The zoopolitical realm has never been so crowded. Leftists, liberating themselves from the center-feigning overtures of the past and promoting, now without shame, the ideas that made Europe what it is, have never been more proud to call themselves Democrats or more willing to exercise the obstinate defiance so characteristic of their mascot. After all, the Democrats now possess the Office of the President Elect, the Senate, the House, the public schools, the universities, the mainstream media, more than a few ardent activist judges, PBS, and, most importantly, the holy grail of Democratic politics the adoration, endorsement, and promised fraternity of virtually every socialist, non-democratic, and totalitarian nation in the global village. The world, it seems, is quite literally theirs to lose.
On the other hand, less fanciful Democrats, who understand all to well that their party passed on a qualified candidate with actual experience in favor of one banking on his magical, almost iconic, charisma, lick their wounded PUMA paws and wonder what the remnants of their party will do when the realities of governance overpower the effervescent glamour of a well-played campaign drama. They fear, if quietly, that their party has over-played its hand and will indeed lose the world in due course.
And then there are the rarest creatures of them all, those elusive phantoms, the genuine Republican elephants, who stare incredulously into the hollow eyes of the great grey beasts that have overtaken their party and ask hey, who invited the RINOs, and where did they get those fake trunks? It seems that only now the true conservative Republicans are beginning to realize that while they slept, they lost their souls. Indeed, they can scarcely call themselves conservative anymore, because there is very little left to conserve.

I think this has it backwards. The so-called RINOs, the country club moderates, owned the GOP long before the conservatives showed them how to win elections. We conservatives are the interlopers, and viewed as such by the old guard. I don’t see much of a future for us in the GOP, and I don’t see much of a future for the GOP without us conservatives. The old guard has successfully excluded us, and hates us so much, that they have been willing to lose elections as the price of getting rid of us.
We need to explore other options, none of which will be easy, but, I have come to realize, we sold our souls when we used the GOP as our vehicle, and the GOP took our votes, and then raided the public purse.
Be sure that we will not be taking over the Republican Party. The party regulars are well versed in the mud wrestling that is politics, and while they may lose elections, and remain in the minority, they will use every trick imaginable, and some we haven’t thought of, to keep us out of the party leadership. Look what they have done to Governor Palin.
The GOP is back to where it was in the 1960’s and 1970’s, and there is where it will stay until they whither away like the Whigs in the 1850’s, and British Liberal Party at the turn of the 20th century. They will now be on their guard against us. They do not want to be saved by us again.
one trick was to take a country clubber RINO and try to get conservatives to vote for him. He was pretty successful. He almost won the primary.
After FDR, all that was left of the GOP were the moderates who were a decent loyal opposition in pretty much permanent minority.
Then the conservative democrats bolted the party to form a temporary republican majority.
The current conservatives are the ones who hate the moderates and the moderates are on the verge of bolting to the democrats as a result.
Example: I supported Heather Wilson over conservative Steve Pearce in the New Mexico primary. Pearce won. I was not going to donate to Pearce until the RNSC arranged a meeting at the RNC convention in MN where Domenici stood up and said, "I supported Wilson, but now we need to rally around Pearce" and Romney showed up and said the same thing.
I coughed up some money for Pearce just because Domenici and Romney said so even though I don't like Pearce at all.
And if the conservtive movement continues their bashing of moderates, the moderates may leave and go to the democrats.
BOTTOM LINE: the conservatives and moderates can form a majority, but either one alone is doomed to permanent minority status.
Question: when are you moderates going to quit bashing conservatives? this works two ways. If we reach across the aisle, you have to reach back, or we go off on our own, and the GOP whithers for lack of a purpose.
What is the purpose, the mission, of the GOP, BTW?
no, we still have our souls. just lost our party. the RINO flu spread like an epidemic, led by sellouts like O'Reilley, Noonan, Frum, Brooks, Buckley, Savage, etc etc etc.
check out post 6 and see exactly who is bashing who.
So, we’re bashing each other. I’ve been hearing party regulars bashing conservatives for years. Yet, you have not won a national election when a conservative did not top the ticket since 1976, and you have not lost a national election when the top of the ticket was running convincingly as a conservative. (Although the Bush’s betrayed conservatives once they were elected.)
If the GOP doesn’t want conservatism, you can forget about getting conservative votes, and you have only yourselves to blame for your losses. Don’t blame conservatives for staying home when the top of your ticket, and the party regulars insist on insulting us. We do not enjoy pain, and we won’t take it. If you want our votes, reduce government, and increase liberty. If you won’t do that, and you haven’t, don’t expect our votes. You are not entitled to them.
