We do have a fireplace. For the phone thing, I did reduce my cell minutes when I discovered I wasn’t using them all.

We have a landline phone w/unlimited long distance bundled w/our TV and Internet, and it’s cheaper to keep all three than two of three, so we leave it alone.

I won't give up my cell phone but would be happy to get rid of the landline. Like you I have a cable/internet/telephone bundle and found if I ditch the landline I will pay more for the cable and internet than I do for all three. I'm going to see if it is any cheaper to drop the landline and go with satellite for the tv and internet.

I love to read and could easily spend a fortune on books. I have an exchange account at a local second hand book store and get most of my books at half price or less.

It goes without saying you can save a significant amount of money annually if you brown bag breakfast, coffee and lunch. I tend to eat much healthier if I bring my own.

Re: landline phone and reduced cell minutes: that’s exactly what we did. Families do what suits each individual family’s situation.
