Recommended Gun List for Freepers (Vanity)
11/09/2008 | SoftwareEngineer

I would like to request that fellow Freepers help us non knowledgeable gun owners in recommending guns that we can buy before gun laws get changed. Many of us have only a basic semi automatic hand gun and have never given much thought to anything else.

However, before gun laws change I would like to complete my gun collection and even buy guns that I can leave to my children.

Maybe we can organize the recommendations as follows:

That’s interesting....Since .410 shotguns, are the only gauge of shotgun that is listed by actual caliber.(41 caliber)

It must be that the lands and the rifling are .410 and the free-bore is .45 caliber.

Modern shot sleeves will also form well to the irregularities of a rifled barrel I suppose.

For a good while, I owned a Derringer, double 6” barrell, either barrell could fire a .410 cartridge or a .45 colt. I used to keep a .410 in one and a .45 Colt in the other.

I don't have one (yet) and can't explain the technical details.

I am just wondering if they will carve out an exception for this and other similar revolvers.

My guess is "NO."

Yeah, my last one sold within 10 minutes at the gun show yesterday.

However I did buy some more powder and a case of primers.

Address Gun Violence in Cities: As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn’t have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.

What about us that are deeply entrenched in Liberal bastions?

I think you'd need an M60 with plenty of ammo and maybe several hundred Claymore mines. The 81mm mortar was always a blast.

Haven't read the whole thread but you're right on about the veracity of much of the info that's available on the internet. It's all personal opinion, and you know what they say about opinions...

My input is this:

My first gun that I bought in my adult life was a Remington Model 870 pump shotgun. The only thing I regret about it was selling it. For a general purpose firearm for hunting and social purposes, it was the right choice as a first gun, for me.

In these times, with a narcissistic sissy-boy "ruler" about to seize power, I suggest getting one's priorities in order in terms of what you want firearms for, and acquire them accordingly. For example, if you're thinking of CCW you obviously want a handgun instead of a long gun for your first choice.

This is also complicated by the consideration of what's going to be outlawed first. My theory, FWIW, is this:

1) Anything that's imported. He can stop that by executive order, and he will.

2) Certain types of ammo. The ignorantmasses won't object if he succeeds in banning "military" ammunition, to include .223, .308, 9mm, etc.

3) Semiauto handguns

4) "Assault weapons", construed to include any semiauto long gun, and possibly pump-action and lever guns too.

5) All handguns

6) All firearms

Admittedly, some of this will require "extraordinary" means for him and his minions to accomplish, but I won't be surprised to see conservative SC Justices "encouraged" to retire, etc, and replaced with @$$#01e$.

Whatever you buy, buy 1000 rounds of ammo for it and get some practice, and then stash what's left.

For "new" gun owners: When buying handguns, stick with revolvers because they're much less persnickety about ammo choices than pistols are, and they're less complicated to shoot. They don't fling your empties out either, they just stay in the chamber where you don't have to look for them. Plus, .38 spl practice ammo tends to be ubiquitous and reasonably priced, notwithstanding the present situation. Save your empties, and get set up to reload (handgun, rifle and shotgun) if your situation allows it.

DON'T TALK ABOUT GUNS OR SHOOTING AT WORK OR IN ANY OTHER SITUATION WHERE IT CAN BE USED AGAINST YOU, BECAUSE IT WILL.

BE CAREFUL WHO YOU GO SHOOTING WITH. Aside from the common-sense notion of avoiding unsafe people, someone may be just wanting to check out your stuff.

Avoid hyper-competitive and/or insecure people as well.

Join the NRA, LEAA, GOA, and JPFO and encourage those you trust to do the same.

Don’t ever sell any firearm. If it’s not a safety hazard it’s valuable to you. If it’s a safety hazard that can’t be fixed, cut it up with a torch and throw it away.

With all The Obamafuhrer has to do, I don’t think he’ll want to get in to a second amendment quagmire, it would stir the conservative base too much. And, it would take too long. I do think, however, he’ll just quietly put regulations on the manufacture, import, and sale of ammo of all kinds. Watch for that, and stock up on ammo. And keep your powder dry.

That's the biggest threat and problem. The "quiet regulations" are just as effective for infringing on your rights as head on confrontations, but much easier to do. We have let them chip away for years.

Remember - government is just a bunch of your fellow neighbors from around the land who think they are far better than you and far smarter than you. They gather together in places you agree to help pay for and run, where they then proclaim whatever they want and demand that you to agree to it and go along with it.

If you don't agree, then another group of your neighbors who are gathered together with arms and equipment that you agree to pay for will come to seize you and commit violence upon your person, possessions and family. These are the government enforcers.

Liberals are never satisfied with power and always want more. The Left has a long history around the world as a political ideology and movement based on controlling people and forcing them to bend to their will. In short - it is tyranny.

What kinds of guns are easy to made ammunition for? Any ideas?
