In Alaska, The Drill Is Gone (It's the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals again)

Energy: Remember those 68 million acres House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the oil companies had to use or lose? According to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco, they can't drill there either.

When President Bush lifted the executive order banning oil and gas exploration in federally protected offshore areas, Speaker Pelosi called the action a giveaway of "more public resources to the very same oil companies that are sitting on 68 million acres of federal lands they've already leased."

We thought it was nonsense to accuse the oil companies of sitting on profitable oil resources waiting for sky-high oil prices to rise even higher. We still do. With gas prices having fallen back to earth, her vast oil-rig conspiracy theory seems to have fallen flat.

Proving it was so much hot air was Royal Dutch Shell's recent expenditure of $2.1 billion to acquire oil leases in the Chukchi Sea off Alaska and spending $84 million to buy leases in the Beaufort Sea. Clearly they weren't sitting on anything and wanted to drill and wanted to get these oil and gas reserves into the hungry American economy.

Last Thursday, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals blocked a major drilling effort in the Beaufort Sea, ruling that federal officials failed to properly address environmental concerns when they granted permission to Shell Oil to drill there. The decision followed a temporary order issued last year that halted Shell's drilling at Sivulliq, 16 miles off the coast of northern Alaska.

"There remains substantial questions as to whether Shell's plan may cause significant harm to the people and wildlife of the Beaufort Sea region," the current ruling said.

Those are on land. Palin complained of the same thing, oil companies taking leases to lock up the oil.

Greedy oil executives aren't the ones who block developing existing leases. It's environmental activists and their black-robed friends.

The 9th circuit is a bad joke and Pelosi is even worse. Yet, the people of CA continue to put people like her in office. The sad thing is that her influence spreads beyond the gates of San Francisco.

Has anyone ever questioned how someone that stupid got into such a high position? I've heard that Pelosi has mob money behind her and that she blackmailed her way into the position. Does anyone know if there's any truth to that?

Well, one reason is that grassroots conservatives bought the MSM myth that Hastert was responsible for Mark Foley 2 years ago and refused to support our Speaker.

Thus we got Gay-State Speaker Pelosi.

Pelosi’s father is Baltimore mayor Tom D’ellassandro according to a freeper with the handle “massgopguy.” That freeper said her dad’s connected to Meyer Lanskey and Lucky Luciano but I can’t confirm as it’s not something I’ve ever researched.

Bush can open up every acre of the USA for drilling but it will not drilled just to recover oil that will sell for $50.00.

It took years of fighting the self appointed Caribou Care Givers who cried that the Caribou wouldn't be able to migrate and would dwindle down to a very small number of animals.

Well they were partly right, they don't have to migrate so far anymore as the pipeline is so warm that they congregate around it.

And breed and breed and breed.

They are more numerous than ever now.

These Judges using "environment protection" as a ruse to stifle progress and keep us dependent on terrorist/dictators for our energy needs.

And many of them are in the "progressive" party of liberal democrats.

When we are standing in long lines for our weekly ration of $5+ per gallon gasoline we can blame Congress and the Courts.

Lord...remember its gonna take 10 years, opps 8 years oops
ok 5 years to see oil from off shore drilling. Wanna bet oil will NOT be $50 in a year. Mr. Bush can open it up but the 9th circus will slam the door shut. Can’t wait to see the first windmill powered locomotive.

Shell knows oil is $50 at the source and they still want to invest...??? Evil OIL companies cannot win no matter what they do can they? Geez

Over the last month I have seen E&P projects that have been delayed or cancelled. As for myself I have had to revise bids on three projects due to the drop in oil prices.

So, for now E&P and service companies will go elsewhere to work where we may actually be able to make some money.

I am from Maryland as well and word on the street is that she is in fact connected to the mob - my friend hung out w/ her nephew recently - not on purpose but met him at a party in Baltimore - he is a stripper and was doing drugs w/ Anna Nicole when she died. Pelosi and family are classy!

This is absurd. We just had gasoline spike at over $4.00 per gallon, yet we won’t develope reliable domestic sources of oil. The government is not acting in our interest.

Not to be rude, but what took you so long? I've had zero faith in Government since the day I turned 18 and was able to vote. (That was 28 years ago...)

Ronald Reagan had it exactly correct: Government is the problem, NOT the solution!

wouldn’t be surprised in the least..but let me tell you something about the people of california.. there are 3 separate parts of california.. the north and the south which are large and liberal, and the center, which is conservative and much smaller.. the north and south control the rest of us, and put morons in office.. the only hope we had for 8 passing was that the blacks in the north and the south didn’t want it either.
