SAN FRANCISCO -- Bay Area air quality officials issued the first Spare the Air alert of the winter season today, making it illegal to burn wood, pellets or manufactured fire logs around the region.
The Bay Area Air Quality Management District passed a regulation in July banning wood and fire log burning on winter days when weather conditions could lead to poor air quality.

They prefer brushfires, no doubt.
I guess it’s a good thing that their massive wildfires always happen during the summer. Oh wait...
How could they tell ?
F*’em ..
Nanny State
Can’t wait to see this one come to New England.
or here in MN. some bureacrat would accidentally fall into a wood chipper.
mother nature refused to comply
Yeah, try to enforce that one here. Even the bluest blue staters here in CT would be sputtering mad.
It’s -10 today. -25 in certain areas. Wood-burning is restricted.
Ha! For the last month+ Central AZ dept of Forestry has had one prescribed forest burn after another. IF they tried to stop our fireplaces here... well, this is the old West :)
Burn newspapers instead.
There I go again.... squelching the first amendment...*sigh*.
Very soon every day will be a day where ‘air quality would be bad’ if wood burning was allowed.
Wood stove fuel pellets hardly give off any bad smoke. They’re made specifically to not be smoke-producing. It’s a recycled product turning waste sawdust into a useful energy source. I always wonder why they lump wood pellet stoves in this category.
Then again, what is science and technology to stand against liberal ignorance? If the science and reality of something doesn’t fit the preconceived agenda, if you’re a lib, you ignore it.
No, nobody’s reading them anymore. Half of the ones sold are lining birdcages anyway.
There aren’t many left to burn.
Burn busybody nanny state bureaucrats instead then.
Will nobody have the common sense to point out that all the woodburning stoves and fireplaces in California all burning at the same time would put less smoke into the atmosphere than one naturally occurring wildfire?
God help us.
I can see one use of the proposed ‘Obamacorps’ is to be greenweenie neighborhood monitors checking out smoking chimneys.
