Because in California Supreme Court Justices are not appointed as they are under the federal constitution, but elected, they are subject to recall by the electorate, and rightly so.
The constitutional framers made the manner of recall very simple. The recall process has two parts. Both of these parts are stated plainly in Article 2 Section 14a. The first is:
"Recall of a state officer is initiated by delivering to the Secretary of State a petition alleging reason for recall. Sufficiency of reason is not reviewable."
The petition to remove these elected officials is not "reviewable." That means that the voters could say, "We the people of California petition for the removal of these four Supreme Court Justices because they are dumb dumb heads, and we don't like them any more." Such a claim could not be rejected on legal grounds; however, such simplicity might not be considered overly persuasive either. Nonetheless, the point is that the California Constitution makes this matter simple because its intent is that the people of California, not its lawyers or its judges, define the nature and scope of our laws.
Those who choose to circulate a petition to recall each of these four judges might contemplate a petition that says:
"We the people of California, petition for the recall of Chief Justice Ronald M. George, Associate Justice Joyce L. Kennard, Associate Justice Kathryn M. Werdegar, and Associate Justice Carlos R. Moreno for the following reasons:

It’s possible that the Californian citizenry will have to resort to this.
Truthfully, most of these ‘justices’ feel so insulated and bullet-proof that they are comfortable to continue doing whatever the hell they want. There’s never any meaningful ramifications, other than some temporary talk radio scrutiny with no follow-through. So frankly, and I’m sorry for offending all of the wusses among us, but the most efficient and effective way to make a significant impact on their collective behavior is for a couple of them to turn up missing.
If I lived in CA I’d be tempted to do that petition.
Outstanding idea!
Do you live in California?
I ask because we had a group like this, led by a radical lefty by the name of Rose Bird. She and two of her fellow travelers were voted off the Court by overwhelming margins in 1986.
It could happen again.
It's not a question we might, but we must. The justices have cost taxpayers millions just to be determined that the voters still remain the same. This attempt by these justices was wrong and should have never been their right to question. They are liberal judges with an attempt to rule from the bench..
If memory serves, Rose, Cruz, and whatshisname lost retention elections, they weren’t recalled.
You’re correct, but it’s the same principle. A recall would be more complicated, but very feasible.
I do live in California and this place is long gone. In the days of Rose Bird, we still had a nucleus/majority of reasonable Americans living here. Now, the corruption runs deeper than a 3rd World country and our populace is now more 3rd World than American. So thinking we can simply ‘work through the system’ and ‘change some people’s minds’ and all that bs won’t work anymore. The court system in this state is unbelievably corrupt, and once the law can’t be trusted, the people will resort to remedies outside the law. And we’re close.

Free Republic is just like talk radio, we all know what’s going on, we all know how corrupt the left is, and how badly they impact this country. But all we do is complain about it amongst ourselves, there is never an action step. And the left knows this, they feel they are above ramifications. Until our side is ready to deal out some serious ramifications, we’ll lose more and more of the country until there is little left to salvage, realistically.
It’s one of those ‘small world’ things, because Rose had no judicial experience prior to being appointed. The guy who put her on the court, our beloved Governor Moonbeam, is the same guy who now has the obligation to defend Prop. 8. Look for the weakest defense in the history of jurisprudence.
These three got the public’s “bird” recall message.
Time to do it again.
There ya go.
Thanks, I can never remember that third guy either. Boy, was I proud to be a Californian back then!
I say go for it. We got rid of Gray Davis, we can get rid of these judges.
Unfortunately, it got hijacked by a ridiculous RINO!!!
Who's gonna hijack the next one, hmmmmmmmmmmm???
