i was hoping to find new tips... we already do most of these on a regular basis...
Live on the edge...open it....just watch out if you are wearing hairspray....
Bunk Beds. Saved on bedding and diapers too. All was needed was a drip pan...
And just cause my undies have someone else’s name in ‘em,(Victoria’s...) don’t mean NOTHIN’, just being thrifty. :-)
Does that mean you are on team open oven door?
My kids like those better when made with M&M’s.
Of course, M&M’s are more expensive......
Put in a wood-burning stove and get a job at a cabinet shop. All the free firewood you can stand...Heyyyy...
My wife makes bread and rolls from scratch a couple times a month. Nothing better. Don’t ask her for the recipe. She doesn’t use one. She just does it “until it looks and feels right”.
Fifty isn’t cold. It was in the 50’s today and it sure was nice to be able to run outside for something with nothing warmer needed than a sweatshirt.
One of the younger mm’s is in college nearby and laughing about all the out-of-staters who are wearing winter coats when it hits 50 and wondering how he can still be wearing shorts.
No argument from me there. It hurts too much once it gets below 20.
I don’t agree with automating all your bills, unless you also read them very closely. You could be taken for a lot if you aren’t on the lookout. Mistakes can and will be made.
Here in Houston I almost never see anyone wearing them any more.
Not with a five-finger discount.
I don’t know if burning wood is cheaper, but I sure do like it. Unless you collected it yourself, of course. After Hurricane Ike there was so much wood laying around. All gone now, and I was too stressed at the time (just trying to stay cool) to make myself go around and collect it.
I don’t like the automated pay thing myself. I’ll take the trouble to write the checks. I’m just not comfortable with signing to let anyone help themselves to my checking account whenever they feel like it.
Mr. mm does energy engineering as part of his job and calculated out the most cost effective form of fuel, and it’s wood, hands down.
AH-HA! I thought of one that noone has posted!
Cook meals in a crockpot in the hottest parts of summer. You don’t heat up the kitchen, have great meals, and all the wonderfull smells of a home-cooked meal.
Wonderful post, RKBA.
I’ve not finished reading all of the responses yet, but do expect to learn from the good folks here.
One I’ve not come across yet: Always check the Clearance Section of any store. I’ve bought anything from expensive shampoos to vitamins to toilet paper at a mere fraction of the original cost, and almost always can find a gift on the aisle for any occasion.
Too, I’m one who loves to clean. While vinegar and baking soda do one heck of a job on certain things, the cheapest of washing powder works wonders on such things as cleaning the bath tub, kitchen sink, etc., as it softens “soap scum” better and it’s far easier than “elbow grease”!
I did notice one post regarding the cutting back of meat at every meal. Growing up, we had what we called “vegetable plates” too many times to count and do more so today. Great on the budget and the system.
Thanks again,
BR
You laugh. If we saved money, then it wouldn't be evenly distributed; you'd have more than the next person who squandered it.
That would be almost unpatriotic of you.
No offense girl...but we are a “grill” only zone in the summer. I don’t think I even own a crock pot...I am afraid to leave it plugged in all day....and don’t even ask me about a rice cooker.
And for the “English” challenged...do not buy a can of crisco thinking the picture of the fried chicken label is what you will get inside the can....true story.
I’d bet that you got pinged to this, but don’t have the time to go through the whole thread to find out and don’t want to assume anything.
