Writ of Certiorari The Supreme Court does not have to hear each and every case, that the court “chooses” which ones they will hear. The court grants certiorari, meaning they will hear the case.

(write of certiorari) - A determination as to whether the big court will hear the case. Issuing a “certification” that they will take up the issue. Most appeals to highest court are discretionary; the court may take them or leave the lower court’s decision stand.

I’m no lawyer either, but if Obama doesn’t have to whip out ID, none of us should have to either, and worse, illegal aliens’ lawyers would use it as a precedent to let their clients walk.
