A Millbrae high school teacher who was arrested after installing a video camera in the ceiling of a girls' restroom at the school was sentenced this morning to two years in state prison, San Mateo County Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
David Lista, 36, will also have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and was ordered to pay $6,700 in restitution to the San Mateo Union High School District, Wagstaffe said.
Lista, a Belmont resident who taught English and leadership at Mills High School, pleaded no contest on Aug. 28 to felony possession of child pornography, felony possession of methamphetamine and two misdemeanor counts of unlawful videotaping, Wagstaffe said.
One of the misdemeanor counts was for placing a camera in the ceiling of a girls' restroom adjacent to his classroom; the other was for a camera Wagstaffe said was attached to Lista's desk and angled to film up girls' skirts.
Lista was arrested in March after a school technology coordinator who was checking a server to see why it was running slowly stumbled upon images of students using the bathroom.
A subsequent search of Lista's home turned up methamphetamine, and computers he had used contained images of child pornography, prosecutors said.
Wagstaffe said Lista was tearfully apologetic at his sentencing this morning and blamed his behavior on his drug habit.
San Mateo Union High School District Superintendent David Miller spoke on behalf of the prosecution today, detailing the emotional impact of the case on the school community, Wagstaffe said.
At the conclusion of the hearing, Judge Stephen Hall handed down Lista's sentence and remanded him into custody, Wagstaffe said.
Lista's attorney, Elizabeth Grossman, was not immediately available for comment Monday afternoon.
It appears more and more that the public school system is a gathering for PERVERTS protected by the public school system and ultimately the unions. And of course YOUR TAXES pay for this crap.

Drugs may help you escape yourself but you are a PERVERT. All the drugs in the world won’t correct your troubled soul. Stop the excuses. Castrate the guy and be done with it.

Lately, so many high school sex offenders have been female, and that was my first assumption when I saw the headline.
Something needs to be cut.
So a female can actually SCREW a fifteen y/o and get probation.(as well as the asinine guilty/not guilty comments. . . stooopid.) A man films them and he's finished.This is wrong. Men who do fifteen-year-old girls should not have a greater sentence than women who do fifteen-year-old boys.
