First burn violators get warnings in Bay Area
Contra Costa Times ^ | 11/20/8 | Denis Cuff

Posted on 11/20/2008 6:57:29 PM PST by SmithL

The first mandatory no-burn alert in the Bay Area resulted in nine residents getting caught for lighting wood fires.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District will send warning letters to the violators of the Spare the Air alert, which was in effect from noon Wednesday to noon Thursday. Repeat offenders can be fined hundreds or thousands of dollars.

Six of the nine violators were reported by neighbors, and three were detected by air district inspectors out in the field, said Aaron Richardson, a district spokesman.

Regardless of how a violation is reported, an air district inspector must witness the burning to issue a warning letter or citation.

The public can arrange to get automatic notification of no burn nights by visiting www.sparetheair.org or by calling 1-800-430-1515.

Glad I can burn here. The only thing I can’t do is take wood out of the county. (emerald ash borer)

Is it still legal to burn the American flag in San Francisco?

I fought this and spoke to the AQ district guy who was running it. But all the public meetings brought out the pantywaist types who complained of “allergies” to wood smoke and mythical deaths due to wood smoke. They are predicting 20 no-burn nights the first year out of a total wood burning season of maybe 100 to 120 days. Next year it’ll be 30 nights, then 40, then 60 and a very short hop, skip and jump to a complete ban on wood burning.

But that’s ok because The One favors a strong domestic energy exploration and recovery agenda that is sure to lower the cost of natural gas, oil and coal for all.

Yeah all the flamers are really getting heated up over the Prop 8.

Anyhow--

And so it begins.... neighborhood snitches reporting to the authorities --

-0615 neighbor Jones lights fire in house; smoke witnessed from chimney

-0830 Mrs. Jones witnessed returning from grocery store with more than her family's alloted ration.

-0925 neighbor Jones and neighbor Smith appear to hold "prayer" session at neighbor Jones' residence. -1045 neighbor Jones overheard complaining about life in the USSA

remarks -- since neighbor Jones apparently believes his family is entittled to a comfortable lifestyle and not a proponent of the New Hope and Change, he is probably not a loyal comrade and should be placed under increased scrutiny. Alpha Squadron of the Civilian Defense Corps is tasked with this mission.

Some 'neighbors' would be in for a run of really bad days...

Wood, manufactured logs, and pellets. No burning on "save the air days".

Ironically, I had a neighbor call the fire Department on me in 2003: my woodstove was cooking and "it smelled "dangerous". Turns out, it was some illegals burning an auto tire in their fireplace, somewhere in the vicinity.

I really can't add more to this post. The story is just too ridiculous. You just really can't want to know. No, they didn't get in trouble....
