Historically “Britons” were celts.

Scots, Welsh, Manx, should embrace the term British, Briton, Britain, and claim it as their own. It is their own. The saxon British are merely adopted kin; the celts are the real and original Brits.

I hate to break this to you but I have a friend in advertising working on the BofA /take over of Country Wide and they are not allowed to use the term Americans in their adds it is considered racist...yes RACIST, its crazy but true

The sun set on the British Empire long ago. It was replaced with the Commonwealth as we moved our priorities to trading with friendly nations, instead of occupying them.
