I have never had a more wonderful dog than my pit bull, collie mix. He was so wonderful.
That being said my dumb neighbors let their kids come into my yard to mess around with my lab on her rope. I hate this!!! Parents need to teach their children to stay away from dogs that are not their own. My lab is a good girl, thank God, but I don’t know about the neighbor’s kids. Are they good or could they ever be mean. I tell them to stay out of my yard and not to go near my dog. They think I am mean. I wouldn’t have to be if their parents weren’t so stupid!

Yes, it is the parents’ responsibility to keep their kids away from dogs that want to maul them. In fact, parents who allow their kids to be mauled by dogs should be sued by the owner of the dog. /sarc

A lab is not the same as a pit bull, primarily in brute strength, but let's throw temperament in as well.

It is wise to be leery of neighboring kids.

Friends of mine had a bee-yoo-tiful dog named Max. Only too late did they learn about neighborhood kids coming up to the house to torture him while they were out.

They’d grab hold of him, sometimes on motorbikes/4-wheelers, and yank him into the shock zone of his collar (invisible fence).

Eventually he became inured to the shocks and couldn’t be trusted to stay home. He also might take pre-emptive nips at unsuspecting targets who - I dunno, I guess they reminded him of the people who hurt him. Never broke the skin, but put his owners in danger of lawsuit on several occasions.

Poor guy spent the rest of his life in his pen or on a lunge line. I loved gentleman Max, would have loved to’ve gotten my hands on those kids and their parents.

He was a collie.
