(Santa Barbara/ Montecito) UPDATED: All of Mountain Drive Ordered to Evacuate
Sycamore Canyon Fire Estimated at 20 Acres
Though still no official word yet from fire officials, KEYT is now reporting that all of Mountain Drive should evacuate, as of 6:50 p.m.
Chris Meagher reports that he spoke with Gayle Beebe, the president of Westmont. Some structures have caught fire, including the campus chapel. The students on the Westmont campus who have not evacuated yet are seeking refuge in the campus gym, which is made of concrete and is fireproof. The gym contains supplies for up to 1,200 people. According to Beebe, the fire started not war from the Westmont tea garden.
Because the fire may knock out power to neighborhoods around Santa Barbara, residents may want to sign up for the Indy Alert system, which will send text messages with all fire updated to cell phones. Sign up for Indy Alert here.
More to come as it becomes available. Independent.com will update with further evacuations.

Melissa Kelley and D’Lisa Davies are both pretty weak at their jobs...
Fire has jumped 210 freeway......LAFD is out of engines
Now LAPD is telling people to evacuate....
good grief.
2 at Colorado is Eagle Rock.....
They better move some serious Orange County engines north.....
I concur about them being weak. Kelley was talking in crypto-fire-adminspeak to the point where it was clear she doesn’t think for herself. But she should not tell people the official LAFD stance is to shelter in place, no matter what the circumstance.
Ok, Eagle Rock. Have embers from Sylmar traveled or is it too far, and there’s a firefly.
Are you still monitoring this? We were in Van Nuys and heard many sirens between 8-10 pm. I assume it was this Sylmar fire. KCOP is still broadcasting live. Getting smoke now here.
My best friend just left for Burundi for two weeks, and before she left, we’d been discussing the fires, and she was saying she was glad it was cooling off so hopefully her husband wouldn’t be having to deal with anything while she was gone.
That’s right where she lives. Glad she has little internet access, hopefully by the time she hears about it, this’ll be out and a non-event, as much as they can be!
Man...
I was up in OC tonight, couldn’t believe how uncharacteristically warm it was this evening!

Just heard Kern dispatched into LA County for a brush
KCOP is broadcasting live. An LAFD Chief just said in quasi news conference c that Olive View Hospital is affected but that they were sheltering in place with fire fighters in place to assure that Olive View would remain safe.
Looking into camera LAFD Chief said patients are safe "for anyone with friends, relatives who are patients at Olive View Hospital."
Power is now out at Olive View Hospital and now on ermegency generators.
Reporter is now standing live in front about 10 feet from debris fire in Olive View Hospital parking lot. Embers blowing directly at reporter and into trees.
Our wind is 12-15 out of the southeast, which is somewhat weird.
Hey, bd! Well, well. Of course shelter-in-place exists as an option, but the spokesgirl was telling people to do it way back during the 11 o’clock newscast. *I* thought it was very strange. I sure hope people don’t find themselves in dire situations listening to her advice.
They are saying they’re shutting the 210 down now.
