My son, an Army PFC in the 4th ID, graduated from that very school this past summer. We’re a proud 68W family!
My daughter completed 91W training (91W became 68W) in April 2004. She recently completed Nursing ROTC training, and is now an RN (and 2LT). She reported that combat medic training was very interesting training and it helped confirm her desire to become a Nurse. (She is Army Reserve.)
The Army has done GREAT things in ensuring our troops have a good chance of surviving many bad things. I have a son who is with 82nd Airborne; his initial boot camp training as an Infantry soldier included lots of casualty response, including basic first aid, giving IVs, etc. So even the small groups out on patrol can do some initial first aid until the combat medic arrives.
My brother was a Corpsman in Desert Storm. He also was in the Grenada mission briefly, though we didn't know that at the time of course. I still have a newspaper clipping of his bunker with the little Christmas tree we sent him. We were all very proud of him.
