I can see why. A lot of ppl e-mail, do bills online, and don't bother sending Christmas cards out anymore (ha ha).

If it was not for the Government and teachers unions, unions would be finished.

Cutting only the non-union jobs.

It was to my surprise that, about 10 years ago, my regular carrier had a "supervisor" walking with him on his route one day, jotting notes on a clipboard. When I asked him the next day what was going on, he told me that they were measuring the size of routes to see if they could consolidate them to save money.

Now one might think that would be prudent. But one might also consider that they homes in that neighborhood had been there for some 40 years, and the route had been unchanged probably for about the same amount of time. I would expect that today's carrier would be able to carry about the same distance as the carrier of 40 years ago.

It would be my wish that such "supervisors" would be among the 40,000 to go, providing that they are actually going to let people go. But I'm certain that the postal service won't follow that logic and will instead make moves to overburden the carriers in the public eye while letting the lazy bums in the main facilities as well as these "supervisors" go untouched.

The Postal Service has messed up my mail way too many times. I pay as many bills on line as I can now, thus limiting my monetary contribution to this government monopoly.
