Some have said that government employees may even someday do citizens the favor of personally delivering their guns and ammo to them. Maybe so, maybe no, but the DOD sure has worked side by side with the Civilian Marksmanship Program to put surplus battle rifles in the hands of qualified (one might even say "regulated") civilians, who then organize and help other civilians qualify to purchase said firearms. This, despite knowing that there are political elements in this country who want that cooperation to stop.

Unfortunately, the CMP is largely out of anything worth putting in citizens' hands. The M1s are pretty much sold out (save for the occasional bulk purchase from another country), the surplus bolt-actions are gone, and whatever remains is pretty much either decrepit, collectible, or oddity. The effort by DOD/DCM/CMP is appreciated, but of waning value. Of special note, they will never sell M16s/M4s, and most likely never any AR15s, much less any other modern armament. Those who want it to end are succeeding thru attrition - a model which will surely be applied to the populace at large.
