The city has come up with a plan to help you shake your salt habit, according to New York magazine.

In a closed-door gathering at Gracie Mansion late last month, health experts and food-industry representatives were told about Mayor Bloomberg's next crusade - an effort to reduce the salt in processed food by 20 percent over the next five years, the magazine reports in this week's issue.

Salt is in many (not all) foods at a certain level for a REASON. It is a preservative.

Also, they put iodine in salt for a reason: thyroid deficiency (if I have the term right) used to be a big problem. I don't know when it was -- 30s or 40s maybe? But you can still buy un-iodized salt if that's your preference . . .

I wonder how the pro smoking ban freepers feel now..

I was never for smoking bans (should be the property owner's decision), but I do have to observe that I've never had a problem with rude salt users who insist on throwing salt on everyone's plate, or tossing their empty salt packets out their car windows. Not once have I found an empty Morton's Salt container littering the sidewalk.

By not having the same consideration for others in public areas that should be given with voice level, music volume, etc. smokers didn't do much to draw sympathy.

"At a wedding last night, 90% of the attendees were seriously overweight, if not obese. What’s it going to take to get this country in better physical shape?"

Personal responsibility? Self-respect?

How long before they declare the city a “gluttony-free zone?”

Surely there must be a place in the BO administration for a man with these talents.
