Atlas Shrugged is as much of a history book (FDR and the New Deal) as it is a prophetic warning (again).
Thanks for the ping!
Galts Gulch is an allegory that was created with the futuristic visions from the Fifties. In my opinion, there have been many advances in technology and the sciences that Ayn could not have predicted. Imagine if the internet and the freedom to exchange ideas in an instant across the globe had been factored in! To answer your question though, I suggest a virtual Galts Gulch due to the fact that it can only come about by conscious actions, using our ability to apply modern technologies to improve our own lives. Galts Gulch is not a destinastion, it is here now, in you, you need to allow the concept to direct your decisions in every day life.
Allow me to ask a question - how many times have you read “Atlas Shrugged”? I’ve read it about 6 times and plan to read it again in the near future. I’ve also read just about everything Ayn Rand ever wrote at least once. I think I’m pretty familiar with what Galt’s Gulch is. I also have a pretty good understanding of rhetorical questions.
I hope the Ayn Rand Institute had or has someone on set to make sure it’s true to the book.
OK Shruggers here’s a question for you: Do we accept a stimulus check from Chancellor Obamarx? Do we take a bribe from the “Looters”?
Dagny, the courageous federal employee fighting against the corrupt steel tycoon who is planning to destroy half the country in order to make an obscene fortune rebuilding it. Is that the "Atlas Shrugged" Jolie will star in? Kind of an Erin Brockovitch with trains and green steel.
I'm in Alabama. Been there, done that, still got the scars.
Isn’t it ironic that Ayn Rand was Russian?
ping.
Unfortunately the libs now control the big guns.
It will take an event or series of events that rattle conservatives down to their core which is likely to happen in the next 2 years.
I've read it once. I enjoyed it so much that I'll reread it several times yet. As you know, it is a time consuming endeavor. When I read it, I was struck by the similarities of her observations to my own.

I apologize if I offended by answering your question about Galts Gulch, but I did see the question mark and though I didn't intend to be too literal, I've heard that question go unanswered all too often lately. I did not mean to sound like I was lecturing or correcting you. I am aware that this is a very public forum and that the answer would be viewed by many others who may be wondering the same. I stand by my answer and again apologize if my use of your question to try and contribute to the thread somehow offended.
Actually, they don't take control of them until January 20, but that's just a nit. The reality is that regardless of whether they control the big guns or not, the question remains if they would actually use them, or try to force the military to use them against their own people? IMO, the "surrender-at-any-cost" Dems would go squishy if it came to that.
That leads us, then, to the bigger issue. Conservatives tend to own more guns and would be more willing to use them to restore our country to the one we all grew up in; the one that the Founding Fathers envisioned when they wrote the US Constitution; the one that respects the rule of law and the will of the people and where courts abide by and follow the law as opposed to legislating from the bench.
I don't relish the prospect of another civil war but, if it comes to that between conservatives and liberals as the result of the increasing and constant rancor between the two, I would not hesitate to give up MY life if that's the price of restoring America to the vision, plan and intent of the Founding Fathers. We have been a bright, shining beacon for the world for over 200 years and we need to be again.
I've though about that and I believe that, as bad as the libs hate us, they would loose their cannon against us before they would the terrorist or a country such as Iran. And do it gleefully, posting happy faced daily death tolls in the Daily Kos, DU, etc. Michael Moore would do a documentary on the Literal Death of Conservatism (as seen from well behind the lines by that fatass chickenshit).
I would not hesitate to give up MY life if that's the price of restoring America to the vision, plan and intent of the Founding Fathers.
Live free or die! I'm down wid dat struggle.............

If they did, I think they would only fire it once just to see what it felt like. Most liberals, being squishy pacifists, would not be able to survive the aftermath of the death and destruction they caused if they actually fired. I still think that the military would refuse to fire because they know that most of their support comes from conservatives like us and the largest majority of them would refuse to pull the trigger.
Just out of curiosity, what does the Russian at the bottom of your post mean?
It's Greek.
Thanks. I never would have thought it was Greek, it looked Russian to me, but I’m no linguist.
