NEW DELHI, Nov 9: In continuation of the snub to India, US President-elect Barack Obama today spoke to Chinese President Hu Jintao. Till now, Mr Obama has returned calls to 16 world leaders, including Hu, but as reported by The Statesman on 8 November, the snub to the Indian Prime Minister continues.
The Ministry of External Affairs however maintain that they are unaffected by Mr Obamas call to the Chinese leader and points out that Mr Obama will call the Indian Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, in due course of time. Officials insist that too much is being read into these telephone calls and this is not an indication of the strength of Indo-US relationship which remains strong.
This, however, does not explain the fact that as of 8 November, when Mr Obama called the Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, the Indian government had maintained that Mr Obama was returning calls only to countries that were having of some military alliance with the US.
Officials in the MEA had particularly pointed out that both China and India had not received the call since both did not share a military alliance with USA.
This explanation no longer holds forth. But then the government seems to have no new answer for this latest development and embarrassment.
As President-elect of the US, Mr Obamas first actions are significant since they indicate areas that will be the focus of his administration. The calls to his allies are understandable but the absence of a call to India is quite a snub, especially since India is today regarded as the balancing power to the rise of China in Asia.
In his conversation with the Chinese President, Mr Obama discussed major global issues of common concern, including the financial turmoil, with the Communist leader saying the two countries should accommodate each others concerns and appropriately settle sensitive issues like Taiwan. Mr Obama described China as a great nation, and said that Chinas development and success meet US interests.
I will ask this again...why, how is the president-elect allowed to call all these leaders of nations. He is so green at this diplomatic stuff, he could cause an incident and he wouldn’t even know it.
Duh... they’re all calling to collect on the promises he made in return for their campaign donations.
Obama is following Clinton’s playbook on foreign policy. China, Pakistan, Syria, Iran and Venezuela will get favored treatment. India, Israel, Columbia and other democratic allies will be on the outs.
I wonder what will become of the U.S.-India nuclear cooperation agreement.
Maybe we can recall him as a lemon like they do with defective cars.
Call the Rahmmy-boy....let him know.

We can only hope!
second it
“Not talking doesn’t make us look tough it makes us look arrogant, it denies us opportunities to make progress, and it makes it harder for America to rally international support for our leadership.”

Dr Manmohan Singh must be opposed by a Marxist of some kind.
Not from most moonbats but from front line dem leaders who will say, Jesus, this guy is a one man wrecking crew. I think something will happen to him ala, Kennedy but far earlier into the term.
Silly India, he is calling all the threats first, presenting America’s soft underbelly to show that we are not a threat to them and asking for peace, harmony, and understanding. If you want a phone call, don’t look so friendly.
India, second largest military; largest democracy; emerging as a key ally against China and Islamofascism. Hussein Obama’s idea—screw you. Brilliant, you stupid punk.
Duh... theyre all calling to collect on the promises he made in return for their campaign donations.
Well, if he really spent time in Paki,
and Paki hates India...
You obviously thought that the One meant it when he said that Bush was still president.
Obama really is dumb. But you know who is dumber?? Indians, who voted for Obama.
Obama has been consistently anti Indian. He opposed the Nuclear treaty, he opposes software outsourcing to India and he obviously does not like Manmohan Singh (the PM of India) solely because Manmohan likes Bush.
I am glad Sikhs are mostly Republican. Atleast one Indian sub-group knows which political party favors free speech and capitalism.
The converation:
"Uh, Hu. Uh, Hu."
"Bwess you; bwess you."
