"I am proud to be the commander in chief of people who are so selfless and so courageous that they would volunteer to serve our country in a time of war," he said. "I'm proud when I see people feed the hungry. I'm proud when I'm in Africa and see volunteers helping those citizens dying of HIV/AIDS."
"I remember the conversation I had with my predecessor Bill Clinton," Bush said. As a matter of fact, [I] called him yesterday and said, 'Bill, I'm getting ready to meet with the new president, and I remember how gracious you were to me. I hope I can be as gracious to President-elect Obama as you were to me.' ''

I admire him for this trait of his, yet I loathe it at the same time. They stomped him into the ground while he clinged to the failed new tone idea.
I’m betting Obama does nothing but blame Bush for everything the next four years, he won’t reciprocate.
LOL! Welcome to Free Republic.
The only criteria for POTUS is success or failure. He failed the conservative movement, he failed the republican party, and he failed this country by setting it up to endure BO.
And this humility crap is for men without principle. The way Adams treated Jefferson, the way Hoover treated FDR, and the way Ike treated Truman reflects on their seriousness as men who believed in something beyond just being civil and just getting along.
In the final analysis GWB is not a serious man. He is not a tough man. He believes in nothing but making nice. Good riddance.
“George W. Bush was a class act till the end, A man of profound thought and humility, and a Christian that we can all admire and aspire to emulate.”
I suspect that Bush is going to look like a saint to some in about 6 months
Is that what you call it? I call it Dupitude.
Ya, the ONLY thing he did is prevent (against all odds) another 3,000 of your fellow cit zens from being mercilessly incinerated on American soil by demon possessed Islamic terrorists.
THAT'S THE ONLY THING.
You seem to be interjecting yourself into this exchange. So, how many "traitors" are there in America that don't deserve protection under the Consttitution?
ALL citizens deserve to be protected under the Constitution, even traitors.
And those traitors deserve to be executed, under the same Constitution.
that doesnt mean squat in my book.
are we to take it on faith? ;-(
i ask them to contribute $100 in good faith to FR as new members if they are so supportive of this forum.....
Duh, Cedric. I suggest you read the previous postings.
I did.
Clarify your point, please.
Maybe he's a great Christian, but I didn't vote for him for that particular title.
It was not my contention that traitors did not warrant protection under the Constitution. I was responding to several people who held that belief.
Our troops deserve better.
And about that Wanted Dead or Alive comment. The first public criticism came from Laura Bush if I am not mistaken.
Surrounded by wussies has taken it’s toll on our President.
He should have spent more time around his mom!
Oh yeah. Well make a list....I would love to see what you regret. Regret you are living in a free country, making a good living, probably, etc.
so many knives in this man's back
beginning with Algore's obstruction, Jumping Jim Jefford's betrayal, McCain.
with a majority of Dims in the senate.
l subject of countless, incessant libels and slanders from the media
He nevertheless restored the economy to reasonable principals (fault the Dim congress for the current collapse) and took the war on terror to the enemy. He restored America's prestige and made the world safe again.
So he didn't do everything you wanted? He chose his battles and did all he could.
