I have been wondering for years why DHL is bothering with the US market anymore. They are being squeezed out, little by little, by FedEx and UPS. They should have cut their losses a long time ago.

Their few remaining customers will throw out the DHL order pad and and get a new UPS order pad and will not miss a beat.

True. This news, while bad for DHL, is really just another example of the Invisible Hand at work. Not a doom'N'gloomer at all. It had to happen.

My company uses DHL and their service is marginal at best. They lose things frequently, or they’re damaged in transit.

FedEx rarely if ever a problem.

Except, of course, for the dramatic increase in shipping cost. This will have to be absorbed, or passed on to the customer, either way not good for long term business.

Three weeks back I talked to two DHL pilots who knew this was coming. I overheard them discussing looking for new jobs. They said DHL’s domestic operations were very poorly managed and could not compete with UPS and FedEx.
