rarely discussed.

She has governed successfully already - 80% approval ratings (prior to the election), a budget surplus, a balanced budget, money back to the people, ethics reform, and energy production increases. She is a sound conservative with solid convictions. For me, it comes down to trust - and I trust her over the other good ol boys who are career politicians.

I can understand your caution. But I don’t know what more we need to see. She is who she is and she has a backbone to stand up to the liberals. And most of these guys don’t have that.

The media doesn’t truly understand “Palin Power” or some do that’s why they are after her to destroy her. Interestingly, Palin Evolution follows the same life cycle of a butterfly. Her time in Alaska can be compared to the egg stage of a butterfly. Now, she is in the caterpillar stage. She absorbs all the abuse and grows rapidly. Her image might look a little ugly right now. But, she is consuming everything that comes in her way and growing exponentially in front of our own eyes. Soon, she will enter into a pupa stage. She will be groomed silently by some group of advisers to be a great leader. Remember she has some work to do in debating, media handling, national security and economic issues. She might go on a hiatus for a few months. The Obama maniacs and other Republican leaders might rejoice they finally got rid of her. But, when she breaks the shell and comes out she will be a truly “Monarch” butterfly. She will draw almost cult like following. People will be calling her “Reagan Reincarnated”. Even the media have to cover her continually just to boost their ratings.
That’s the Sarah we need and we will get it soon. Be paient.
