“Another recount coincidink....”

This one isn’t in a recount at this point as I understand it. Its absentee votes that are still being counted.

“Democrats steal another one. Where does it stop?”

Seriously, that seems extremely far fetched. The governor of Alaska is a pretty tough conservative Republican, I heard. The legislature in Alaska is solidly Republican. All regional election supervisors and the absentee and petition manager were chosen and named by Lt. Governor Sean Parnell:

http://www.elections.alaska.gov/hava/spc.pdf

The initial vote count in Alaska looked way too low, given that 2004 had much higher turnout and this year the “favorite daughter” was on the national ticket, so we are now seeing the rest of the votes come in, and unfortunately much of it was from Anchorage, where Begich was a very popular mayor. I say unfortunate, because it looks like another Senate seat is biting the dust for us, not because of Stevens who is an absolute scumbag and deserved to lose. I guess overall the people of Alaska could not see past the 7 felony convictions and the stench of corruption.

Where does it stop?

IMO, it will never stop until people who perpetrate election fraud are regularly caught and serve serious jail time (I'm thinking 20 yrs. or more).

In many locations, volunteer workers either can't or won't self-police. I believe FBI "sting" operations are called for.

It stops when no Republican can get close enough for a recount to be necessary.

Everybody involved in the recount/absentee counting is Republican or has been appointed by the Republican governor’s office. Are we going to be charging collusion and voter fraud to the governor’s office of SARAH PALIN of all people? FBI sting operations raiding Alaska? Geez.

Too early to call without know where the rest of the votes are coming from.

When Republicans start fighting back, or the lead starts flying! The RATS are evil to the core, and will not stop until they are stopped. To be honest, I'm surpised that Stevens even has any votes after his felony convictions. People truly don't care about the character of politicians, and that is the reason we are in the mess we're in.

If present trends hold, Stevens loses, but it looks like Don Young holds.

Jefferson won because the people in his district, like the people in Alaska voted for a criminal.

I think the people in Alaska voted for a new election. Leaders from both parties announced before the election that Stevens would be expelled.

“If present trends hold, Stevens loses, but it looks like Don Young holds.”

Probably for the better.

I REALLY don’t want to see the high-profile spectacle of Ted Stevens, the longest-serving Republican in the Senate, being booted out of the Senate for corruption, and all the embarassing news that generates for the party. They may still go after him in the few weeks he has remaining (should he lose this,) but there will be a lot less riding on it, it will be less newsworthy, if he is already in a lame-duck. Also, this way we can say that we clean house when we find corruption, unlike the Dems (see Jefferson, Louisiana.)

A clean start requires getting rid of corruption. This pains because it is a Senate seat that may be gone for a while, given Begich’s overall popularity in the state, but Stevens messed up royally and voters don’t usually take lightly to that.

The same could be said for the people of the LA 2nd.

They think Jefferson will be expelled and will be a new election.

I don’t know. I’ve heard some talk that Stevens would have simply stepped aside had he won. Then again, an expulsion attempt would not have been clear cut since Stevens enjoyed some support from old bulls, like Inouye.

The filibuster may come down to Georgia.
