4 months after trial, Rezko is still in the same lousy lockup conditions he complained about
Chicago Tribune ^ | 11-21-08 | Jeff Coen

t was a memorable moment in the run-up to the corruption trial of Antoin "Tony" Rezko when the onetime political high roller complained to a judge that he had to share underwear at Chicago's federal jail.

Rezko, used to a cushy life in his Wilmette mansion, had been locked in solitary confinement 23 hours a day in the downtown Metropolitan Correctional Center. His attorneys called conditions at the high-rise jail "disgusting" and said Rezko never got to breathe fresh air.

So now that word has circulated that Rezko is considering cooperating in the federal probe of corruption in state government, all that has changed, right? Clean linen, better magazines, an extra scoop of ice cream after dinner?

Nope.

If he values his life, being locked up was probably his best bet. At he same he wasn't able to sing like a jay bird which could have derailed the coronation of Bambi

Betcha Barry made him some serious promises if he’ll remain mute on these issues. A la Susan MacDougal. What happened to her after her release?

And Rezko will have a "heart attack" anyway.

To whom? Fitzpatrick will get fired when O takes over unless Leo’s case at SCOTUS prevails.

How long is his sentence? Is this a temporary holding pen until he goes to prison, or is he sentenced for less than a year?

I haven’t seen much evidence of long FR memories from which I have learned much regarding Fitzgerald. He was one of the Democrats G.W. Bush left in place, unlike Clinton, who
replaced all US Attorneys immediately upon taking office.

Fitzgerald knew almost immediately that Armitage was the leaker in the Plame affair, and, perhaps colluding with Bush enemies in CIA or ... prosecuted the Libby witch hunt, never proving any point in the indictment. As soon as I saw the name Patrick Fitzgerald I was confident the case was buried. I have been surprised to see “Rezko will talk” pop up again and again.

Rezko is too much involved in siphoning money aimed at Chicago housing to be walking the streets. He will quietly disappear, and when he pops up running a real estate operation in Florida the media will ignore it. He and Obama rolled the black community and the Jackson’s, Sharptons, Rangel’s, and Percy Sutton’s know it.

There is every reason to expect the Chicago politician, Fitzgerald, to protect Obama and the Chicago machine. Memories are short. I won’t be surprised to see Fitzgerald, that solid “Pitbull” of justtice, in a more powerful position, perhaps a US Judge, under Obama.
The question we will probably never have answered is “What do the Dems have on G.W. that has allowed them to have their way with what seemed like a principled man?”

Actually Fitzgerald was appointed by Bush upon the recommendation of Senator Peter Fitzgerald. Fitz the prosecutor has been pretty even handed about going after the crooks in both parties.

His sentencing hearing was delayed when he started singing... Blagojevich, Giannoulias family, and Obama. But so far they are all still free, so not sure what’s going on. LOL

What do you make of it?

Sounds to me like he is just on ice until Obama takes office and pardons him.
