WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President-elect Barack Obama's top choice to lead the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano, CNN reported on Wednesday, citing multiple sources.

The Democratic governor, a supporter and campaigner for Obama's presidential campaign, had been reported to be on a short list of people to fill cabinet posts in the new administration.

CNN also reported that Chicago businesswoman Penny Pritzker was Obama's pick for commerce secretary.

Sigh,

Was this the deal that was made with McCain by Obama: John, play ball and we won't attack your Senate seat in 2010? Does the GOP have a candidate lined up for AZ Gov to run in 2010?

Doesn’t Pritzker have some banking issues? Can we win the AZ Gov office?

Whoa, the Sec of DHS, who overseas border security, is going to be a amnesty-open-border type. It keeps getting better.

What does she possibly know about Homeland Security?

I want someone that knows the intelligence apparatus of this country and can spot a bad guy rather than a generous donor to the party.

Hopefully Sherrif Joe Arpaio will run for governor of Arizona. That will change the immigration debate as we know it. No more Mr. Nice Guy.

I wasn’t counting on all that CHANGE O talked about, taking us back to the 90’s. With all the branch Clintonians and partisan Democrats in Obamas bi-partisan government, which was was supposed to change the way Washington works, sure looks phony.

America cannot afford to look back to the 90’s. Thats change we can’t count on.

Don't we get an election as soon as Nappy jumps to DC??? Hell, I'd take the job for a year or two. Sherrif Joe and I could clean house and still have plenty of time for a quick 18.

I didn’t realize he was so old though.

The only other Republican I know by name (outside Kyl and McCain) is JD Hayworth.

Isn’t there a county or GOP chairman that gets into it with McCain (I forget his name), what about them?

I was thinking Sheriff Joe for Homeland Security!

Maybe in the Jindal/Palin administration. Assuming we still HAVE a homeland in 2012.

I was thinking Sheriff Joe for Homeland Security!

In a sane world, that choice would be a slam-dunk!

Yes, he's a Republican, tenacious about enforcing the law, and...crazy as a loon on LSD.

I love him as my sheriff and will vote for him there as long as he runs, but I don't think I want him anywhere NEAR the governor's office.

As an Arizonan, this is the worst choice for our country. Our governor is horrible.

If she stayed on as Governor for two more years she couldn't attack McCain's Senate Seat. The State's finances are a disaster, and the Republican's in the Legislature who helped her get her budgets passed are gone, and the Republicans have a larger majority, so she can't continue her big spending ways. Her only hope is to get out of Arizona, and let someone else take the fall for her actions.

The Secretary of State, first in the line of succession is a rock solid conservative.
