Three major American cities buffeted by the global financial crisis are requesting at least $50 billion in federal funds to help pay for infrastructure improvements, pensions and short-term borrowing.
Philadelphia, Phoenix and Atlanta are asking U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson to release funds from the $700 billion financial bailout authorized by Congress last month.
Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter will hand-deliver the request to Paulson on Friday, spokesman Luke Butler said. Five or six other cities, including Chicago, may also sign on, Butler added.

Everybody wants a little bit of the Governments money. That $700 billion isn't going to go very far!

And how come DC, Detroit or L.A. didn’t ask for hand-out, unless they did under our very noses?
To: Moconservative
Most of them were blue cities in the election I presume?

I don’t understand why when the taxpayer’s pensions are sinking, that we should be obliged to bail out government and union pensions...

Leave the cities people. They are, every single one of them, 5 days from riots in the event of the slightest interruption in power, water, or food (and each of these infrastructural components is, believe me, exceptionally fragile). Running out of money to pay the meter maids is just the trip wire.

Not to worry, the treasury will print as much as it takes. /sarc
Little Jimmy Carter started this mess, William Jefferson Clinton added to the mess, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd etc. added even more to the worse legislation every written and Chuck Schumer got the ball rolling with the run on the banks.
In their desire to destroy Geo. W Bush, they have destroyed the economy of the entire country.
Thank the Democrats for this mess.

That’s how the game was designed to work when the that abomination called the Federal Reserve was codified by congres in 1913. The book “The Creature from Jekyll Island” by G. Edward Griffin is worth a read.

Leave the cities people. Please, don't say that. We don't want them, all they do is bring city ideas to the country and ruin it for us.

Don't worry, Obama will just raise taxes on the rich. Then, when he needs more, we'll see DOZENS of stories in the MSM about how in the UK some pay astonomical amounts, and how in the US ages ago we did, too. Then, when Obama asks for "only" 50% from the top, oh, 25% of earners, we'll see "What's the big deal? Selfish!!!!" as the accepted response.
You don't toss the frog in a pot of boiling water--he jumps out. Put him in cold water, and gradually turn up the heat. Before he knows it, he's boiled.

Look, shall we just consider the people in cities who are reading this? I want them to leave. They comprise a ruley mob of, what a few million at most, spread across the USA? We uneducated and non-erudite rubes in the countryside need to get ready to welcome and train our brothers and sisters in the ways of the non-urban. You know, how to tend a garden, and how to load a pump-action shotgun, American stuff. Think of it as an internal American diaspora.

You can take the rude, crude people out of the city, unfortunately it takes more years than I care to spend to take the rude, crude out of the city people.

Fair enough, and I empathize completely. However, they are going to show up. You might as well increase your local work force, because the ugly mobs will be right behind them. You need somebody to help reload, ya know?

Because if the private pensions are aloud to fail, and this includes union pensions, then we face an avalanche of seniors requesting the equivalent in social services from the Government.
I dont think any political party can survive telling Granny to go starve in a ditch somewhere. That means they get it.
We should do whichever is least expensive, because either way this is going to cost us all a fortune.
