In an op-ed in the Washington Post on Friday, U.S. House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, wrote that Republicans need to "rebuild our party by fighting for the principles of freedom, opportunity, security and individual liberty."
You think?
Boehner wrote that during an Obama presidency, Republicans will "stand firmly against policies that violate our principles." If only more Republicans had stood firm when their own leadership pushed policies that violated their principles, the party might be enjoying its eighth consecutive electoral victory instead of its second consecutive shellacking.
Also on Friday, Boehner's predecessor, former Majority Leader Dick Armey, wrote in the Wall Street Journal, "today there is a categorical difference between what Republicans stand for and the principles of individual freedom." Truer words have never been spoken.
Armey's conclusion: Returning the party to its principles "will require a new generation of leadership, the sooner the better."
Amen to that. The people make the party. For Republicans, it's time for people of principle and character to take this once grand party back.
The GOP House leadership must be cleaned out...Boner is a chicken*hit
“thats not fair. that would take out paul ryan (wisconsin), Mike pence (indiana) and eric cantor (virginia)”
I go with John Kyl!
You can’t hold congressmen (who represent DISTRICTS) responsible for how entire states vote. Geesh.
Memo to Mr. Boehner:
Where ya been, dude?
If you want to be out front of THIS party, you’d better start running.
These are the guys who broke the contract with America and now they are worried about their jobs?
Mr. Boehner doesn't want to get out in front of THIS party. He needs to start hiding.
Boehner wants less government : Conservatives want less Boehner
While you are technically correct, people look at congress and see Republicans, Democrats and Washington. What someone did for their district no one except that district cares. Its what they did for the nation that everyone sees and judges. That aside, how effective has Boehner been resisting Democrats when he had some healthy numbers? How the hell will be more effective now?
When you squandered half your troops in the wrong battle your next move is not futile grandstanding. You fall back, regroup, and rebuild your army with the hope that through hard work and dedication you can recover your right to be proud of yourself. But you have a lot of hard work to do before you can look us in the eye again.
Boehner supported the bailout, used his position to twist Republican votes into supporting the bailout, and blamed it’s the first failure for passage on fellow Republicans thinking Pelosi was just too mean rather then it being a vote of conservaive principle.
No one’s being unfair to him, he earned this comtempt.
mccain won indiana in the end?
Kyl’s a Senator. This is about the House leadership.
Then WHY the HELL is Dick Army WORKING for the ACLU???????
Acorn was peanuts in a bailout of over $800 billion
He’s got young kids and like a normal American does not want to be sucked into the DC maelstorm. We may truly be at the point where good people don’t want to make politics a career. Look what happened to Palin.
He did NOT support it at first, and demanded that ACORN be removed. He stood up against Bush and said NO, until ACORN was removed. I’m NOT in his district, but I can tell you he is still very well liked, and admired in his district.
I didn't know about your guy, Paul Ryan, but I immediately thought about Pence and Cantor. Those guys give me hope that we can salvage conservatism without abandoning the Republican Party. A third party is a tough row to hoe.
