CNN: Can Romney Save GOP? (MSM picking candidates again)
CNN ^

Posted on 11/21/2008 7:50:09 AM PST by Retired Greyhound

The former business consultant and founder of Bain Capital handled economic issues during his campaign with an ease and confidence that seemed to elude Sen. John McCain. As the stock market tanked throughout the fall, a growing chorus of conservative pundits speculated Romney would have boosted the GOP ticket considerably more than Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin did.

“It’s going to be time for one of two people, in my opinion: Sarah Palin or Bobby Jindal.”

Loser gets the bottom of the ticket.

Romney did not propose government run health care. You can disagree with what he did, but you should be truthful about what it was.

He was looking for a way to solve the problem of free riders, flooding the emergency rooms and skipping out on the bills, and avoid “government run health care.” He proposed a system of mandatory health insurance, but left both the insurance and the health care in the market, with government picking up the premiums for the poor. As I understand it, most of the fiscal problems have arisen from changes made to the proposal by the Democrat legislature.

Not one of his boys will enlist and that preserves a perfect record by the Romney men, going all the way back to pre civil war days. It fits in with his anti war father's presidential candidacy and avoidance of service during WWII and Mitt's staying in Bordeaux, France during the draft and Vietnam. BULL! RomneyCare is government run health care insurance and the first step towards socialized medicine. It’s mandated, subsidized and controlled by the government. Forcing people to purchase a service against their will is called tyranny. Subsidizing the premiums for those who can't afford it is called socialism.

At a time when only a tiny percentage of the population is volunteering for a pared down military, it is silly to label the rest as “immoral.”

Mitt’s dad was born in 1907. He was too young for WWI and too old for WWII. True, Mitt got student and mission deferments when he was of draft age, but, again, those who served in the military were a minority. I think the military is a wonderful, honorable choice for a career. And when there is a general threat requiring the response of all able-bodied men, all able bodied men should respond. But there is nothing wrong with choosing another career.

DOUBLE BULL! My Father was born in 1908 and entered WWII at the age of 35! He landed on Normandy Beach and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

Not one of his boys will enlist...

You haven't answered my questions.

Do you think that it's immoral that he nor his sons have served in the military?

Do you think that he, or his sons, should be disqualified from holding public office because they have not served in the military?

And, here are a few more questions:

Who builds the aircraft carriers, Humvees, tanks, fighter planes, rifles, ammunition, food, uniforms, etc. used by the military?

Who pays for those things?

What if everyone served in the military, but nobody ran businesses and paid billions of dollars in taxes?

My point is, as critical and honorable as it is that men and women serve in the military (check my posting history and you'll see that I'm a big supporter), there are other roles which are critical as well.

Without men like Mitt Romney who create America's wealth, we couldn't afford to have the greatest military in history!

A great military requires a great deal of money, and Americans like Mitt Romney are the reason we have that money.

The US Pravda had deemed Romney our savior, knowing full well that he would be the final nail in the coffin of the Republican party.

WHINE, SOB, CRY, Are you a Willardbot?

Wow, a little defensive, eh? I like Romney, but I don't think he's electable. As I said in another post, I think it needs to be Palin or Jindal the next time around.

Anyway you stay classy.

Your father was the exception. I’m not old enough to remember, but my father in law was about George Romney’s age — maybe even a little younger. He wasn’t called up until the very end, because he had a houseful of kids. And then, the war ended before he actually reported.

No Romney man has ever served our nation and of the five boys not a one will enlist, so the Romney family tradition lives on.

“Mitt’s dad was born in 1907. He was too young for WWI and too old for WWII. “

Since the draft went to age 38 and for a while to age 45, what makes you think that a 34 year old was too old to serve?

One of my favorite stories was Ronald Reagan in the back of a limousine with some hippie holding a sign up to his window saying “We Are The Future”. Reagan took out a legal pad and wrote “I’ll Sell My Stock” and held it up in the window to the hippie.

The Romneys immigrated from England as Mormon converts. They weren’t even Americans “pre-civil war.” And when they got here, they went to the frontier, and then to Utah, where the Mormons had been driven. They had no reason to have any alliances with the North or the South. Although the Mormons were anti-slavery.

Madonna is worth almost five times what Romney is. I don’t know why the Romney men have a perfect historical record of never serving our nation, but they do, you would think that one of those boys would want to rebel against the family tradition.

I have seen the dates for them arriving here as 1842 and 1849, either way that pre dates the civil war and in the 160 years since then the Romneys have not served, but two of them in a row have tried to become war time leaders.

Romney/Palin 2012 Agreed. They would make an excellent team.

Don't agree, their policies are very different. Sarah would have done even better as VP if she had ran with a conservative candidate. Romney is another RINO loser. We don't need any more of those. If you wanted Sarah in the top spot I might take Romney but not with Slick on top.

If Sarah isn't the Presidential candidate for the Republican party in 2012, I, for one(and I am not alone on this, be assured), will work to get a third party to take her as a candidate.

The constitution party already holds all conservative principles and if not them I will work to start another party, a conservative party. I will never vote RINO again, this election cured me of that.

You're making this up as you go along and its not convincing.

Men who served in WWII range in age from 16 to 50. They drafted from age 18-38, briefly from 18-45. EVERYONE had to register from 18-65 years old. The average age was 23.

Some well known Americans who enlisted in the military were patriots like liberal Hank Fonda 38, Republican Jimmy Stewart 35 and The King, Clark Gable, 42 years old. 35 wasn't the exception. There were 16 million Americans who served in WWII. With 4-5 million on the front lines. Like my Father.

NO Romney has ever served the USA in any capacity of military service. Never happened!
