I think you giving your homemade quilts is a wonderful idea. It’s from your heart and they will last a lot longer than flashy electronics, and younger kids who may not appreciate them now will certainly appreciate them later.
>>We are reducing our gifts to ourselves and family and taking ourselves to Florida for two months - Feb/Mar as a Christmas Gift. We have lived in Knoxville, Tn for 17 years.<<
Do you have grandchildren?
I can’t imagine skipping kid’s gifts for a trip.
Your Grandsons will have wonderful memories, too. :)
Best Buy’s not going to go away soon. My next door neighbor is an attorney at their corporate headquarters in Richfield, MN.
She says Best Buy is hurting, but nowhere near the verge of bankruptcy.
Cash is always good, though. They can actually save it or spend it anywhere. I’d go with cash.
My Parents would have done something like that.
They adored their Grandchildren!
Pitifully, they were gone before mine were born.
God Love you!
I attended the Gun Show in SLC yesterday and today. I gave up yesterday after two hours. Couldn't get close to a table.
I talked to a vendor who travels/sells regularly with this sponsor. Yesterday's attendance was 15,000 paid. The most they've had here! He also told me of the show in Tulsa 3 weeks ago, just before election. Attendance for the weekend was over 35,000.
Re: your shopping, I'm hoping Santa likes my chosen calibers or brings me plenty of coal.
Hmmmmm, recession? It sure didn't look like it to us!
Better idea:
NEW ORLEANS!
Tell me why.
I’m going to miss J Jill. Eons ago, I worked at Casual Corner. It was so sad when they went out of business a couple of years ago. I loved their clothes.
We have 27 Grand/GreatGrand Children. I said “reducing” - that doesn’t mean Skipping.
When a Married Couple reach the ages of 72/74 they have a right to selfishly do nice things for themselves. Our Grand/Great Grand Children get more stuff than they appreciate.
Went to a gun show in the Poconos last weekend . Opened at 9:00 am. Got there at 9:20 and had to hunt down a parking place . People were standing in a light rain waiting to get in . Really hard to make it down the aisle with all the crowd. Mostly cash deals .People are being proactive in light of the Obamamessiah’s view on gun control .
Another BIG one at Valley Forge, PA . on Dec 19-21.

I have in-laws with the same attitude.
My parents were different. They didn’t have to give gifts but being with them was the gift. All the Grandchildren suffered when they died and remember them fondly.
I would give my right arm to have had my children know my parents. They know their Paternal Grandparents, and how much they actually want to see them. After a while, being a trophy and a picture to show off to the Grandparent’s friends gets old.
Just went to Cabela’s in MO this past week for the first time. What a store! My daughter loved the animal displays and we had to get ornaments for ourseles and some of our sportsmen friends.
I’m hoping that it’s just their bricks-and-mortar stores closing. Judging from the number of catalogs I receive, I hope their online retail business is here to stay. But if not, oh well, I have enough of their clothes to last all my life by now, LOL. Most of their styles are “classic” lines that are never either the height of fashion nor out of fashion.
I plan on buying lots of food delicacies for presents. Jars of special honey, tins of Orange Pekoe tea, a bottle of extra fine olive oil.
I shall give each person their favorite food treat, I hope.
Save up! Buy hi-cap magazines, pay cash!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Avoid the rush, avoid the cars and driving, avoid the shoppers. Shop online. (And make money doing it!)
Give the universal gift card ... Money ... maybe gift cards seem a little more elegant (hah) but money is always welcome, you can use it anywhere and you don’t have to worry about going out and spending gift cards, store closings, nothing.
Have fun in Vegas, guy who’s going.
