THE Post provided a lot of good campaign coverage, but readers have been consistently critical of the lack of probing issues coverage and what they saw as a tilt toward Democrat Barack Obama.
My surveys, which ended on election day, show that they are right on both counts. The op-ed page ran far more laudatory opinion pieces on Obama, 32, than on John McCain, 13. There were far more negative pieces (58) about McCain than there were about Obama (32), and Obama got the editorial board's endorsement. The Post has several conservative columnists, but not all were gung-ho about McCain. Stories and photos about Obama in the news pages outnumbered those devoted to McCain. Post reporters, photographers and editors - like most of the national news media - found the candidacy of Obama, the first African-American major-party nominee, more newsworthy and historic.
Obama deserved tougher scrutiny than he got, especially of his undergraduate years, his start in Chicago and his relationship with Antoin "Tony" Rezko, who was convicted this year of influence-peddling in Chicago. The Post did nothing on Obama's acknowledged drug use as a teenager. One gaping hole in coverage involved Joe Biden, Obama's running mate. When Governor Sarah Palin was nominated for vice-president, reporters were booking the next flight to Alaska. Some readers thought the Post went over Palin with a fine-tooth comb and neglected Biden. They are right; it was a serious omission. Jeff Poor of the Business and Media Institute wonders if the media will continue its policy of not scrutinising Obama: PRESIDENT-ELECT Barack Obama's new chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, has some baggage pertaining to the financial crisis. Emanuel, a senior adviser for former president Bill Clinton throughout the 1990s, was appointed to the board of Freddie Mac upon his departure from the

We already know. Media bias is unforgiving
File this one under “no shit”. What arrogance.
exactly
Maybe lawyers should be like the media. Only represent the people who are innocent.
And they have absolutely no intention of changing.
a tilt?? more like an avalanche.
The media continues to insult our intelligence by insinuating that they had just a “minor tilt” in his direction.
Sure we did but the story is gaining ground.
They want to crush your spirit.
Will the MSM (national OR international) ever examine Obama?
Dream on.
They did a damn good job of it too.
"Tilt"??? They make the leaning tower of Pisa look perfectly straight.
Make an intentional and concerted effort...

Thank you so very much Jim Robinson.
Today’s Oregonian was just sickening. Page after page was nothing but praise for the messiah. They printed “Dear Mr. President” letters to ‘the one’ and they were all full of the same mindless platitudes that we’ve been hearing for a year. It was just disgusting.
And then on the editorial page they had an article about how dead the Oregon Republican party is (which is pretty much true). They had printed pictures of the R’s who ran and lost this election and put large red X’s through them. When they were finished killing Republicans they went back to the sickening “he will save us all” nonsense.
The only worthwhile thing published in today’s paper was a coupon for $5 off a toy that I’m planning on buying for my son. The rest can line my cat’s litter box. She can present ‘the one’ with a nice, stinky hairy turd.
I’ll keep persuading my husband to leave this God forsaken state. The sooner the better.
32 negative pieces on Obama? Puhleaze! The 58 negative articles on McCain were total hatchet jobs, the 32 on Obama were probably softball criticisms to the effect of "he didn't go for the knockout punch when he could have".
Even when they admit their bias they can't be honest.
Like you I get all of my news from FR. I would go insane without it.
I will most likely be canceling my subscription to the Oregonian soon. I’ll really miss the sales circulars and coupons! They are the only reason I’m still getting that rag.
