What do bleeding Detroit auto makers, Colombia and green groups have in common? Not a lot, unless you are Nancy Pelosi.
If there was a moment that highlights to what extent the Democratic Party has become captive to its special interests, this might be it. Mrs. Pelosi and Harry Reid have spent this week demanding that Washington stave off a car-maker collapse. What makes this a little weird is that Mrs. Pelosi and Mr. Reid are Washington. If they so desperately want a Detroit bailout they could always, you know, pass one.
Instead, having punted the Detroit question in the past, and having failed to offload it on the Bush administration, Mrs. Pelosi is now stuck dealing with it in the middle of a lame-duck session that is tangled in Colombia trade politics. Detroit's demands are meanwhile pressing in a postelection environment where Big Labor and greens are presenting their own bills for political services rendered. If you're wondering why Mrs. Pelosi hasn't yet decided what will happen when Congress returns, it's because she hasn't decided which group to annoy.

I think it is a little more than annoy with the UAW thugs!!!!
Yawn...the left has the Presidency, the House, the Senate, the entire political press, Hollywood, Madison Ave, and Academia.
They ALL will get what they want.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
This is beautiful in a way. Now that Bush is gone, there is NOTHING holding the dem party together. The next four years will be a nasty battle of competing interests, a political cross-fire for the dems.
Well . . . but . . . aren't the auto maker really financial institutions (i.e., their credit companies)?
“...having failed to offload it on the Bush administration, Mrs. Pelosi is now stuck dealing with it “
This will be one of the most grimly satisfying things to observe in the next 2-4 years, in Stretch and Dingy’s greatly expanded democrat club formerly known as the US Congress.
So few republicans to deride and blame for bad policy, ineptitude, unpopular outcomes of poor governance.
So many overdue extremist political favors to pay at taxpayer expense...
Expectations will be running high, and disappointments will not be taken sitting down. The thugs and rabble will have come for their payoffs and will not go quietly empty handed.

I like your thinking! So true.
Ain't that the truth.
For the 1st time in weeks, I actually have a smile on my face in pure glee over Botox, San Fran Nan's dilema.
You go girl.....er mam.......ah, old hag!!!

No, the gays haven’t gotten what they wanted yet unless the courts give them what they seek. They counted on this alliance to crown the Emperor and it backfired on them. So there is a crack in alliance here.
My $$ is that she’ll sell the auto companies and unions down the river after making a very public (and fake) attempt to save them. Later, she’ll claim she did all she could....

> The big American companies employ about 240,000 workers, and their suppliers an additional 2.3 million, amounting to nearly 2 percent of the nation’s work force. The outright failure of General Motors would eliminate the biggest auto employer and more than 100,000 manufacturing jobs.
If they fail, let them
