A long line of mainline businesses burned as the live embers were blown over a mile into the city proper.

You bet, I am very familiar with that fire.

What people don't understand, is the fire can start in brush far beyond homes etc, and as they are driven by fierce winds, where these fires easily spot thousands of feet in front of the fire lines.

Fires like this, driven by the Santa Ana's have been occurring in So. Cal for hundreds of years, long before it was settled like it is today.

The key is population density. Never before have so many people lived near the fire zones (or earthquake faults, for that matter). Nowadays almost every single flare-up threatens many homes.

The worst part is that none of this sprawl would be necessary if our government had bothered to enforce the immigration laws. Middle class Americans are forced into the foothills as third world trash invades the valleys.

That cannot be so. I just read on FreeRepublic that these fires are the fault of liberal environmentalists.

This time there seem to be MORE locations, than I can ever remember.
