Clinging to My Guns, Salt, and Light Bulbs

It’s not just Second Amendment rights that Americans should be worried about, and it’s not just President-elect Obama whom Americans should be worried about when it comes to the infringement of our rights — Congress and smaller state and city governments all have their fat, grubby fingers in the pie as well.

Take, for instance, New York City Mayor Mike “Nanny” Bloomberg’s latest attempt to micromanage his constituents. Having already banned smoking in public places and the use of trans fats by restaurants within city limits, Bloomberg now wants to “reduce the salt in processed food by 20 percent over the next five years.”

No wonder he’s looking to skirt the two-term limit approved by the voters — he’s not done yet telling them how to live their lives. Mary Poppins added a spoonful of sugar to help the medicine go down, but she too would probably be in Bloomberg’s sights, as he may be planning to cut sugar out of your diet as well as salt and fat.

What’s next for New Yorkers? Cutting out certain foods entirely? Could it be goodbye to fried chicken? Donuts? Pastrami sandwiches?...

I was wondering the other day why we here in PA have to go to state stores to buy our liquor. It’s odd how you get used to something and don’t wonder why it’s the state’s business to tell you where you can get a bottle of wine. Or vodka. Or that you can only get it from the state. How did we let that happen?

I wonder if they’ll be watering down the liquor next? If too much salt is not good can percentage of alcohol be far behind?

I have a few CFLs in my home. Basically, I have placed them in hard to reach places, where I know that my children can’t get at them and break them. The conveenience of not having to switch these bulbs out is my main reason for having them.

I haven’t had to change one yet, but the thought occurs to me; what will I do with the old ones when that time eventually comes?

Pack them carefully and send them to Congress. They pushed for them so it follows they must know what to do with them.

In Britain they are getting ready to outlaw happy hours, and make drinking games illegal. People still forget the lessons of Prohibition, except now they will use judges to make it illegal, instead of a Constitutional amendment.

From the all-too prophetic movie, "Demolition Man."

Didn't have to amendment the Constitution to make marijuana illegal.

Next stop, tobacco.

And it’s not just ‘rats we have to watch, our “own” are just as determined to stab us in the back and attack our rights and liberty, ie

Rep. Mark Kirk [R-IL]
Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen [R-FL]
Rep. Michael Ferguson [R-NJ]
Rep. Christopher Shays [R-CT]
Rep. Michael Castle [R-DE]

Rep. Mark Kirk has introduced a bill, H.R. 6257: Assault Weapons Ban Reauthorization Act of 2008, which would “To reinstate the Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act.” The other four are co-sponsors.

I don’t trust any of them anymore. Every last one of the bloodsuckers seems to be working together to impose tyranny.

“What’s next for New Yorkers?”

Not to worry. This will be solved when national-rationing-of-just-about-everything kicks in.

Probably sometime in late January, 2009.

Coming to a government store near you.

Ponder what the acronym “BATF” stands for and you’ll know what’s coming [or going] next.
