Good old-fashioned communism, once discredited, is now finding new adherents among those too young to remember the fall of the Berlin Wall.

. . . In Japan, for instance, economic stagnation, depressed wages, and a workforce that is 44 percent part-time only has created fertile ground for the Japanese Communist Party (JCP), now the nations fourth largest political party. Treating this at Telegraph.co.uk, Danielle Demetriou writes:
New recruits [for the JCP] are signing up at the rate of 1,000 a month, swelling its ranks to more than 415,000. Meanwhile a classic proletarian novel is at the top of the best-seller lists, and communist-themed manga comics [200,000 copies sold a year] are enjoying soaring success.

In Germany, Karl Marxs economic treatise Das Kapital is experiencing a similar resurgence, sadly, selling like beer during Oktoberfest. Writing in TimesOnline.co.uk, Roger Boyes reports:
Marx is fashionable again, . . .
We have a new generation of readers who are rattled by the financial crisis and have to recognise that neo-liberalism has turned out to be a false dream, said Mr Schütrumpf.

And given how weve thoroughly failed to inculcate the young with Truth, its sometimes their only teacher. After all, what passes for education nowadays? Schools have become leftist propaganda mills, replete with teachers and professors who are closet Marxists and some who are even a tad more honest. Barack Obama ally Bill Ayers, for instance, calls himself a small c communist, . . .
Working in concert with academia to bend reality is the media. Populated by the formers fellow travelers, it does its utmost to portray our market as free, when its not, and every economic failure such as the current crisis as a defect of it. For example, economist Walter Williams wrote recently:

Gee....like we didn’t know...since a Marxist is soon to be in the WH
Since Obama is also (as Bill Ayers says) a communist with a little “c,” some folks claim it’s alarmist to point out the nature of his political philosophy.
Not me.
I heard Glenn Beck on O’Reilly last night. They both agreed it is scary the lack of moral outrage that exists out here. I felt the same way when Clinton was elected.
LOL! Let the Communists try to get their way. Less competition for me. LOL!
Amazing the United States would lead to the rebirth of Communism...Oh well...If some things have to be done right...
Anyone who thinks that Communism was “dead,” in any sense, needs to have his or her head examined.
Nikita Khrushchev:
“We will bury you without firing a shot.”
Communism will exist as long as losers exist.
Those Bircher ‘nutcases’ have tried to warn us for 50 years. Has anyone listened? So has the late Jean-Francois Revel and the refugees from the various marxist-leninist paradises. Gus Hall should have stayed around to celebrate. It’s paid off at last.
Thomas Jefferson never heard of “communism” since it was almost one hundred years later that it was defined.
It resurges every 30-40 years, as the next generation comes up and is attracted to the utopian idea and is far removed from the truth of the brutal past.
Oh, we’re meetin’ at the courthouse at eight o’clock tonight
You just walk in the door and take the first turn to the right
Be careful when you get there, we hate to be bereft
But we’re taking down the names of everybody turning left
Oh, we’re the John Birch Society, the John Birch Society
Here to save our country from a communistic plot
Join the John Birch Society, help us fill the ranks
To get this movement started we need lots of tools and cranks
Now there’s no one that we’re certain the Kremlin doesn’t touch
We think that Westbrook Pegler doth protest a bit too much
We only hail the hero from whom we got our name
We’re not sure what he did but he’s our hero just the same
Oh, we’re the John Birch Society, the John Birch Society
Socialism is the ism dismalest of all
Join the John Birch Society, there’s so much to do
Have you heard they’re serving vodka at the WCTU?
Well you’ve heard about the agents that we’ve already named
Well MPA has agents that are flauntedly unashamed
We’re after Rosie Clooney, we’ve gotten Pinkie Lee
And the day we get Red Skelton won’t that be a victory
Oh we’re the John Birch Society, the John Birch Society
Norman Vincent Peale may think he’s kidding us along
But the John Birch Society knows he spilled the beans
He keeps on preaching brotherhood, but we know what he means
We’ll teach you how to spot ‘em in the cities or the sticks
For even Jasper Junction is just full of Bolsheviks
The CIA’s subversive and so’s the FCC
There’s no one left but thee and we, and we’re not sure of thee
Oh, we’re the John Birch Society, the John Birch Society
Here to save our country from a communistic plot
Join the John Birch Society holding off the Reds
We’ll use our hand and hearts and if we must we’ll use our heads
Do you want Justice Warren for your Commissar?
Do you want Mrs. Krushchev in there with the DAR?
You cannot trust your neighbor or even next of kin
If mommie is a commie then you gotta turn her in
Oh, we’re the John Birch Society, the John Birch Society
Fighting for the right to fight the right fight for the Right
Join the John Birch Society as we’re marching on
And we’ll all be glad to see you when we’re meeting in the John
The John, the John Birch So- ci- i- teee
Even a broken clock is right twice a day!
Like a t-shirt I saw recently: “Communism only killed 100 million people. Let’s give it another chance!”
Sigh.
I guess it’s because, while it’s basic human nature to be selfish and wish for a life with no hardships or requirements, the other side of that is the tendency to believe that utopia is achievable.
Come to think of it, those really are the same thing, aren’t they?
