Because if you have any trace of blackness in your ancestry, traditional customs say you are black.
If history were reversed, ironically Obama would be the first white President.

Liberals see Obama as a black, elite-class, male.
Obama see’s himself as black. Reference: His own books.
Blacks see Obama as black. Reference: 95%+ voted for him.
Why do other people keep pointing out his supposed multi-ethnicity? Whose mind do you think you will change?
