TORONTO -- A Scarborough man is lucky to be alive after the airbags in his pickup truck spontaneously deployed yesterday.
Fortunately, Thomas Hong wasn't driving his GMC Sierra 1500 when they inflated.

They’re designed to do that one day after the warranty expires.
It’s surely not the first time this has happened.
My pickup truck is old and doesn’t have airbags. Whenever I drive an airbag equipped vehicle, it’s something I think about.
I have often questioned the wisdom of placing
electrically connected explosive devices in automobiles.
True but like the article says if they deploy and then an accident ensues they assume they deployed on impact but its hard to argue that if the thing was sitting in the driveway.

I waved her to turn right into a parking lot.
I got her hood open but the smoke was coming from her firewall.
The police and firetruck arrived shortly and got the fire stopped.
Her passenger side airbag had caught fire and only deployed a tiny bit.
This could easily be prevented with 25 billion dollars!
