Boeing management warned workers Thursday that employment will fall in 2009 and that layoffs are possible, an ominous sign that even the previously booming aerospace sector is staggering from the worldwide economic downturn.

A memo from Boeing's Executive Council said the company next year anticipates lower military spending and a potential global recession in the airline industry.

...

The internal Boeing memo came after the top leadership, the Executive Council, met this week to review its long-range business plan.

...

Not mentioned in the memo is the revenue hit from the Machinists strike.

Boeing is supposed to lay off people now, not in 2009. Everything wrong with the world is supposed to be firmly placed on Bush’s shoulders.

First the mechanics had a strike then the engineers threatened. Boeing has a $240 billion backlog in airplanes, so if anything there should be no cutbacks.

Just wondering if the Mechanics Union bosses got a nice bonus after the strike that ultimately hurts the workers because it so successfully undermined the company?

All boeing had to do was fire up the engines to wake up the airframe mechanics sleeping off their lunch in the rear baggage compartment. I know something about flightline people.

Trust the unions to pick the worst possible times to go on strikes.
Everyone one of them that do deserve to loose their jobs.

Just because one section of Boeing has work doesn't mean all departments are doing well. The company has to make cuts where and when it's necessary.

Beoing should cut back becase it has so much useless overhead but they certainly cannot claim lack of revenue.

I was laid off by Boeing in 1970 (IIRC), after 3 years of steady overtime. Probably the best thing that ever happened to me. I found a better job that lasted over 30 years.

LOL...at the rate they are going with errors, parts engineered wrong “by Boeing engineers” not out sourced enginers...maybe never.

But they may be saved by the bad economy simply because airlines are pulling back and taking aircraft off line

Maybe they should take the big three approach, go bankrupt and relocate to another country.

Couldn’t happen to a better state. I said this on another thread and I say it again:

I hope this economy gets in such a mess that all the high expectations the world has for B. Hussin Obama are shattered within 6 months of his first term. And then, watch everybody who voted for him (welfare queens, libs, ultra libs, media, 20 million blacks, mo HOs and HO-mos) turn on him like a pack of rabid dogs.

Bring it frickin’ on!!!
