The Democrats' Assault On Seniors: Wrecking Medicare To Save Obamacare

VICTOR DAVIS HANSON: Why Are We Tiring Of Obama?  In short,  taken together, after nearly a year, these fissures have nearly ruined the once pretty texture of the Obama administration, and almost rendered it incapable of effective governance.

44% OF AMERICANS WOULD LIKE BUSH BACK AS PRESIDENT. “You miss him now that he’s gone, huh, America? You kicked him when you had him, and now…” From the comments: “I think the point of the comparison is this: Bush endured 8 years of wall-to-wall, 24/7 liberal bashing from multiple networks. Meanwhile, Obama was coronated and has enjoyed wall-to-wall adoration from the same multiple networks. If Obama’s numbers, 11 months in, already approach Bush’s after EIGHT years, then, baby, you’ve got serious problems.”

“His plan comes up short. There’s not enough troops, not enough resources and not enough urgency. What President Bush and Senator McCain don’t understand is that the central front in the War on Terror is not in Iraq and never was. The central front is in Afghanistan and Pakistan where the terrorists who hit us on 9-11 are still plotting attacks seven years later.”

Barack Obama
Campaign Speech
September 9, 2008

But, that was just a campaign speech.
Today Barack Obama announced that the US will begin withdrawing troops from Afghanistan in 2011.
He didn’t mention anything about “victory” or “urgency” in his speech:

The AP reported: Prior to getting his Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, President Barack Obama met with the Prime Minister of Norway. The President said once again that he plans to start drawing down U.S. Forces in Afghanistan in July of 2011. (Dec. 10)

In March 2000 the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) organization of Massachusetts held its 10 Year Anniversary GLSEN/Boston conference at Tufts University. This conference was fully supported by the Massachusetts Department of Education, the Safe Schools Program, the Governor’s Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth, and some of the presenters even received federal money. During the 2000 conference, workshop leaders led a “youth only, ages 14-21″ session that offered lessons in “fisting” a dangerous sexual practice. During the same workshop an activist asked 14 year-old students, “Spit or swallow?… Is it rude?” The unbelievable audio clip is posted here. Barack Obama’s “Safe Schools Czar” Kevin Jennings is the founder of GLSEN. He was paid $273,573.96 as its executive director in 2007. Jennings was the keynote speaker at the 2000 GLSEN conference.

Unfortunately for GLSEN, undercover journalists with Mass Resistance recorded these outrageous sessions at Tufts University. The audio was later leaked to a local radio station. This created such an uproar that GLSEN leaders were forced to apologize for their disgusting behavior.

Despite the controversy, Barack Obama’s Safe Schools Czar Kevin Jennings and his GLSEN organization did nothing to clean up their act. In fact in 2001 activists handed out “fisting kits” to the children and teachers who attended the GLSEN conference.

But that’s not all. The children who attended Kevin Jennnings’ GLSEN 2005 Conference also left with their own “Little Black Book – Queer in the 21st Century”.
Here’s one page from that Black Book for teens:
dookie noodle
The entire Little Black Book is posted here.

And, here’s the transcript from item #3 above:

No Dookie On Your Noodle! Nobody knows better than queer men that shit happens. It’s just a fact of life…and buttsex. While there are steps to take to avoid a mess, they’re not always practical for the boy on the go. Condoms allow you a certain freedom that can be a great selling point if you’re cruising the park and don’t want stray spunk on your new polyester shirt…”

So, basically, in the crudest language imaginable, GLSEN recommended that “boys” go out cruising for anonymous anal sex in public parks with strangers.
Thanks to a reader for pointing this out.

Today Kevin Jennings, the founder of GLSEN, is Barack Obama’s Safe Schools Czar.

There’s more to come.

UPDATE: Grassroots Nation has started a petition to fire Kevin Jennings.

Soros scheming at Copenhagen: Eco-redistribution of wealth

December 10, 2009 05:27 PM by Michelle Malkin

Hmmmm. Left-wing radical billionaire George Soros has injected himself into the Copenhagen climate change talks. He is riding to the “rescue” of negotiators at loggerheads over the pricetag of global regulatory intervention to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Look:

The $10 billion a year proposed by rich nations to help the poor adapt to climate change is “not sufficient” and the gap between what’s offered and what’s needed could wreck the Copenhagen climate conference, American billionaire George Soros said Thursday…

Soros, one in a line of international notables visiting the 192-nation Copenhagen meeting, told reporters he had developed a partial solution on funding. The investor-philanthropist suggested shifting some International Monetary Fund resources from providing liquidity to stressed global financial systems to a new mission of financing projects in developing countries for clean energy and adapting to climate change. About $100 billion in a one-time infusion could be generated, said Soros, a major supporter of causes in the developing world. But he acknowledged a major roadblock in Washington.

“It is possible to substantially increase the amount available to fight global warming in the developing world,” he said. “All that is lacking is the political will. Unfortunately the political will will be difficult to gather because of the mere fact that it requires congressional approval in the United States.” Soros said he had “informal discussions” with Obama administration officials and they recognized the difficulty of getting congressional approval. But he said the issue was too important to sweep aside.

Soros is crusading for expansion of “Special Drawing Rights” — a financial instrument that would essentially divert foreign aid to global warming special interests.

Soros said the $10 billion-a-year short-term plan is “more than nothing, but not much, it’s not sufficient.” He suggested climate financing be boosted with some $100 billion in Special Drawing Rights, the artificial “currency” of the International Monetary Fund, formulated as a basket of major currency values and held in reserve for lending in financial emergencies. In response to the recent global financial crisis, the IMF created more than $200 billion in new Special Drawing Rights. But Soros noted that the Obama administration had difficulty getting U.S. approval for that through Congress. He had found “quite widespread support” from other governments, but “other countries are reluctant to do something that is uncomfortable for the United States,” Soros said.

A key European negotiator was wary of Soros’ idea.

“We have to be very careful in the way we use the Special Drawing Rights,” said Artur Runge-Metzger of the European Commission.

Indeed. Soros has been lobbying for SDRs for years. Here’s a paper he wrote in 2002. He has a rather vested interest in the subject:

I am in the international assistance business. I give away nearly $500m a year. I am more aware than most people of the pitfalls. I have seen, particularly in the Balkans, how ineffective donor conferences are. The mechanism I am proposing is not perfect – nothing is – and it would not eliminate all of the shortcomings of international assistance, but it would be a great improvement over what we have now.

I propose that the IMF should set up an independent jury of eminent personalities- independent of the IMF and of the governments that appoint them. The jury would recommend which projects should qualify for donations; but the jury would not be in charge of actually allocating the funds; that function would remain with the donors. The donor countries would be presented with a menu from which they can choose and the menu would be properly prepared. A jury of eminent persons would take a personal interest in the quality of the projects they approve and there would be a separate body to audit and evaluate the projects so that the donors would have all the information they need to make their allocations. There would be a market-like interaction between donors and projects with checks and balances and quality control.

Reasons to worry? Let us count the ways:

In March, I remind you, Soros was slapped with a record fine in Hungary for illegal market manipulation.

In May, I remind you, Soros was fined by the state of California for failing to disclose a $350,000 campaign contribution funneled through one of his drug policy non-profits to an initiative intended to undermine the state’s 3 Strikes law.

There’s the Petrobras shadiness. And his boast of “having a very good crisis” this year after breaking the bank of England a decade ago.

We know Soros has the ear of the White House.

But who in Washington has their eyes on Soros and his scheming eco-redistributionists? Anyone?

Fine then don't give it to him: Norwegians Incensed over Nobel Protocol Snubs  What a laugh.  Those stupid twits gave b ho their precious prize, basically for being our 1st black president.

If you aren't taught the proper role of the American government or the principle underlying the Constitution, you'll back whoever is "nicest" to you, gives you the most stuff and does the most things for you."

"Rush had an interesting point of view on the Tiger flapadoodle. His point was that the public perceptions of Tiger and Obama have largely been manufactured by MSM. What we behold when the facades collapse is new to us only because this is the first time that be are seeing the reality. Tiger and Obama have not changed. They have simply been exposed."

The Obamas are the King and Queen in the Universe of Lies

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: Actually, I'm glad it happened. I am glad that that happened over there. I was just watching an unbelievable sight. President and Mrs. Obama on the balcony of their hotel room in Oslo, it's nighttime over there, and there is a torchlight parade reception, and the street is just filled, it's teeming with people, with their candles and torches, with the Obamas standing high above and looking down upon them, President Obama in his tuxedo, and I kid you not, Michelle (My Belle) looked like she was dressed in a way to make people think she was royalty, a queen. Make no mistake about it, it was on purpose. But the reason I'm glad it happened, cause, you know, Snerdley is saying, "Gosh, they just have to be eating this up, they just have to love this, they think of themselves as royalty." That's right. Let 'em think of that. Let them stay so out of touch with how they are perceived by people in this country. Let 'em go over there, get all these accolades and let them continue to live in the Universe of Lies. I think it's much better than if he went over there and got booed out of the place. Give that another year and that will happen. This is good. This is good that it happened because it allows them to continue to live this delusion that they are special, unlike any others who have come before them.

...we've been taken over financially, economically, politically, scientifically. Without firing a shot the left has seized the press, they have taken control of the banks, they're about to take control of the insurance companies and wipe them out, much of the auto industry, the left is now setting a salary scale for people.

They've taken over our currency, and they're preparing to seize health care. We're being occupied by the left. This country, we need to be liberated. We, the people of this country need to be liberated. We are oppressed now.

...the things that our Founding Fathers considered tyranny wouldn't rate a quarter page in a newspaper today, that the tyranny that we live under in this country already dwarfs the kind of tyranny that caused this country to be founded or inspired it to be founded in the first place. Now, the left, I look at them as the occupiers, they have labeled the word "dissent" as racism.

"Dissent" is now racism, to try to quash any dissent whatsoever. Protest has been labeled teabagging.

So, in addition, without firing a shot, being taken over financially, economically, politically, and scientifically, the language is being reset. Individual wealth is set to be taxed away. Schools are teaching the words of the left, the occupier. And we're given bread and circus distractions: Tiger Woods, the White House party crashers, to keep us entertained while the occupation goes on.

And this picture. The King and Queen waving to the throngs in the street from their perch high up above the masses.

Newsweek: "Unemployed Familes Need to Man Up"

—Ace

Yes, really, but it's not quite that bad. Under the headline:

The Recession's Sliver Lining

Ah. Yet another silver lining.

The headline is decidedly insensitive, but the article is slightly less so. I assume.

To be honest I don't know what the hell it's about; it's a typically confused feminist screed about something or other. I don't really know. Ask this guy, maybe he does. I assume the headline was just intended to be a catchy, provocative little "pun" or something, probably about how men can really help working moms in these tough economic times. (What does that have to do with unemployed families then, I wonder?)

But notice how aggressive and insensitive they were willing to be to the unemployed to sell their story.

The headline has since been changed, apparently -- now it's Families Need to Man Up.

Isn't it funny that Newsweek takes this position when the unemployed are not a club to be used against a president they disfavor, but instead a source of problems for a president they do favor.

Notice how quickly their view of such people shifts from sympathetic to hostile.

Again, I have no idea really what this article says. I did in fact attempt to read it and saw a great amount of whining by a woman about balancing job and family.

What is she talking about? Look, you guys pay me a salary, but you don't pay me enough to figure out what this addledpated harpy is going on about.

The key thing for me is the headline -- Man Up, Losers -- and of course that silver-lining subhed.

31 Ah. Yet another silver lining.

You bet. During the Bush years, the MSM was quick to find the downside of every economic upturn, the classic being "low unemployment is bad because it means that less people are looking for work." Now in the age of Prof. HopenChange, his media acolytes are sifting through the turds for stray corn kernels.

69 So let's see.

A year ago, Newsweek had an aneurysm over Phil Gramm talking about "whiners" and how we were in a "mental recession", reaching new rhetorical heights and synonym levels for "insensitive" and "stupid".

And now that Teleprompter Jesus is demonstrating that his only knowledge or capability in regard to the economy is Being Black, suddenly calling people whiners and saying they need to snap out of it is suddenly the highest wisdom.

John Coleman on the “six legged monster”

10 12 2009

Guest post by John Coleman – KUSI-TV, Weather Channel Founder

December 7, 2009

David and Goliath

The 21st century Goliath is Global Warming. It is a powerful six-legged monster. In no order of strength, those legs are:

(1) The big money climate change scientists and their powerful institutions from governmental centers to Universities,

(2) The United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change which is a Geneva-based, highly funded bureaucracy controlled by one-world government political activists,

(3) Environmentalists who seek to use threats of climate chaos to stop the use of fossil fuels and return to a simpler, more “natural”, primitive lifestyle,

(4) Government at all levels whose political leaders find dealing with global warming is their opportunity to save us all from disaster cementing their status and success,

(5) The media populated by people who love to warn us of impending disaster and give us the advice we need to cope, who believe in Al Gore and his political party and who know that “the sky is falling” is the best headline of them all,

(6) Al Gore, who uses his status as a successful former Senator and Vice President to provide a platform to promote his message of doom and gloom, a message he learned in his only college science class and must have truly believed for many years but should see now is only an empty threat.

The total financial resources and power structure behind Goliath are staggering.

Goliath now occupies Copenhagen. For the 15th time, Goliath is meeting to publicize his long list of threatened consequences if do not head his demands. The ice will melt, the coasts and islands will flood displacing millions and killing tens of thousands; the polar bears and eventually thousands of other species will die as habitats are destroyed; hurricanes will become superstorms wrecking havoc on the coastal cities killing tens of thousands; heat waves will kill more hundreds of thousands as they grip the planet; drought and heat will destroy our agriculture starving untold millions more. He tells us this is because of our carbon footprints left by our burning of fossil fuels emitting exhaust of carbon dioxide. Read the rest of this entry »

Very nice. Although I would add the agenda-driven Nobel commitee to the list, maybe as a tail. But then again, it’s possible that the Nobel clowns are being paid by powerful interests within government.

It’s good to see that public opinion is turning around on this issue. Wired is getting their butts whipped by their readers at the moment after posting an article titled “The Psychology of Climate Change Denial”. First, they disabled commenting on the article and, after a few people complained, they changed their minds and opened the article to a flood of complaints and negative reactions. Check it out.

"

Good post to point out that this is nothing to do with science and very little to do with politics. This is a plain and simple grab for power.

How does it effect me and my family? IF it gets warmer as predicted we will survive the winters and not need coal, gas or electricity. The new powers imposed on my government mandates such swinging cost increases on these utilities that we will not be able to afford to use them. We will be reduced to a wood stove for heat and cooking.
IF it gets cold we face almost certain death."

"Average person has no time to think about AGW. When they do have time, it sure is cold and money is short. If something comes up for vote, the big question will be “Will this cost me money?”. The answer is always yes. It will be pointed out cap and trade will double your utility bill and raise gasoline to about $5 per gallon.

Voting for any sort of carbon constraining taxes will be the new third rail of politics."

THE EPA'S CARBON BOMB FIZZLES

"...President Obama, having failed to get climate legislation, didn't want to show up to the Copenhagen climate talks with a big, fat nothing. So the EPA pulled the pin. In doing so, it exploded its own threat.

Far from alarm, the feeling sweeping through many quarters of the Democratic Congress is relief. Voters know cap-and-trade is Washington code for painful new energy taxes. With a recession on, the subject has become poisonous in congressional districts. Blue Dogs and swing-state senators watched in alarm as local Democrats in the recent Virginia and New Jersey elections were pounded on the issue, and lost their seats.

But now? Hurrah! It's the administration's problem! No one can say Washington isn't doing something; the EPA has it under control. The agency's move gives Congress a further excuse not to act.

"The Obama administration now owns this political hot potato," says one industry source. "If I'm [Nebraska Senator] Ben Nelson or [North Dakota Senator] Kent Conrad, why would I ever want to take it back?"

Sarah Palin: The climate crowd, exposed

An e-mail scandal demonstrates that matters are uncertain. The issue is, however, politicized. No president should make deals in an environment like that.

With the publication of damaging e-mails from a climate research center in Britain, the radical environmental movement appears to face a tipping point. The revelation of appalling actions by so-called climate-change experts allows the American public to finally understand the concerns so many of us have articulated on this issue.

"Climategate," exposes a highly politicized scientific circle -- the same circle whose work underlies efforts at the Copenhagen climate-change conference. The agenda-driven policies being pushed in Copenhagen won't change the weather, but they would change our economy for the worse.

The e-mails reveal that leading climate "experts" deliberately destroyed records, manipulated data to "hide the decline" in global temperatures, and tried to silence their critics by preventing them from publishing in peer-reviewed journals. What's more, the documents show that there was no real consensus even within the climate-research crowd. Some scientists had strong doubts about the accuracy of estimates of temperatures from centuries ago, estimates used to back claims that more recent temperatures are rising at an alarming rate.

I've always believed that policy should be based on sound science, not politics. Our representatives in Copenhagen should remember that good environmental policymaking is about weighing real-world costs and benefits -- not pursuing a political agenda.

That's not to say I deny the reality of some changes in climate -- far from it. I saw the impact of changing weather patterns firsthand while serving as governor of our only Arctic state.(continued)

Hollywood & Howard Zinn’s Marxist education project

Hollywood & Howard Zinn’s Marxist education project
by Michelle Malkin
Creators Syndicate

The two most important questions for society, according to the Greek philosopher Plato, are these: What will we teach our children? And who will teach them? Left-wing celebrities have teamed up with one of America’s most radical historians to take control of the classroom in the name of “social justice.” Parents, beware: This Hollywood-backed Marxist education project may be coming to a school near you.

On Sunday, December 13, the History Channel will air “The People Speak” – a documentary based on Marxist academic Howard Zinn’s capitalism-bashing, America-dissing, grievance-mongering history textbook, “A People’s History of the United States.” The film was co-produced/written/bankrolled by Zinn’s Boston neighbor and mentee Matt Damon. An all-star cast of Bush-bashing liberals including Danny Glover, Josh Brolin, Bruce Springsteen, Marisa Tomei, and Eddie Vedder, will appear. Zinn’s work is a self-proclaimed “biased account” of American history that rails against white oppressors, the free market, and the military.

Zinn’s objective is not to impart knowledge, but to instigate “change” and nurture a political “counterforce” (an echo of fellow radical academic and Hugo Chavez admirer Bill Ayers’ proclamation of education as the “motorforce of revolution.”) Teachers are not supposed to teach facts in the school of Zinn. “There is no such thing as pure fact,” Zinn asserts. Educators are not supposed to emphasize individual academic achievement. They are supposed to “empower” student collectivism by emphasizing “the role of working people, women, people of color, and organized social movements.” School officials are not facilitators of intellectual inquiry, but leaders of “social struggle.”

Zinn and company have launched a nationwide education project in conjunction with the documentary. “A people’s history requires a people’s pedagogy to match,” Zinn preaches. The project is a collaboration between two “social justice” activist groups, Rethinking Schools and Teaching for Change. Rethinking Schools recently boasted of killing a social studies textbook series in the Milwaukee school system because it “failed to teach social responsibility.” A Rethinking Schools guide on the September 11 jihadi attacks instructs teachers to “nurture student empathy” for our enemies and dissuade students from identifying as Americans. “It’s our job to reach beyond this chauvinism.” And a Rethinking Schools guide to early childhood education written by Ann Pelo disparages “a too-heavy focus on academic skills” in favor of “social justice and ecological teaching” for preschoolers.

Teaching for Change’s objective, in Obama-esque fashion, is to train students not to achieve actual proficiency in core academic subjects, but to inspire them to “become active global citizens.” Today’s non-achieving aspirants are tomorrow’s Nobel Peace Prize winners, after all.

No part of the school curriculum is immune from the social justice makeover crew. Zinn’s partners at Rethinking Schools have even issued teaching guides to “Rethinking Mathematics: Teaching Social Justice by the Numbers” – which rejects the traditional white male patriarchal methods of teaching computation and statistics in favor of p.c.-ified number-crunching:

“Rethinking Mathematics is divided into four parts. The first part is devoted to a broad view of mathematics that includes historical and cultural implications. Part Two includes nine classroom narratives in which teachers describe lessons they have used that infuse social justice issues into their mathematics curriculum. Included here…an AP calculus lesson on income distribution. The third part contains three detailed classroom experiences/lessons. These include a physical depiction of the inequitable distribution of the world’s wealth, the results of a student investigation into how many U.S. Presidents owned slaves, and a wonderful classroom game called ‘Transnational Capital Auction’ in which students take on the role of leaders of Third World countries bidding competitively for new factories from a multinational corporation.

Short lessons, provocative cartoons, and snippets of statistics are scattered throughout Rethinking Mathematics. A partial list of topics includes racial profiling, unemployment rate calculation, the war in Iraq, environmental racism, globalization, wealth distribution and poverty, wheelchair ramps, urban density, HIV/AIDS, deconstructing Barbie, junk food advertising to children, and lotteries.”

Our students will continue to come in dead last in international testing. But no worries. With Howard Zinn and Hollywood leftists in charge, empty-headed young global citizens will have heavier guilt, wider social consciences, and more hatred for America than any other students in the world.

CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: The New Socialism. This time, without Reagan and Thatcher to beat it back. “One of the major goals of the Copenhagen climate summit is another NIEO shakedown: the transfer of hundreds of billions from the industrial West to the Third World. . . . Politically it’s an idea of genius, engaging at once every left-wing erogenous zone: rich man’s guilt, post-colonial guilt, environmental guilt. But the idea of shaking down the industrial democracies in the name of the environment thrives not just in the refined internationalist precincts of Copenhagen. It thrives on the national scale, too. . . . Socialism having failed so spectacularly, the left was adrift until it struck upon a brilliant gambit: metamorphosis from red to green.”

I’d take them more seriously if they had any proposals that didn’t transfer wealth and power to . . . them.

Physics Group Splinters Over Global Warming Review. “As the science scandal known as ClimateGate grows, the largest U.S. physicists’ association is finding itself roiled by internal dissent and allegations of conflict of interest over a forthcoming review of its position statement on man-made global warming.”

"Remember Orland? That nicely sited station with a long record?"

Note the graph I put in place in June 2007 on that image.

Now look at the graph in a blink comparator showing June 2007 and today:

And it is not just Orland, I’m seeing this issue at other stations too. [...] The timing could not be worse for public confidence in climate data.

Soros: Will No One Rid Me Of This Troublesome Congress?

George Soros, the billionaire left-wing philanthropist and convicted inside trader, joined the caravan of elites at the international climate summit in Copenhagen this week. He used the opportunity to explain that he had a solution to financing the fight against global warming. It would require about $100 billion to pay for projects in the developing world. There was just one barrier: The U.S. Congress.

"It is possible to substantially increase the amount available to fight global warming in the developing world,” he said. “All that is lacking is the political will. Unfortunately the political will will be difficult to gather because of the mere fact that it requires congressional approval in the United States."

Is Obama Really Preparing for Civil War? (Chuck Baldwin)

The Obama 4 year plan to re-make America

1. The complete restructuring of our economy in accordance with Obama's socialist construct.
2. The establishment of a federally run Health Care System
3. The reshaping of our military prowess into an obsolete commodity.
4. A gradual consolidation, under the Executive branch, of authority commonly delegated to the Judicial and the Legislative branches.

5. The legal prohibition of aired dissent

Democrats To GOP: Keep Out And Shut Up

Loyal Opposition: The president has called on Republicans to "stop trying to frighten the American people." But telling the truth about the never-ending expansion of government is not scaremongering.

First, Democrats in Congress kept their colleagues on the opposite side of the aisle from a place at the table on health reform because Republicans "aren't offering a plan." The truth is that they aren't offering a big government plan, and Democratic leaders are blind to solutions that focus on the private sector.

Now, adding insult to injury, the president told Republicans during a White House meeting Wednesday with leaders of both parties to quit scaring the public, as recounted to reporters by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Let's see if we've got this right. Republicans are allowed to take part in decisions like the most sweeping changes in health care law in history, and rescuing the economy from the worst downturn since the Great Depression — but only if their ideas mirror liberals' trillion-dollar statist wish list.

And if they refuse to get on board the Democrats' juggernaut, they'd better not just get out of the way of it; they also don't have any business telling the American people about its size or its speed, or the havoc it will wreak on its journey.

As House Minority Leader John Boehner said, there's pretty much a hiring freeze going on in the country as businesses wait to see how bad Congress' dictates will be on the health insurance they provide to their workers. "And the president wants to blame us for informing the American people about what's happening here and how it will affect them."

Making Nightmare Out Of Health Care

Health Care: IBD recently ran an extensive series of pieces by economist Thomas Sowell highlighting government's involvement in the financial meltdown. We did it both to correct the historical record and to warn about future interventions of the same kind.

The most important warning is over current plans by Democrats in Congress and the White House to "reform" the U.S. health care system in a way that will end up hamstringing private insurers, bankrupting doctors and adding trillions of dollars to U.S. debt — while not improving health care in America one jot.

As the sagacious Sowell has noted many times and in many places, government action such as taking over 17% of our $14 trillion economy may sound like a good idea — and may even have the best of intentions — but is in fact dangerous to our health. Literally.

And when, would we add, has government ever taken on a large domestic program that has worked well or stayed within its budget? Medicare, when considered in the mid-1960s, was projected to cost $10 billion by 1990. Actual outlays 25 years later came to $107 billion. And now Democrats want to expand it.

Entire books have been written debunking the idea of government-run health care. The idea of an overhaul is wildly unpopular among Americans, especially once they find out what's contained in the "reforms" Congress wants.

The latest polls show strong opposition to government-run health care. And it's growing. Just Thursday, a CNN survey showed 61% of Americans oppose the idea. Other major polls — Gallup, Rasmussen, you name it — show similar opposition.

The latest IBD/TIPP Poll, taken in early December, suggests it's affecting President Obama's ability to govern, with 47% giving him a poor grade on health care.

Dear Congress:

After watching the absurd kabuki theater going on in Washington, where Harry Reid spends half his time crowing, “we’ve got the votes!” and the other half bullying people to get the votes, and Nancy Pelosi walks around like a smiling set of brass knuckles, offering anything, hourly, to anyone who will help her pass their healthcare plan “by Christmas,” I have a message for all of you in both houses of the US Congress:

GO HOME. Drop what you are doing, right now, and go home. Put the 2000 page healthcare bill that you haven’t read into the trash can as you turn out the lights and head for the airport.

When you come back in 2010, you can start again, from scratch, and you can try to put together a sensible healthcare bill that comes in under 250 pages. But when you come back from your vacation, you must be cognizant of the fact that your past methods have failed, so consider the following:

1) Declare “no more closed doors” and try some of that “transparency” you like to squawk about. Allow Moderate Democrats and the GOP to actually have a hand in crafting the bill. That requires some growing up, I know; it requires Mrs. Pelosi to actually act like a stateswoman instead of Olivia Soprano, but that’s what she is paid to be; one assumes she would not want Olivia’s legacy.

2) Gather a contingent of Americans from each state, comprised of a few doctors, a few lawyers, a few nurses, a few patients and a few average, politically-unconnected people, and listen to them. Listen to what they think we need, what they think is wasteful, what they think is best left to their discretion. They won’t have all the answers; this is not magic. But the American people are by-and-large pragmatic and they can be very sensible on serious issues. Regardless of how much you believe it to be so, Americans are not idiots meant to be ruled.

In case you have forgotten, you were elected to serve them, not to dictate.

3) Take a look at the forbidden issue of tort reform. Yes, the lawyers give you a lot of money to ignore it, just as the teachers unions give you a lot of money to look away from their failings and abuses while shoveling more taxpayer funds into their bottomless hole, but take a look at tort reform anyway. It needn’t be drastic; no one is saying we must put a limited value on human life and human suffering; we should not do that, not in the courtrooms, and not in the hospitals, either.

But perhaps there should be inserted into the process some local oversights -panels that examine suits, to see whether a case actually has some merit to its charge of malpractice or ineptitude. They might, for instance, tell someone who was stupid enough to put a hot cup of coffee in her lap while she’s driving that her vapidity did not entitle her to two million dollars. They might tell the guy who decided to paint a wall too soon after surgery that his doctor is not at fault for the consequences of his own decision, and the case would simply not happen.

Just the existence of such a panel could act as a serious deterrent to the frivolous lawsuits that have tied up our courts and contributed to such litigation-phobia that children can no long climb on monkey bars and ride teeter-totters and corporations are afraid to sponsor student-events.

And, Dear Congress, after you have actually bothered to listen to each other (a rare thing) and then listened to Americans (an almost-unknown thing), perhaps you can admit how unworkable all of your recent “solutions” have been. Pay attention to the fact that you could not handle paperwork for 700,000 home owners, and consider that maybe if you couldn’t do that, you are not ready to handle the health concerns of 350 million.

I know, it might be a humbling thing for you to realize that you have fallen down on so many jobs, regardless of whether they were created or saved. But maybe a little humbling is what you need, in order to actually, you know…govern effectively.

Go home, and work in a soup kitchen, or watch a church teach people how to write job resumes in hopes that you will step off the necks of businesses to allow job-creation. Go out and stand before the doors of a local grocery store for a little while, or a local K-mart, or even the local mall, and just watch America walk by you. Don’t say a word. Don’t greet anyone. Don’t extend your hand and ask for anyone’s support. Just shut up -pretend you’re invisible- stop being a politician and watch people as they go by, and listen to what they are saying. You’ll find that you’re not the center of the universe, anymore, and that people are scrappy, and trying to hang on to their lives and their ways with a bit of pride, even if they don’t always seem dignified. You might hear what they really think of your universe, too, as they remark to each other, in disgust, about how you and your fellow “representatives” have long-ceased to represent them.

Go home, and read Shakespeare, and consider what “sound and fury, signifying nothing” really means. Read Chesterton; “It is terrible to contemplate how few politicians are hanged,” and wonder if there might be a rope ready for you, someday. Read Virgil, “I sing of arms and the man,” and consider what presidents and parliamentarians are supposed to be doing for their nation and the world. Listen to Elwood P. Dowd in Harvey; “In this world, you must be oh-so smart, or oh-so pleasant. Well, for years, I was smart. I recommend pleasant.”

Go home and read George Washington;

“Government is not reason, it is not eloquent – it is a force. Like fire it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master; never for a moment should it be left to irresponsible action.”

Consider, then, how irresponsibly you have been attempting to craft legislation by means of bullying, and braying, and scheming and swaying, while not listening to the people you are meant to serve; not listening at all.

Go home, Congress, and -even if you are not especially religious- find a bible and read about a government that forces people to travel to them, that the people may be counted and then held accountable. Read about a scheming king who seeks to abuse the good will of others for intelligence meant to destroy, not build up. Read about the slaughter of innocents and the land full of grief that results from the rank ambition of those who govern. And consider who you might be in any part of that story. Read about the powerful insiders and the lowly outsiders, and choose which side you wish to join.

Go home, Congress, and give America a break from your freakish certainties, your falsities, frailties and your folly. Turn off your blackberries and stay off the television and try to find whatever scraps of humanity still remain buried beneath the crust of stinking, corrupt ambition you’ve allowed to grow on you.

Perhaps when you come back, you can be humans again, and sane, and willing to actually serve your nation, instead of yourselves.

If not, you will be served eviction notices, soon enough.

“Remaking America,” indeed.

Fox news: federal judge rules that it's UNCONSTITUTIONAL to cut funding to ACORN

Breaking: Judge Enjoins Congress from Cutting Off ACORN's Supply of Shakedown Money
Updated: Judge's Claims Analyzed A Bit

—Ace

A Clinton-appointed judge, I'm told. Here is a PDF of the decision.

ACORN has claimed the cutoff constitutes a Bill of Attainder, which is frankly silly, I think (although I think the Volokh guys argued, somewhat persuasively, this was a plausible finding).

The judge claims, weirdly, that there is a separation of powers issue that somehow restrains Congress from exercising its constitutionally-specified power to raise and spend money. Huh? The judge claims some sort of finding of guilt by a court or an executive administrative magistrate is required before Congress can exercise its major constitutionally-specified power. Odd, it seems, but I suppose not so odd if you start out with the idea this is a Bill of Attainder.

I'll get some quotes but for now I'm just posting it.

Interesting quote:

At first blush, the idea that the deprivation of the ability to apply for discretionary federal funds is "punitive" within the meaning of the bill of attainder clause seems implausible.

With all due respect, Geinus: It seems that way at first blush, at second blush, at seventh blush, and at eighty-eighth blush too.

This judge is effectively stating that Congress has no right to decide how it directs discretionary funding to organizations, and that once an organization is on the federal teat, it has the right to continue suckling in perpetuity until some finding of "guilty" is made against it by some other branch of the government.

By the Way: If you don't know, an injunction is not, in theory, the court's last word on the matter. Rather it is is a form of temporary relief, a temporary injunction against the action until the court can consider the matter fully.

But the bases for granting injunctive relief includes the idea that "the plaintiff is likely to win on the merits at full trial," so very often, a granting of injunctive relief indicates how the judge is going to come down in the end.

Link Problems: I was sent the PDF of the decision. I just stupidly "linked" that, which doesn't work, since you can't read a PDF in my email. I will try to find the decision somewhere on the web.

LINK: Okay, here is the file. PDF of Order on Injunction.

Judge Nina Gershon... about whom Rep. Darryl Issa says:

This left-wing activist Judge is setting a dangerous precedent that left-wing political organizations plagued by criminal accusations have a constitutional entitlement to taxpayer dollars. The Obama Administration should immediately move to appeal this injunction.

You know what's ridiculous here? Obama is pressing this suit, supposedly, against his ally, his creature, ACORN. It is entirely within his power to tank the case and deliberately lose it.

Weak: The judge relies on a previous case in which Congress had stripped funding from 39 specified federal employees. The court there found the stripping of funding for their jobs to be a bill of attainder because the workers already had a vested property interest in their jobs.

Plus, and this isn't mentioned, but let's face it, those are individuals. A corporation is legally, fictively a "person" too, but not really. I don't know what principle of law this is, but surely there's Oh come on with that nonsense caveat somewhere.

Anyway, this particular judge looks at that case and relies on it. She notes the problem -- in that case, the employees were already found to have a vested right in their jobs, which could not be stripped away without some due-process type finding of guilt. But in this case, ACORN has "no right" (emphasis in original) to these funds.

So doesn't that mean, immediately, the two cases are different?

No, the judge claims, because ACORN is being denied the right to offer its services to the government in the future.

Um: So what? They also have "no right" to demand the government do business with them in the future. They simply have no right to demand any money at all. It is entirely an at-will employment situation, and the government has fired ACORN.

But the judge spins this into a cotton-candy confection that's really tasty for ACORN. Apparently you can't prohibit any organization from receiving federal funds -- and that means the KKK can start petitioning the government for its own "community outreach" efforts.

It cannot be stressed enough that these funds are entirely discretionary, entirely by whim of Congress. This is not a case of someone who qualifies for some federal cash according to the letter of the law spelling out the entitlement being wrongly denied the money -- in that case, the person can point to the law and say "According to that law, I qualify; give me that money."

In that sort of case, there exists -- if only arguably -- a right of the person to claim the money and thus a right to challenge the government's refusal to pay it.

In this case, ACORN has the same right to millions of dollars from the government that I do: Namely, none whatsoever. And yet Congress' finding that it may exercise its discretion and end funding of ACORN is treated as if, well, not within its discretion at all.

If the government cannot deny millions to ACORN, then it cannot also simply deny the money to me, and I too would like to enjoin the government from its continuing refusal to pay me money.

Indulgences: Study Shows Good Little Eco-Ninnies Who Buy Organic 'n Stuff More Likely to Lie and Cheat in Experiments That Test Ethics

—Ace

Pretty interesting. Two possible conclusions:

1) Eco-ninnies just suck.

2) Eco-ninnies are effectively buying post-modern papal indulgences, they believe, by paying for their sins with minor changes in their consumer purchasing patterns. By buying this supposedly eco-friendly soup, they've saved the environment a little, and satisfied their own (apparently low) threshold of moral and upright behavior, and have a great deal of wiggle room when it comes to other areas of their lives.

I sort of buy both but especially that Number Two. I have long, and long-windedly, argued that liberals indulge themselves with a great many of Ostentatious, Conspicuous Pseudo-Moral Gestures, no different than the judgmental prig they take as representative of a "Christian," a stereotype they know almost exclusively from movies like Footloose.

The gestures are directed both outward and inward, outward to convince others of one's superior morality, but more importantly inward, to convince themselves.

Anyone who's ever talked to such a person comes away thinking, "Good Lord, you have fashioned yourself a real crazy-quilt of ad hoc, made-up, superstitious neo-pagan rules to live by! How do you keep up with all these restrictions and blather?"

It seems like a patchwork super-structure of ersatz, faddish morality designed with only one conceivable purpose: To supplant the conventional morality taught by traditional institutions. Apparently the soul still craves the feeling of living a just and righteous life, even after traditional notions of the just and righteous have been abandoned. The entire code of forbidden foods and rituals of eating in Leviticus is overwritten, line by line and jot by tittle, by some new equally oddball code: Pork is not precisely forbidden, but you can't eat pork that was acquired from a farm more than 60 miles away; and Thou Shall Not Eat Chilean Sea Bass, at least not if it has been caught by a commercial net.

In some cases it might make a lick of sense (okay, maybe the sea bass is being overfished and we hardly want that) and in other cases it's purely a neo-pagan gesture to the new gods. I really do not believe the trivial "carbon costs" of shipping some pork in by railway car are anything more than a rounding error in the carbon costs of feeding that pig and sustaining a farm in the first place.

Oh, and carbon costs are jive in the first place.

Net result? One's sense of place in the universe is affirmed, and one is given the fulfillment of knowing one is doing Gods' work (plural intended) in making rather trivial shopping adjustments. And, even better than that: One gets that crucially-important rush of feeling superior to someone else.

And one more bonus: If you're doing right by Mother Earth, it frees you up to cut corners with your fellow man.

. In their study (described in a paper now in press at Psychological Science), subjects who made simulated eco-friendly purchases ended up less likely to exhibit altruism in a laboratory game and more likely to cheat and steal.

In an experiment, participants were randomly assigned to select items they wanted to buy in one of two online stores. One store sold predominantly green products, the other mostly conventional items. Then, in a supposedly unrelated game, all of the participants were allocated $6, to share as they saw fit with an anonymous (and unbeknownst to them, imaginary) recipient. Subjects who had chosen items from the green store coughed up less money, on average, than their counterparts. In a second experiment, participants were again assigned to shop in either a green or conventional store. Then they performed a computer task that involved earning small sums of cash. The setup offered the opportunity to cheat and steal with impunity. The eco-shoppers were more likely to do both.

It would be foolish to draw conclusions about the real world from just one paper and from such an artificial scenario. But the findings add to a growing body of research into a phenomenon known among social psychologists as "moral credentials" or "moral licensing.

Yeah I just said that before reading it so shut up, I don't need social psychologists to give it a name for me. "Indulgences" works fine.

A few years ago (or ten years ago -- how the years flash by) I read some magazine article about "compassion fatigue," liberals basically growing fatigued by the long list of restrictions urged upon them, grapes this week, apples the next, coffee now, now sea bass. And it discussed just a general weariness about the whole regime.

It is probably the case that people only have a limited capacity to restrict their wants and desires according to moral stricture. And that you can not simply keep adding and adding to the pile of requirements and forbiddances. Because at some point, someone just gives up on it, and starts observing rules more sporadically, or not at all, because he's overwhelmed by the sheer number of demands for self-denial and cannot deny himself any further.

And if that's the case -- which seems rather plausible -- it is in fact dangerous to continuously add to this list of moral strictures, clogging up one's limited self-denial machinery with trivial matter, because the ultimate effect may be that the truly important stuff starts getting ignored in favor of the meaningless, or frankly, the flat-out idiotic.

Afterthought: Religions impose a lot of rules about two broad areas: Sex, and food.

It seems that a lot of liberals are getting their religion in at Whole Foods. Sure, they have generally shed some of the rules about sex they find arbitrary and too restrictive, but day-um, are they ever making up for that additional freedom in the Sex Sector by adding a huge list of Thou Shall Nots in the Food Sector.

I don't know -- if you've shed the guilt for a licentious blow-jay you're going to get maybe twice a year if you're lucky, but on the other hand, you have to worry and gnash your teeth every single meal fretting that your pastrami-on-rye isn't free range enough to be eco-kosher, what have you really gained as far as freedom of action?

Seems to me you'd be better served to just chuck your worries about the sinful sandwiches and just feel guilty twice a year when you hook up with someone.

Corrected: The study was about the eco-conscious, not liberals, exactly; liberalish pseudo-conservatives like David Brooks and Rod "Captain Crunch" Dreher fall into this category too, I guess. So do some readers, who aren't liberal (and who I just realized I insulted with whatever term I use; sorry).

So, in the beginning of the post, I've changed liberals to "eco-ninnies." After that I let stand the slip into "liberals," because while the studies may be about eco-ninnies, the rest of my post is about liberals who buy into eco-ninnyhood.

Thanks to Artorious.

The Christmas season is domestic; and for that reason most people now prepare for it by struggling in tramcars, standing in queues, rushing away in trains, crowding despairingly into teashops, and wondering when or whether they will ever get home. I do not know whether some of them disappear forever in the toy department or simply lie down and die in the tea-rooms; but by the look of them, it is quite likely. Just before the great festival of the home [Christmas], the whole population seems to have become homeless.
– Chesterton on Christmas Shopping & Home
(The Thing: Why I am a Catholic)

Tea-partiers and the classless left: “Pretend to die; because they’re pussies and won’t die for real

Climatefakes and Forced Abortion: It has always really been about the suppression of humanity and of human life. I wrote the other day:

How the Evil must dance when a new life is disallowed, shredded in utero, and the [Christ] flash, the “yes” snuffed out. How Evil must smile in content when the means by which God permits us to assist in creation are waylaid, or purposely directed toward what is only decaying, and corrupted and utterly dead.

It all reminds me of the moment I knew I could never vote for Al Gore for president, even though I had never voted for a Republican for that office, before. I watched Gore work a crowd; he was sweaty and nearly hysterical and he said, “this is a contest between good and evil.” And my flesh crawled. I didn’t know why, exactly, but I wrote to my Li’l Bro Thom, adding a quote from Gore that sounded all-too-much like the old enticing promise, “all of this will be yours…”

Thom, center-left, wrote back that his flesh, too, crawled. “Too familiar,” he wrote.

The is a profoundly anti-life and anti-liberty subtext beneath the heady rhetoric of “planetary salvation” we get from the proponents of Climatefraud. We need to control your procreation, to save the planet. We need to control your options, to save the planet. We’re saving you, don’t you see?

The illusion of material salvation through the disruption of life perhaps began with the sexual revoltion; back then, the fakery was about so-called “freedom”.

Indeed, times DOES prove where wisdom lies. Some forty or more years after widespread acceptance of contraception set in how have we done? Perhaps it is best to review some of the “promises” that contraceptive advocates made, then review the [warnings] of Paul VI. Then lets review the record . . .

It is an enduring irony
that one of the most prophetic and wise teachings coming from the papal throne made the error of not proclaiming itself “infallible.” In fact, Humanae Vitae, which almost everyone scoffs at, but few have ever read, told us we would end up precisely where we have, with powerful people and movements working diligently to suppress life, which comes from God.

Since life comes from God, then an effort to suppress life is an effort to suppress God.

An effort that will fail, of course.

It is evil to not want life, or to want only limited and acceptable “versions” of life; it serves evil to create a giant illusion meant, finally, to do away with as much life as possible.

That’s what the terrorists did on 9/11: they did away with as much life as possible. If they had been able to kill 30,000 or 300,000 on that day, they’ve have been just as happy. The Climate-alarmists are not going to kill us outright, they’re just going to embrace not-living until only the “best” are still alive.

Somehow, it is always at Christmastime that these Death-Crusaders are at their busiest, trying to shut things down, and explain things away. And that makes sense, actually. For as long as the notion of God Incarnating -becoming “one of us” in joy and suffering, and in death, and in new life- can be internalized and held on to, they can never really rule. We will always be too free.

“What we call Man’s power over Nature turns out to be a power exercised by some men over other men with Nature as its instrument.”

The VAT is back!

The VAT is a separate, additional tax which is hidden in the price of goods and services. It is paid by the entity that makes the product, and everyone in between down to the ultimate consumer of the product. It is not a replacement for the income tax or any other currently mandated tax. It is an addition to them.

Why Johnny Can't Work

Yet....In contrast there are the homeschoolers.

My husband and I owned a health clinic. (My husband managed it and I was one of the doctors.) We had children in the office every day. The contrast between the homeschoolers and those who attended government school was astonishing.

The homeschoolers looked me in the eye when speaking. They were enthusiastic about their studies and hobbies, and were excelling in developing their talents. Many were running small businesses of their own even though they were just kids. All dressed modestly. I can't think of one exeception where the child was not years ahead academically. And...I have never met a homeschooler who was obese if they were homeschooled from the beginning. In fact, I don't recall even having known a chubby one.

In contrast, the government schooled kids had that 20 degree off centered stare when I spoke to them. Their responses were sullen nods or monosyllabic grunts. The teens were covered with tats and piercings. Although there were a few exceptions to this, there were not many.

Is it in the best interest of the “education-industrial-complex” to have medicated and infantile children who lack self confidence, or independent self assured children? Which will lead to more jobs, more money for the unions, and more security for the Marxist government teachers who run the system? Which set of children is more easily indoctrinated in the dialectics of Marxism?

By the way,...My three homeschoolers were finished all college general requirements and Calculus III by 15. By that age two were earning their own spending money by tutoring. Another covered all his personal expenses by coaching in his sport. The two younger earned B.S. degrees in math by the age of 18. At 18 one was teaching college students as part of her graduate degree program. The oldest was **proud** to be fully independent financially and living on his own ( except for tuition) at the age of 16 through his coaching business.

JAMES TARANTO: Do Nothing, Majority Says: ObamaCare is now almost as unpopular as it is monstrous.

ERICK ERICKSON HAS THOUGHTS on What the GOP could be doing to fight Obamacare.

CAN I CALL ‘EM, OR WHAT? Back in September, noting a continuing pattern of White House incompetence, I predicted: “Expect this to play out in thumbsucker columns on whether America is ‘ungovernable.’”

And, right on cue, here’s Matthew Yglesias: “The smarter elements in Washington DC are starting to pick up on the fact that it’s not tactical errors on the part of the president that make it hard to get things done, it’s the fact that the country has become ungovernable.”

Funny, that dumb cowboy Bush seemed to get a lot done with fewer votes in Congress. . . .

Plus, from the comments: “There have been no major institutional changes in the United States government in recent history that have caused it to ‘become ungovernable.’ There just isn’t enough political support to enact various news laws and policies that you favor. Tough. If you hadn’t become seduced by the delusion that Obama is a ‘progressive’ and that last year’s election represented some kind of historic realignment in favor of ‘progressive’ policies you might have seen this coming.”

Or, as Ed Morrissey noted a while ago: “Who could have warned us that a man who served seven years in the state legislature and three years in the Senate would not have been prepared for the toughest executive position in the Free World? We did. Repeatedly. So did John McCain, and for that matter, so did Hillary Clinton.”

UPDATE: Moe Lane says Matt and I are both right. “The country is indeed ungovernable. …By Democrats.”

ANOTHER UPDATE: A reader emails: “What I appreciate especially is how Matthew notes that the smarter elements are starting to pick up on some observation of his…”

MORE: Ed Morrissey offers some fresh thoughts.

Plus, reader Zachary Terry writes: “That silly, silly Constitution. It always seems to get in the way. In all seriousness, though, wasn’t the United States intended to be relatively ‘ungoverned?’ Why is it not surprising that blatant deviation from the intended structure and function of our national government has led to this quandary?”

Can we get a T-Shirt that says Proudly Ungovernable Since 1776?

Me, I can hardly wait until Palin debates Teleprompter Jesus. He'll end up like the moose: next to the mashed potatoes.

336 I am beginning to like the cut of her jib.  Ronald Reagan was often called a happy warrior.  Sarah is also deserving of that appellation.  That is what it will take to put the country back together after Obama is through trying to tear it down while only succeeding in tearing it asunder.

The fact that the media loathes her and thinks she is barely fit to live outside of an assisted living environment makes me think she might be up to taking Reagan's mantle.  We will have to see what her policy prescriptions are in detail before knowing for sure but she certainly has the leadership qualities and she is a much deeper thinker than Obama.  Obama's one defining characteristic is that he thinks and thinks about everything but understands nothing.  He is basically too stupid to form a coherent opinion so he ends up voting present or trying to split the difference.

Sarah says a lot in a few words.  Obama says nothing in many, many words.  All socialists have that disease because it takes longer to tell a convincing lie than it does to tell the truth.

The Best Kept Secret in Radio Communication

This is a good read from a new (to me) blog.
http://www.itstactical.com/2009/08/26/the-best-kept-secret-in-radio-communication/
Quote:

MURS stands for Multi User Radio Service, and is one of the best kept secrets in personal and family radio communications.

Formerly available only for business communications, the FCC has kept five MURS frequencies license-free and open for public use since 2000.

Handheld radios broadcasting on MURS frequencies will experience a range of two miles to eight miles depending on terrain and obstructions, while MURS Base Stations can reach up to 20 miles.

The stipulations for MURS use provided by the FCC restrict any transmitter in excess of two watts, but any type of antenna is allowed as long as the tower height (with antenna) is no greater than 60 feet high.

Warmers Demand Free Energy, More $$$

December 12th, 2009

From the Agence France-Presse:

Global protests demand action on climate change

by Richard Ingham

December 12, 2009

COPENHAGEN (AFP) – Hundreds of thousands of activists across the world on Saturday cranked up the heat on the problem-plagued UN climate talks in a bid to press for action instead of words.

With the main rally in Copenhagen, the centre of the Danish capital was in virtual lockdown for the six-kilometer (four-mile) march that would take green and anti-capitalist demonstrators to the UN conference venue.

Police said around 30,000 people had gathered for the rally, many wearing sky blue or carrying blue umbrellas to represent the ‘wave of people power’ at the call of environmental campaigners Friends of the Earth.

Nigerian Nnimmo Bassey, chair of Friends of the Earth International, said: "We cannot allow carbon traders to damage the world. There is no such thing as clean coal or clean crude. Leave the oil in the soil, leave the coal in the hole.

"To those who want to pollute at home and plant a tree somewhere we say no," he added.

Within the Bella Center congress hall, Nobel prizewinner Archbishop Desmond Tutu was to lead children in creating "a sea of candles" representing a call from generations imperilled [sic] by climate change.

The head of the Nobel-winning UN panel of climate scientists warned on Saturday that failure would deal a heavy blow to the nation-state system.

Rajendra Pachauri, chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), said the talks were "an important test" of whether nations could join together to fight a common threat…

If all goes well, the 194-nation conference under the UN’s Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will wrap up on Friday with a historic deal sealed by more than 110 heads of state and government.

It would commit major economies to actions that would curb their carbon emissions and set up a financial machine to generate hundreds of billions in dollars for poor countries most exposed to the ravages of climate change

Isn’t it nice to see objective journalism at work?

The way we see it, “if all goes well” Copenhagen will be a complete failure. But the AFP has a different agenda from us.

And speaking of agendas, look at this cast of characters.

They are the usual anti-capitalist malcontents and shakedown artists. Some of them have the Nobel Peace Prizes to prove it.

‘Climate Change’ is just the latest hobby horse they will ride to their communist utopia – and, of course, untold riches.

Here is a little background on Friends of the Earth from Discover The Networks:

Friends Of The Earth

Friends of the Earth has opposed, for ecological reasons, a variety of projects that would have benefited the economic and social development of Third World countries. For example, FOE blocked the construction of the Arun Dam in Nepal, a poor nation whose inhabitants still live without electricity.  FOE blocked Shell’s efforts to build gas and pipeline facilities in Nigeria, where increasing poverty has encouraged the growth of Islamic fundamentalism. And FOE has opposed the distribution of genetically modified foods that could, because of their higher yield, alleviate the dangers of famine in Third World countries.

FOE activism has also helped render millions of U.S. land acres off-limits to energy exploration, from initiatives to keep American industries from accessing the oil available in northern Alaska, to the banning of gas and coal exploration in a 1.7 million-acre tract in Utah. Another of FOE’s self-described success stories was the 1982 ban on whaling in the waters around Iceland, Japan, and Scandinavia – a ban that resulted in a sudden rise in the population of minke and other whales, coupled with a decline in salmon and cod harvests

The organization sued the Small Business Administration (SBA) for "fueling urban sprawl." The SBA had provided some $45 billion for construction and the expansion of businesses, but FOE contended that such developments would lead to air and water pollution, loss of forest cover, and traffic congestion. It won a judgement against the SBA.

In 2003 Friends of the Earth ran a series of full-page ads in USA Today and The New York Times charging the Bush administration with laying waste to the natural environment. In addition, FOE distributed more than 1.3 million copies of a brochure titled The Bush Administration: A Chronology of Environmental Destruction. That same year, FOE filed a second major lawsuit to force the Environmental Protection Agency to further "regulate carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases as air pollutants and contributors to global warming."

FOE was a signatory to an April 2001 petition, presented to the Chairman of the United Nations Commission for Sustainable Development, opposing further development of nuclear technologies. In addition, the International chapter of FOE signed a petition of so-called "civil society" organizations that opposed globalization and "any effort to expand the powers of the World Trade Organization (WTO) through a new comprehensive round of trade liberalization." FOE also endorsed a 2003 "Our World is Not for Sale" campaign similarly condemning the WTO.

A member organization of the United for Peace and Justice anti-war coalition, FOE endorsed a May 1, 2003 document titled "10 Reasons Environmentalists Oppose an Attack on Iraq," which was published by Environmentalists Against War

Big surprise, huh?

Obama's Geothermal Pipe Dream

—Gabriel Malor

The Obama Administration (with an assist from Professor Al "Millions of Degrees" Gore) trumpeted the benefits of green geothermal energy and then spent millions. What happened? The same thing that always happens when environmental zealots have to deal with the real world:

The company in charge of a California project to extract vast amounts of renewable energy from deep, hot bedrock has removed its drill rig and informed federal officials that the government project will be abandoned.

The project by the company, AltaRock Energy, was the Obama administration’s first major test of geothermal energy as a significant alternative to fossil fuels and the project was being financed with federal Department of Energy money at a site about 100 miles north of San Francisco called the Geysers.

But on Friday, the Energy Department said that AltaRock had given notice this week that “it will not be continuing work at the Geysers” as part of the agency’s geothermal development program.

It turns out that there are substantial difficulties involved with this type of geothermal tech. And not just mechanical. Apparently it can cause earthquakes.

Geothermal enthusiasts asserted that drilling miles into hard rock, as required by the technique, could be done quickly and economically with small improvements in existing methods, Professor Schrag said. “What we’ve discovered is that it’s harder to make those improvements than some people believed,” he added.

In fact, AltaRock immediately ran into snags with its drilling, repeatedly snapping off bits in shallow formations called caprock. The project’s safety was also under review at the Energy Department after federal officials said the company had not been entirely forthcoming about the earthquakes produced in Basel in making the case for the Geysers project.

AltaRock was also given $25 million to develop another geothermal site in Oregon. But nobody seems to know what's going on there:

Not even the power agency has been informed of AltaRock’s ultimate intentions at the site, said Murray Grande, who is in charge of geothermal facilities for the agency.

“They just probably gave up, but we don’t know,” Mr. Grande said. “We have nothing official from them at all.”

There's that famed Obama Administration transparency to go with its proclaimed devotion to green technology.

Can’t Hide the Decline: Obama Hits New Polling Lows.

UPDATE: Even the DailyKos tracking poll is looking grimmer.

Jim Hoft

This is awful news for the radical leftist in the White House…
Barack Obama’s presidential approval index number has dropped to -19.
Obama has dropped a stunning 49 points in less than one year.
obama socialist
In less than a year Obama has lost the independents. Only 21% strongly support his radical agenda while 49% of independents strongly disapprove.
Rasmussen reported:

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday shows that 23% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty-two percent (42%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -19.

Today is the second straight day that Obama’s Approval Index rating has fallen to a new low. Prior to the past two days, the Approval Index had never fallen below -15 during Obama’s time in office (see trends).

The 23% who Strongly Approve matches the lowest level of enthusiasm yet recorded. Just 41% of Democrats Strongly Approve while 69% of Republicans Strongly Disapprove. Among voters not affiliated with either major party, 21% Strongly Approve and 49% Strongly Disapprove.

Real Clear Politics has more on Obama’s decline.

Not just synonyms anymore!

Europes top police body Europol, the closest thing that European Union has to the American Fbi, has exposed a massive fraud with the unions official market in carbon credits, the Emission Trading System.

The fraud is costing tax payers in a handful of European countries more than five billion euro – 7 billion dollars – and raises doubts about the effectiveness of carbon trading as a measure to curb emissions.

Europol director Rob Wainwright issued the following statement:
These criminal activities endanger the credibility of the European Union Emission Trading System and lead to the loss of significant tax revenue for governments.

Police authorities in Belgium, Denmark, France, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom have worked together in what Europol calls a process to identify and disrupt the organised criminal structures behind these fraud schemes.

Numbers Not Adding Up For Senate Democrats On Health Care Reform.

Obama: I'm so awesome, I'll just grade myself. Hey look, I got a B+

—Purple Avenger

Hubris

President Barack Obama, in an interview that aired Sunday, gave himself "a good solid B-plus" grade for his first year in office.

Speaking with fellow Chicagoan Oprah Winfrey, the president claimed progress on economic and international fronts....

The number of households getting food stamps up by 3M in the period June 08 through June 09
...More than 35 million low-income Americans (16 million households) received federal Food Stamp/SNAP benefits in June 2009, an increase over the 13 million households that received assistance in June 2008. Congress allocated $54 billion for the program in 2009, up from $39 billion last year, to cover the growing number of eligible families...
USDA web site prefers to keep pitching the old 08 numbers.

Meanwhile, the official numbers don't apparently reflect the number of people who are in fact eligible for food stamps.
...Two states — Wyoming and California — had fewer than 50 percent of those eligible enrolled to receive food stamps. Many of the states that struggled were among the most populous, including New York, where 61 percent of eligible citizens participated; Florida, where 57 percent participated; and Texas, where 55 percent were enrolled...
Approval Index -19.

Rasmussen: Obama Sinks to New Low

—Gabriel Malor

Before yesterday the Approval Index had never been below -15. Yesterday it dropped to -16. Today he's at -19.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday shows that 23% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty-two percent (42%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -19.

[...]

[...]

Among those who consider fiscal policy issues the most important, just 1% Strongly Approve and 81% Strongly Disapprove.

The President’s Approval Index rating is -2 among voters under 30 and -29 among senior citizens. From an income perspective, the President’s ratings are weakest among those who earn $40,000 to $100,000 annually.

I'm trying to figure out what happened in the last four days to turn off so many more people. The major nets have had all Tiger all the time. The only thing I can think of is the vague connection folks have between the President and the imminent unpopular climate change talks in Copenhagen.

Is it a delayed reaction to the Afghanistan speech?

Is it just Obama fatigue?

Again, it's Slu's. Thanks to commenter YIKES!

3 Tiger may have something to do with it, actually. The collapse of the Tiger PR machine, from which 0bama borrowed so much, might be making folks wonder what is really behind the curtain.

12 It's interesting how nonlinear the process of disillusionment is.  What we are seeing now is the tipping point between "I voted for this guy and I don't want to admit what a sucker I was, so I'll keep praising him", to "I don't want to be the last one defending this bozo, so I'll turn on him now and start attacking those who still are".

16 The Climategate emails are doing damage, too.

People can see the emails and see how the MSM is a pack of lying hyenas.

Massive Winter storms following a cool Summer coupled with a Climategate and Copenhagen crap penetrates even the densest of skulls.

56

yes, I agree with the commentor above, also people are realising that lies about Climategate, and now the EPA is going to act like a dictator, and we are giving contitutional rights to terrorists who want to hurt the citizens of that country they are trying to destroy.

And then the death-care, serisouly, jailing people for not buying the crap they want to force us to?

19 who knew that being the Hip Prez was tough? Oh yeah, us.

21 It doesn't matter what the major nets have on.  People can...and are....tuning them out (seen their ratings lately?  I rest my case.)  They can go on the Internet, find out what the media doesn't or won't tell them, and make up their own minds.  Climategate isn't going away, and health care is tanking, even though the Legacy Media is in full damage control mode.

They can also see their families, friends and neighbors out of work...or hoping that they don't lose their jobs, look at how the value of their houses and 401k's have gone down, and see local stores and businesses closing.  The talking heads can try and spin it all they want, but it only works to a point.

The only thing I can compare it to is when I was in the former Soviet Union in 1988-1989.

103 Hmmmmm.

From personal experience with some friends:

1. It's the end of the year.  Time for reflection, contemplation and scoring Obama.  Common wisdom had it that many people gave Obama a year to prove himself, end of year coming up, proof of incompetence is the only offering around.

2. End of year coming up and people are starting to consider that the past year has felt like 8 years ... and we've got 3 actual more years to go.  People are going "WTF!?  Three more years of this crap!??".

3. The whole "criticize Obama and you're a racist." has coupled with "criticize healthcare reform and you're a racist *and* a proponent of slavery" to result in "F*ck this crap!".

23 Sarah Palin, too, is making a difference.

She was cheered in LA.

Her book is selling like waffles.

We Don't Need No Stinking Earthquake Generators

It does my taxpayer's heart good to know that governments all over the planet are siphoning wealth from those who produce the reliable energy that's keeping tens of thousands from freezing to death on this frigid December night, just so they can piss it away on renewable utter failure.

The company in charge of a California project to extract vast amounts of renewable energy from deep, hot bedrock has removed its drill rig and informed federal officials that the government project will be abandoned.

A method of tapping energy from bedrock has been linked to increased earthquake activity.

I like Iowahawk's take on this:

The initial controversy about this result was raised by MacIntyre and McKittrick (MM) who noted the backcasts of Mann's reconstructed temperatures didn't reproduce the amplitude of the Medieval "warm period" or the subsequent "little ice age" that previous research had estimated.
. . .
They published a couple papers suggesting the flat reconstructed historical temperatures were artifacts of Mann's selection of a time frame for extracting principle components (see step 1 above), which artificially suppressed the variation in the temperature backcasts.
. . .
This artifact explanation was largely confirmed by George Mason U statistician EJ Wegman (methods editor for JASA), who blistered Mann's model in a 2006 report commissioned by the Congressional Energy & Commerce committee. Amusingly, Wegman showed that replacing Mann's principle components estimates with repeated samples of random white noise continued to produce the same hockey stick shape.

It doesn't get more funny than this:

Understanding the carbon credit scam . . . before it implodes.

"The head of the Asian Development Bank (ADP), Haruhiko Kuroda, warned governments that a failure to reach a climate deal in Copenhagen could lead to a collapse of the carbon market, which would hit efforts to deal with climate change make carbon traders very rich.

It helps of course to know that Mr Kuroda is best known in greenie circles for setting up the ADB Advisory Group on Climate Change – chaired by millionaire businessman Rajendra K. Pachauri, part-time chairman of the IPCC.

An interesting member of that Group is Dr Klaus Toepfer, Founding Director, Institute for Advanced Studies Climate, Earth System and Sustainability Sciences and former executive director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). And it was UNEP, of course, which set up the IPCC - which now has as its part-time chairman millionaire businessman Rajendra K. Pachauri.

One other member is professor Hironori Hamanaka, Chair, Board of Directors, Institute of Global Environmental Strategies (IGES). The IGES claims to be "a research institute that conducts pragmatic and innovative strategic policy research to support sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region." It will come as no surprise, therefore, to learn that the organisation works very closely with TERI, whose Director-General is millionaire businessman Rajendra K. Pachauri.

Yet another is Ms Huguette Labelle, also a Board Member of the UN Global Compact organisation, the very same UN to which millionaire businessman Rajendra K. Pachauri belongs. Hilariously, Ms Labelle is Chair of Transparency International, the global civil society organisation "leading the fight against corruption." TI's mission "is to create change towards a world free of corruption."

The Board also includes professor Jeffrey D. Sachs, Director, The Earth Institute at Columbia University. This is the same Earth Institute which set up the Climate-Risk Center, inviting millionaire businessman Rajendra K. Pachauri to become its first Board Chairman."

Dems Point Fingers at WH, Timid Incumbents (Obama Becoming "Politically Radioactive")

“The consultant, though, warned that Obama could be “politically radioactive” by next year.”

Following the 2004 elections, the dems started hammering away at Bush every day.

Bush’s wars, Bush’s economy and GOP corruption. They kept it simple and consistent. One, two, three.

(they didn’t waste a lot of words on all their gripes)

And it worked. Bush became radioactive, by 2006 and 2008. The GOP brand lost favor.

The tendency is for the GOP to not be as organized and consistent, as the dems were. And for each GOP person to have their own take on things. And for some to sound like dull, dry accountants.

But a simple, consistent, hardhitting criticism of Obama will pave the way for gains in 2010.

America’s Two Unconstitutional Presidents

It’s about “natural born” status.

It is entirely possible to be a citizen of the United States, while not being a “natural born” citizen.

Example A: Arnold Schwarzenegger is a citizen. He became a citizen as a result of a process — naturalization — he is not a “natural born” citizen.

Example B: An anchor baby — becomes a citizen by virtue of being born in the United States of America — that baby is a “native born” citizen.

To be a “natural born” citizen, the citizen must have been born in the United States of America, the child of TWO US citizen parents.

Here is the law, its evolution and applicable caselaw:

http://www.theobamafile.com/ObamaNaturalBorn.htm

Barack Obama, himself, signed a Senate resolution that affirms that “if you are born of American parents, you are naturally a natural-born American citizen.” Parents — two — more than one:

http://www.theobamafile.com/ObamaNaturalBorn.htm#LeahyResolution

On Obama’s “Fight the Smears” website, Obama’s campaign correctly identifies Obama as a “native born” citizen:

Copenhagen summit has biggest-ever carbon footprint: report

There are a fair number of decent options that could come out of Copenhagen right now. Option 1 is that the greed of African kleptocrats blows up the whole thing and nothing comes out of the conference. Option 2 is that the Europeans twist 0bama to agree to pay their bill for them, which he would gladly do. That would die in the Senate where they need 67 votes to ratify it, and even if the dems pick off Snowe and the other usual RINO suspects, they won’t get seven of them. In other words, the more nauseating they make the treaty, the less likely the US Senate will eat it.

The Full Meltdown.”

This is an administration in full meltdown. Like all wounded beasts it will now become more dangerous...This qualifies as a breakthrough. If Obama was a stock there would be massive short selling starting now...For the Democrats to continue to back Health Care or Cap 'n Trade is suicidal. The election proved that with massive media assistance and bare faced fraud and thuggery abetted by local operatives in places like Missouri, Ohio and Minnesota the Left can seize an office. That does not mean that they can govern...
...as I have indicated before on this subject the support for Obama appears to decline as a step function. Once he declines by 3-5% a massive publicity effort temporarily recovers half the loss, until the process repeats. Look at the long term trend line...
...The parties are declining because the people are less dependant on old fashioned Chicago style machines for basic jobs and services. Obamaism is an effort to replicate that 100 year outdated model on a national scale. It is withering in the light of day...
...This is the true tragedy of this Administration. A narrow ideologue, fronting for a group of foreign and white economic and political special interests, seized upon the credulity and loyalty of a segment of America. The gulf has never been wider and it will take decades to heal...This will truly be a Winter of Discontent for the Democrats. The public is becoming slowly aware of the fraud behind the Global Warming schemes. The effort to seize control of Health Care has ruptured his alliances. The politicization of the War by moving the prosecutions to NY and the discontent of returning veterans with his performance are all serious blows. His overseas conduct has proven embarrassing. A series of scandals, such as the "Safe Schools Czar" who is into bizarre sexual practices advocacy, rip his credibility. More important is that the massive debt and theft of public funds give credence to fears of greater disasters to come. The recovery is not happening. The public declines to buy into Government Motors Ford is expanding market share as the cronies of BHO suffer from the appearance that doing business with them is equivalent to being a reciever of stolen goods. Businesses will not invest or hire in an atmosphere of financial amateurism and legal thuggery.

Obama's Vow to Eliminate Earmarking From Budgets: B+
Set to Sign Porked-Up Omnibus Spending Bill With Price Tag of $447 B+
True Cost of Bill: $1.1 Trillion

—Ace

He wants to be known as the deficit-fightin' president, you know.

In March, President Obama announced he would sign a $410 billion omnibus spending bill containing, according to taxpayers’ groups, 8,570 earmarks at a cost of $7.7 billion, but he said he would push to reform the earmark system. He seemed a little embarrassed about the whole deal, refusing to sign the bill in public or even to release a photograph.

...

Today Gibbs was asked if the President was contemplating vetoing the $447 billion omnibus spending bill passed by the Senate yesterday -- which has more than 5,000 earmarks – as a way of sending a signal to Democrats to stop the earmarks and wasteful spending.

...

Gibbs said he was “led to believe” President Obama would sign the bill.

In related news, the Santa Claus is coming, and he will give all the children B+'s.

Anyone remember the days, just a short 350 days ago, when the supply of paper money was not infinite?

Crazy, huh? That old-timey economics.

All seems as quaint now as listening to serials on the radio and providing for your children.

Update: Gabe tells me the major media are faking the number -- the $447 billion (with a B+) is for discretionary spending only.

The whole bill is for $1.1 trillion when you include nondiscretionary spending, which you should.

He writes:

However, the WashTimes, AP, The Hill, and Politico noted the truer $1.1 trillion number. WaPo, NYTimes, Roll Call did not.

So sorry, I B-plussed it up.

Whom to trust? The public is angry at big finance on Wall Street, whose greed and recklessness helped to cause the panic that tore holes through retirement accounts. It is angrier at a big spending, big regulating government that started the mess with its warping of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. (It is as if we asked a heroin dealer to help wean an addict off his habit.) The public was angry with Bush, and is becoming even angrier, more quickly with Obama.

The people wanted tight-fisted sobriety and smaller government as antidotes to Bush’s deficits and new entitlement programs—and got instead with Obama even more reckless spending, mega-deficits, and bigger, more inefficient government. They wanted a more articulate explanation of American foreign policy, and instead got it turned upside down

Victor Davis Hanson

This videoclip could be a metaphor for the US media and leadership, circa 2009, right down to the “being underwater” and the “stalled” and the “in the tank” parts. Except, of course, “remaking America” has pretty much stopped the laughter.

Video At Link:

Once you’re done laughing check out Maxed Out Mama’s analysis of the brick wall we’re about to hit:

We are heading straight toward a brick wall; the entire government sector is supported by the private sector. All the promises and the fine rhetoric ignore the fact that the country simply cannot support its current government structure.

(H/T Melissa Clouthier, who has to re-assure a reader of hers that Yes, Obama’s “Safe Schools Czar” really is all about promoting gay sex to all age groups, with sometimes detailed instruction.)

To quote more Hanson:

When schools cannot guarantee that their graduates are literate, know basic math, and have some sense of being American—the rights and responsibilities of citizenship—then those, rich or poor, who seek government assistance and violate the protocols will grow, and those able to pay sufficient taxes for them and who follow the letter of the law will shrink.

More on the recovery that is not adding up.

Oh, well…we may not have jobs, or a competent president, or a functional government; our students may not be able to balance a checkbook, or tell you what our constitution says; we may have people in leadership who are corrupt and spiteful, but at least everyone will know about fisting, and whether it is better to spit or swallow.

And apparently everyone will soon work for the government. They’ll need to hire a lot of folks to effectively spy on twitter and facebook.

But I am not trying to scare you, or anything

America’s Days of Confusion

by Rodan ( 149 Comments › )
Filed under American Supremacy, Barack Obama, Blogmocracy, Economy, Progressives, Tranzis at December 14th, 2009 - 8:30 am

Victor Davis Hanson, who is an intellectual giant of our times, has a really great article today. His thesis is that a malaise and disconnect has fallen on America. The Progressive elites of this nation are disconnected from the populace. They have raided our treasuries and lead us into ridiculous nation building of Islamic societies that are our natural enemies. The demands of the population are ignored as they follow some Radical Transnationalist agenda.  America is dazed and confused.

No one quite knows what is going on.

Inflation?

Interest rates are at rock-bottom levels. But banks are reluctant to lend—both afraid of shaky borrowers and loathe to get tied down with low-interest obligations if inflation roars back. “They” say inflation won’t return, but the people know that it will, since expanding the money supply by two trillion dollars per annum, as interest rates are near zero, does not seem a stable scenario.

Real Estate?

Millions of Americans are dutifully paying their under-water mortgages each month, but getting peeved when they hear of all sorts of new programs to ensure others do not. Indeed, the message seems to be that the government cares for the hyper-wealthy or the very poor, while merely talking about the middle class, as it wages war on those who seek to be rich.

No one is getting much of a return on cash in the bank. But most are still paranoid about investing  in Wall Street, given the hit that their 401(k)s took last September.

Real estate should be a good investment, but cash is scarce, and no one knows where the property bottom actually is. So those employed with income and capital are more likely paying off debt or hoarding cash for an emergency to come, than buying and hiring.

California property should be a good buy, given dramatic drops in home prices. But with 3500 upper-middle class dissatisfied leaving a week, and 2500 rather poorer arriving, it seems at some point there simply will no longer be an affluent, big-income, big-home, pay-lots-of-taxes upper stratum left.

This is a dangerous situation that VDH is describing. America appears leaderless as the Progressive elites are out for their themselves. We need real leadership and alas, there is no one on the horizon.

Let us discuss and have a brainstorming session on the points Mr. Hanson makes. Let us also discuss possible solution to the issues presented here.

Demcare crunch time: Kill the bill and start over; Update: Medicare expansion under the bus?

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 14, 2009 09:46 AM

Scroll for updates…

Sen. Joe Lieberman won’t vote for Harry Reid’s health care monstrosity. Democrat Sen. Ben Nelson is also balking.

Let’s hope they mean it:

In a surprise setback for Democratic leaders, Senator Joseph I. Lieberman, independent of Connecticut, said on Sunday that he would vote against the health care legislation in its current form.

The bill’s supporters had said earlier that they thought they had secured Mr. Lieberman’s agreement to go along with a compromise they worked out to overcome an impasse within the Democratic Party. But on Sunday, Mr. Lieberman told the Senate majority leader, Harry Reid, to scrap the idea of expanding Medicare and abandon any new government insurance plan or lose his vote.

On a separate issue, Mr. Reid tried over the weekend to concoct a compromise on abortion that would induce Senator Ben Nelson, Democrat of Nebraska, to vote for the bill. Mr. Nelson opposes abortion. Any provision that satisfies him risks alienating supporters of abortion rights. In interviews on the CBS News program “Face the Nation,” Mr. Lieberman and Mr. Nelson said the bill did not have the 60 votes it would need in the Senate.

Senate Democratic leaders, including Mr. Reid and Senator Charles E. Schumer of New York, said they had been mindful of Mr. Lieberman’s concerns in the last 10 days and were surprised when he assailed major provisions of the bill on television Sunday. He reiterated his objections in a private meeting with Mr. Reid. A Senate Democratic aide, perplexed by Mr. Lieberman’s stance, said, “It was a total flip-flop, and leaves us in a predicament as to what to do.”

Democrats are desperately trying to round up 60 votes and conclude Senate debate on the health care bill before Christmas.

Democrat Sen. Claire McCaskill says she’s waiting for the latest CBO scoring:

If the current healthcare compromise doesn’t bend the cost curve and bring down the deficit, it’s “back to the drawing board,” Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) said today. McCaskill said her vote will be determined by the Congressional Budget Office analysis of Harry Reid’s new healthcare bill. “Until we get the numbers back from the Congressional Budget Office we’re all on hold,” McCaskill told Fox News Sunday. “I have to be assured that this is going to bring down the deficit and is going to bring down healthcare costs for Missouri families.”

Democrat Sen. Dick Durbin admitted he’s “in the dark” about HarryCare even though he’s part of the leadership crusading for it.

The Hill gives a rundown of the schedule crunch as Harry Reid’s panic swells:

Reid is expected to offer a manager’s amendment that would include various changes to the healthcare bill, such as a recent compromise to replace the public option with an expansion of Medicare allowing people between the ages of 55 and 64 years old to buy coverage.

Democrats would have to file a motion to cut off a GOP filibuster of the manager’s amendment; a cloture motion on the 2,074-page Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act; and finally a motion to end debate on the underlying legislative vehicle, the Service Members Home Ownership Tax Act.

Senate Democrats also have to wait for the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) to return a cost analysis on the compromise Reid brokered to replace the public option with the Medicare expansion and a new exchange national insurance plans to be administered by the Office of Personnel Management.

“The longer the CBO takes, the less time we’ll have to go home before Christmas but we need to finish this bill by Christmas and that’s our goal,” said Durbin.

Reid’s staff have told Democratic lobbyists and allies that they plan to pass the healthcare bill by Dec. 22 or 23. But to meet that timeline, Reid would have to receive a score on his manager’s amendment by early next week and would have to begin the laborious process of filing for cloture on Wednesday.

Adding to the complicated mix, Senate Democrats also have to pass important legislation that would be attached to the Department of Defense appropriations bill, including an increase of the federal debt limit and an extension of unemployment benefits, which have begun to expire for thousands of constituents.

Filing cloture and holding a final vote on this package gives Reid one fewer day of leeway.

So, where’s the GOP leadership?

Here’s GOP Sen. Mitch McConnell:

Appearing on CBS’ “Face the Nation” Sunday, McConnell said the Democrats cannot agree on what should or should not be included in the bill, such as more restrictive language on abortion, disability insurance, a public option. or a Medicare buy-in. “It’s noteworthy that you had to have three Democrats on to explain the Democratic position,” he told “Face the Nation” host Bob Schieffer. “There are more Democratic positions than you’d find in a stack of newspapers, [and] therein lies the problem.”

McConnell also sought to dispel charges that his party are obstructionists who do not want to reform the nation’s health care system.

He cited opposition to aspects of the bill that, he claimed, would cut a half-trillion dollars from Medicare, raise taxes to subsidize health coverage for the uninsured, and increase health insurance premiums for everyone else. “I think [Democrats] are in serious trouble on this, and the core problem is the American people do not want us to pass it.”

On the matter of a Medicare buy-in, in which those without insurance age 55 and up could buy into the existing government program used by people 65 and older, McConnell said, “Everyone anticipates a lot of very sick people would buy in, and it would exacerbate the problems that Medicare has.

“What we really need to do is to stop and start over, and go step-by-step to deal with the cost issue, which is what the American people thought [health reform] this was all about.”

Kill the bill.

Declare Code Red.

No more tinkering, compromises, or pussy-footing. Stop apologizing for being “obstructionist.”

Fight.

Naked Emperor News/Breitbart TV spotlight Obama’s past statements on using Medicare expansion as the Trojan Horse for universal health care:

***

Update: White House wants Reid to deal with Lieberman. Democratic caucus summoned to WH meeting tomorrow.

Update: Hmmm. Are the Dems throwing Medicare expansion under the bus? Looks like it. For now:

Senate Democratic leaders said Monday that they were prepared to drop a proposed expansion of Medicare and make other changes in sweeping health legislation as they tried to rally their caucus in hopes of passing the bill before Christmas.

After a tense 90-minute meeting on Monday evening, Senator Max Baucus, Democrat of Montana and chairman of the Finance Committee, was asked if Democrats were likely to jettison the Medicare proposal.

“It’s looking like that’s the case,” Mr. Baucus said, indicating that the provision might be scrapped as a way of “getting support from 60 senators.”

Under the proposal, uninsured people ages 55 to 64 could purchase Medicare coverage. The Senate Democratic leader, Harry Reid of Nevada, floated the idea about 10 days ago as a way to break an intraparty impasse over his earlier proposal to create a government-run health insurance plan.

The signal from the party leadership came after the closed-door session to gauge sentiment for moving ahead with a pared-back measure that would not contain elements that liberal lawmakers had sought, particularly a public health insurance option.

Lawmakers and top aides said that the overriding view at the session held just off the Senate floor was that they had come too far in the health care debate to give up and that they should forge ahead with some legislation even if it was not all that they wanted.

After the meeting, lawmakers said they believed that chances were increased for completing a health care bill and that a final product would be a substantial improvement over the current system.

“If you compared it to the alternative, it looks good,” said Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Democrat of Rhode Island, about the prospect of moving ahead with a measure that does not have a public health insurance option. “If you compare it to the possibilities, it looks pretty sad.”

Democrats were scheduled to meet Tuesday at the White House with President Obama to discuss health care. The party meeting in the Capitol came at a crucial time since the leadership must begin taking procedural steps if Democrats hope to reach a final vote on a health care plan sometime next week.

At a brief news conference after the caucus meeting, Mr. Reid refused to answer questions. He said: “This is like a steeplechase race. The last big puddle is in front of us.”

Senator Tom Harkin, Democrat of Iowa and chairman of the health committee, appeared to be laying the groundwork for a decision to abandon the Medicare buy-in.

A lot of people connect Obama with Tiger, rightly or wrongly.

Set aside the fact that Tiger has earned his position because of his talent and accomplishments.  Forgetting that, they both are silk pillow riders who were treated with godlike reverence.

Tiger's ignominious fall reminds some of the remaining Obama edge sitters that the boy king's mystique is all a sham and that he is a manufactured creation controlled by one-world wannabe arisotcrats who could give a sh*t about anybody but themselves..

Osama was not wrong about the elites who run this country. Had Al Gore been President, Osama would have won his bet. A few minor missile strikes at sand dunes, and then “negotiations.” Obama himself wants negotiations with AQ. He’d love to have a “summit” at the White House for bin Laden.

Osama bin Laden WAS correct about the West’s elite. They WILL surrender with one big shock. They’ve been looking to surrender for decades. It is the people, who have nowhere to run to, and nowhere else to go, who will fight. Who will, eventually, if pressed hard enough with “one big shock after another” (i.e. nuking of NYC and DC, the current Jihadist dream) would respond in the way Curtis Le May did.

This has always been the case.

Tehran's nuclear trigger: The mullahs could have the bomb any day now

One Last Message

Iran: The government that says it wants to develop a nuclear program for peaceful purposes is evidently building a trigger for an atomic weapon. This is the regime that our White House wants to negotiate with.

The London Times reported Monday that it had obtained "confidential intelligence documents" that "show that Iran is working on testing a key final component of a nuclear bomb."

"The notes, from Iran's most sensitive military nuclear project, describe a four-year plan to test a neutron initiator, the component of a nuclear bomb that triggers an explosion," it said.

Foreign intelligence agencies, according to the Times, date the documents to early 2007, "four years after Iran was thought to have suspended its weapons program." These technical papers confirm the use of uranium deuteride, which, independent experts told the Times, "has no possible civilian or military use other than in a nuclear weapon."

The Obama administration came into power 11 months ago promising that it would negotiate with Tehran without preconditions. In other words, Iran would not have to shut down its nuclear program — or end any of its hostile activities — before the U.S. would sit down at the table.

This approach was criticized as naivete on the part of President Obama. But maybe he should be given credit for some insight: Even if the White House had set preconditions, Tehran would have never kept to them. It has continued pursuing atomic weapons despite a mountain of international sanctions as well as its own promises that it would cooperate with other nations concerned about its nuclear program. For seven years it has missed deadlines for complying with international demands.

Vast Majority?

Published by Gaius under Environment

You at least have to give credit to Agence France-Presse for admitting that the 'consensus' on global warming has some very credible dissenters. They try to denigrate those dissenters by marginalizing them, but they at least mention them. They at least pick up the story that a study has found that the widely used, agreed upon climate models are seriously flawed. The study, by David Douglass, John Christy, Benjamin Pearson and Fred Singer, found that the models break down - to the point of reversing symbols from positive to negative, as altitude increases. If global warming gasses were indeed the cause of the warming trend, that should not be true. Yet, there it is. AFP says this about the study - which used actual, agreed-upon data and the actual, agreed-upon models:

These experts believe that global warming is a natural phenomenon, and they point to reams of data they say support their assertions.

These conclusions are in sharp contradiction to those of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which reached its conclusions using largely similar data.

The UN body of about 3,000 experts, including several renowned US scientists, adopted a landmark report in mid-November stating that the evidence of a human role in the warming of the planet was now "unequivocal."

Retreating glaciers and loss of snow in Alpine regions, thinning Arctic summer sea ice and thawing permafrost shows that climate change is already on the march, the report said.

Carbon pollution, emitted especially by the burning of oil, gas and coal, traps heat from the Sun, thus warming the Earth's surface and inflicting changes to weather systems.

A group of US scientists however disagree, and have written an article on their views that is published in The International Journal of Climatology, a publication of Britain's Royal Meteorological Society.

"The observed pattern of warming, comparing surface and atmospheric temperature trends, doesn't show the characteristic fingerprint associated with greenhouse warming," wrote lead author David Douglas, a climate expert from the University of Rochester, in New York state.

"The inescapable conclusion is that human contribution is not significant and that observed increases in carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases make only a negligible contribution to climate warming," Douglas wrote.

Dr. Douglass' name is misspelled in the AFP article. It is actually David Douglass. I have exchanged emails with Dr. Douglass and he was kind enough to send me a copy of his paper. I reproduced a graph from that paper that shows how off the models are. They are off, rather badly, yet policy decisions are being forced based upon them. There are flies in that pot of ointment, however. Some of the much genuflected to 3,000 scientists have publicly disavowed the IPCC conclusions. There are also problems with the media-propagated stories. Take arctic ice, for example.

Even the greenies are admitting that arctic sea ice is refreezing at a rate never before seen - they have to, NASA says so.

The record melting of Arctic sea ice observed this summer and fall led to record-low levels of ice in both September and October, but a record-setting pace of re-freezing in November, according to the NASA Earth Observatory. Some 58,000 square miles of ice formed per day for 10 days in late October and early November, a new record.

But, of course, the simple fact is that the records only go back a very few years because we have only been keeping them for a few years. We have only had the technology to do so in a human lifespan or so. Before that, we had an occasional observation. Not long before that we had no data at all. Yet we are now supposed to change the world based on this minuscule amount of data.

The United Nations has proved, over and over again how utterly corrupt and utterly incompetent they  are at virtually everything they touch. Why in heaven's name are we listening to them?

Intriguingly, for such an upstanding public servant though, he is also a strategic advisor to the private equity investment firm Pegasus Capital Advisors LP, which he became in February of this year. However, this is by no means Dr Pachauri’s only foray into the world of finance. In December 2007, be became a member of the Senior Advisory Board of Siderian ventures based in San Francisco. This is a venture capital business owned by the Dutch multinational business incubator and operator in sustainable technology, Tendris Holding, itself part-owned by electronics giant Philips. It acquired a minority interest in January 2009 in order to ‘explore new business opportunities in the area of sustainability.’ As a member of the Senior Advisory Board of Siderian, Dr Pachauri is expected to provide the Fund and its portfolio companies ‘with access, standing and industry exposure at the highest level.’”

Access at the highest level, indeed.

I don’t see any contradiction in her position at all.

He is cherry picking quotes on warming trends (which may or may not have been the “scientific consensus” at the time, but are increasingly unlikely), with quotes on potential Alaskan energy strategy as a result of any moves to tax carbon.

In her postion as Governor of Alaska she would need to consider potential changes in policy on carbon initiated at the federal or global level to protect and position Alaska appropriately.

If she was concerned about warming, she has always acknowledged that climate changes over time. She “may” be less convinced of that evidence now - who wouldn’t.

The Goracle told an audience in Germany last year that “the entire North Polarized cap will disappear in 5 years.”

It wasn’t the first time he’d made the claim. Gore had been talking this nonsense for over a year already.

Today, the climatologist whose work Mr Gore was relying upon disputed the former Vice-President.
The Times Online reported:

There are many kinds of truth. Al Gore was poleaxed by an inconvenient one yesterday.

The former US Vice-President, who became an unlikely figurehead for the green movement after narrating the Oscar-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth, became entangled in a new climate change “spin” row.

Mr Gore, speaking at the Copenhagen climate change summit, stated the latest research showed that the Arctic could be completely ice-free in five years.

In his speech, Mr Gore told the conference: “These figures are fresh. Some of the models suggest to Dr [Wieslav] Maslowski that there is a 75 per cent chance that the entire north polar ice cap, during the summer months, could be completely ice-free within five to seven years.”

However, the climatologist whose work Mr Gore was relying upon dropped the former Vice-President in the water with an icy blast.

“It’s unclear to me how this figure was arrived at,” Dr Maslowski said. “I would never try to estimate likelihood at anything as exact as this.”

Mr Gore’s office later admitted that the 75 per cent figure was one used by Dr Maslowksi as a “ballpark figure” several years ago in a conversation with Mr Gore.

The embarrassing error cast another shadow over the conference after the controversy over the hacked e-mails from the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit, which appeared to suggest that scientists had manipulated data to strengthen their argument that human activities were causing global warming.

Scott Baker from Breitbart-TV.com and Co-Host of ‘The B-Cast‘ submitted a shocking report to Gateway Pundit blog back on December 4, 2009. The report detailed the reading list promoted to 7-12 grade students by Kevin Jennings’ GLSEN organization. This material has not been reported in detail at Big Government website. Remember as you read this that Kevin Jennings is today the nation’s Safe Schools Czar.

—-Warning on Content—–

I was recently approached by a team of independent researchers that I have known for some time and have come to trust. They prepared this report involving ‘Safe Schools Czar’ Kevin Jennings and the organization he founded, GLSEN, and asked that I find a way to help draw attention to what they uncovered. Knowing that Gateway Pundit has followed Kevin Jennings since his appointment, as we have on The B-Cast (here, here, and here), and on Breitbart.tv (here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here), I felt this would be an appropriate place for this report.

Warning: The following material is very explicit.

Scott Baker

Co-Founder, Breitbart.tv

Co-Host, The B-Cast

Safe Schools Czar Kevin Jennings was the founder, and for many years, Executive Director of an organization called the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN). GLSEN started essentially as Jennings’ personal project and grew to become the culmination of his life’s work. And he was chosen by President Obama to be the nation’s Safe Schools Czar primarily because he had founded and led GLSEN (scroll for bio).

GLSEN’s stated mission is to empower gay youth in the schools and to stop harassment by other students. It encourages the formation of Gay Student Alliances and condemns the use of hateful words. GLSEN also strives to influence the educational curriculum to include materials which the group believes will increase tolerance of gay students and decrease bullying. To that end, GLSEN maintains a recommended reading list of books that it claims “furthers our mission to ensure safe schools for all students.” In other words, these are the books that GLSEN’s directors think all kids should be reading: gay kids should read them to raise their self-esteem, and straight kids should read them in order to become more aware and tolerant and stop bullying gay kids. Through GLSEN’s online ordering system, called “GLSEN BookLink,” featured prominently on their Web site, teachers can buy the books to use as required classroom assignments, or students can buy them to read on their own.

According to GLSEN’s own press releases from the period during which its recommended reading list was developed, the organization’s three areas of focus were creating “educational resources, public policy agenda, [and] student organizing programs”; in other words, the reading list (chief among its “educational resources”) was of prime importance in GLSEN’s efforts to influence the American educational system.

The list is divided into three main categories: books recommended for grades K-6; books recommended for grades 7-12; and books for teachers. (The books on the list span all genres: fiction, nonfiction, memoirs, even poetry.)

Out of curiosity to see exactly what kind of books Kevin Jennings and his organization think American students should be reading in school, our team chose a handful at random from the over 100 titles on GLSEN’s grades 7-12 list, and began reading through.

What we discovered shocked us. We were flabbergasted. Rendered speechless.

We were unprepared for what we encountered. Book after book after book contained stories and anecdotes that weren’t merely X-rated and pornographic, but which featured explicit descriptions of sex acts between pre-schoolers; stories that seemed to promote and recommend child-adult sexual relationships; stories of public masturbation, anal sex in restrooms, affairs between students and teachers, five-year-olds playing sex games, semen flying through the air. One memoir even praised becoming a prostitute as a way to increase one’s self-esteem. Above all, the books seemed to have less to do with promoting tolerance than with an unabashed attempt to indoctrinate students into a hyper-sexualized worldview.

We knew that unless we carefully documented what we were reading, the public would have a hard time accepting it. Mere descriptions on our part could not convey the emotional gut reaction one gets when seeing what Kevin Jennings wants kids to read as school assignments. So we began scanning pages from each of the books, and then made exact transcriptions of the relevant passages on each page.

Today we will focus on one of GLSEN’s recommended books for 7 to 12 graders–
Reflections of a Rock Lobster: A Story About Growing up Gay
This book is promoted at the GLSEN website and can be purchased there.
rock lobster

This book covers group sex between first graders and makes it sound completely normal.
Reflections of a Rock Lobster – Page 13

(At the age of six, the author frequently performed fellatio on his fellow first-graders in the school restroom, part of a “busy homosexual childhood.”)

My sexual exploits with my neighborhood playmates continued. I lived a busy homosexual childhood, somehow managing to avoid venereal disease through all my toddler years. By first grade I was sexually active with many friends. In fact, a small group of us regularly met in the grammar school lavatory to perform fellatio on one another. A typical week’s schedule would be Aaron and Michael on Monday during lunch; Michael and Johnny on Tuesday after school; Fred and Timmy at noon Wednesday; Aaron and Timmy after school on Thursday. None of us ever got caught, but we never worried about it anyway. We all understood that what we were doing was not to be discussed freely with adults but we viewed it as a fun sort of confidential activity. None of us had any guilty feelings about it; we figured everyone did it. Why shouldn’t they?

This is just one of the books promoted by the Kevin Jennings’ GLSEN organization.
Today Kevin Jennings is Barack Obama’s Safe School Czar.

FOX News reported on Kevin Jennings support of these pornographic books on Monday.

Gay Patriot wonders how the media would handle a similar story if the president were a Republican?

And, Verum Serum has the latest on GLSEN’s comic book for kids.

There is more to come.

10 Global Warming Doomsday Predictions

Have you ever seen one of those wild-eyed people with a sandwich board around his neck standing on the corner, screeching incoherently about how the end of the world is coming? Now, what if those people were insisting that you were really the crazy one? What if the newspapers agreed with them and the politicians wanted to pass taxes and spend hundreds of billions to implement their ideas? Sound too unbelievable to be true? Well, guess what? It's happening.

Global warming alarmists are regularly prophesying about doomsday scenarios -- except they're doing it in newspapers and from the stages of swanky resorts where they've flown in their private jets. Unlike the old school soothsayers, the Al Gore's of the world have figured out how to turn doom-mongering into a multi-billion dollar industry.

As you read these global warming predictions, visions, prophecies, fantasies, whatever you want to call them, ask yourself a question: if this is based on science, why do we have these huge differences in scenarios and dates? It's almost as if these people are all just pulling numbers out of their hats and putting them out there instead of basing their projections on any sort of real scientific evidence.

1) At the first Earth Day celebration, in 1969, environmentalist Nigel Calder warned, “The threat of a new ice age must now stand alongside nuclear war as a likely source of wholesale death and misery for mankind.”

2) The world has been chilling sharply for about twenty years. If present trends continue, the world will be about four degrees colder for the global mean temperature in 1990, but eleven degrees colder in the year 2000. This is about twice what it would take to put us into an ice age. -- Kenneth Watt, Ecologist

3) A high-priority government report warns of climate change that will lead to floods and starvation. ‘Leading climatologists’ speak of a ‘detrimental global climatic change,’ threatening ‘the stability of most nations.’ The scenario is eerily familiar although the document — never made public before — dates from 1974. But here’s the difference: it was written to respond to the threat of global cooling, not warming. And yes, it even mentions a ‘consensus’ among scientists. -- Maurizio Morabito

Whoops! Those were all about global cooling, not global warming. My mistake. You see, that was the fashionable doomsday story for alarmists to go on about back in the early seventies and it essentially worked the same way. Mankind is causing the earth to cool and scientists agree we're all going to die! Now, it's mankind is causing earth to warm and scientists agree we're all going to die! See? It's very easy to get those two confused. Now, back to your regularly scheduled doomsday prophecies:

4) According to His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, we only have 96 months left to save the planet.

I'm impressed. 96 months. Not 95. Not 97. July 2017. Put it in your diary. Usually the warm-mongers stick to the same old drone that we only have 10 years left to save the planet. Nice round number. Former Vice President Al Gore said we only have 10 years left 3 1/2 years ago, which makes him technically more of a pessimist than the Prince of Wales. Al's betting Armageddon kicks in January 2016 -- unless he's just peddling glib generalities. -- Mark Steyn

5) ABC Science Show presenter Robyn Williams panics about global warming:

Andrew Bolt: I ask you, Robyn, 100 metres [of sea level rises] in the next century...do you really think that?

Robyn Williams: It is possible, yes.

It is possible, no, actually.

Now Glaciologist Nikolai Osokin of the Russian Academy of Science reassures Williams about global warming:

If all ice on the earth melted, the level of the oceans would rise by 64 meters. Many coastal cities would be under water, and so would the Netherlands, a significant part of which lies below sea level. However, the Dutch and the rest of the planet may rest assured: this hypothetical catastrophe could not take place anytime within the next thousand years

6) The UK faces a "catastrophe" of floods, droughts and killer heatwaves if world leaders fail to agree to a deal on climate change, the prime minister has warned.

Gordon Brown said negotiators had 50 days to save the world from global warming and break the "impasse."

He told the Major Economies Forum in London, which brings together 17 of the world's biggest greenhouse gas-emitting countries, there was "no plan B". -- October 19, 2009

7) Meanwhile, the Director of the Goddard Institute, James Hansen, recently sent a letter to President Obama saying that Obama has “only four years left to save the earth” from “runaway warming.” He told the London Observer in February that “The trains carrying coal to power plants are death trains. Coal-fired power plants are factories of death.” Hansen maintains that recent warming has pushed the planet close to a “tipping point” for runaway warming. What recent warming? Three hundredths of a degree C over 30 years, with temperatures still declining, doesn’t seem worth ruining the world’s economies. -- April 20, 2009

8) While doing research 12 or 13 years ago, I met (James) Hansen, the scientist who in 1988 predicted the greenhouse effect before Congress. I went over to the window with him and looked out on Broadway in New York City and said, “If what you’re saying about the greenhouse effect is true, is anything going to look different down there in 20 years?” He looked for a while and was quiet and didn’t say anything for a couple seconds. Then he said, “Well, there will be more traffic.” I, of course, didn’t think he heard the question right. Then he explained, “The West Side Highway [which runs along the Hudson River] will be under water. And there will be tape across the windows across the street because of high winds. And the same birds won’t be there. The trees in the median strip will change.” Then he said, “There will be more police cars.” Why? “Well, you know what happens to crime when the heat goes up.”

And so far, over the last 10 years, we’ve had 10 of the hottest years on record.

Didn’t he also say that restaurants would have signs in their windows that read, “Water by request only.”

Under the greenhouse effect, extreme weather increases. Depending on where you are in terms of the hydrological cycle, you get more of whatever you’re prone to get. New York can get droughts, the droughts can get more severe and you’ll have signs in restaurants saying “Water by request only.”

When did he say this will happen?

Within 20 or 30 years. And remember we had this conversation in 1988 or 1989. -- Author Rob Reiss talks with Salon's Suzy Hansen

9) A record loss of sea ice in the Arctic this summer has convinced scientists that the northern hemisphere may have crossed a critical threshold beyond which the climate may never recover. Scientists fear that the Arctic has now entered an irreversible phase of warming which will accelerate the loss of the polar sea ice that has helped to keep the climate stable for thousands of years.

They believe global warming is melting Arctic ice so rapidly that the region is beginning to absorb more heat from the sun, causing the ice to melt still further and so reinforcing a vicious cycle of melting and heating.

The greatest fear is that the Arctic has reached a "tipping point" beyond which nothing can reverse the continual loss of sea ice and with it the massive land glaciers of Greenland, which will raise sea levels dramatically. -- Friday, 16 September 2005

10) According to July 5, 1989, article in the Miami Herald, the then-director of the New York office of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), Noel Brown, warned of a “10-year window of opportunity to solve” global warming. According to the 1989 article, “A senior U.N. environmental official says entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed by the year 2000. Coastal flooding and crop failures would create an exodus of ‘eco-refugees,’ threatening political chaos.”

So, wait a second: are we in the middle of an ice age or is the globe afire? Are we passing the point of no return now, is it happening in 2017, did it happen in 2005, or was the UN right that it happened in 1999? Why is there a difference? How did they come up with these numbers in the first place? Do the global warming alarmists, some of whom used to be global cooling alarmists, understand why they were wrong before? Maybe a little less uncritical acceptance of what these people are saying and a lot more skepticism might be order at this point

A commenter graham, left this point on one of the first posts done  at tAV.  The post it was left on was in the pre-Mann days well before my suspicions of the corruption of the IPCC were confirmed:

There is a lot of money to be made if we restructure our societal infrastructure, for example toward an regionally focused system of energy production based in solar, wind, wave power, etc.  Isn’t this a good thing?  Doesn’t our country support innovation and growth?  It seems to me the primary threat of change is to the powers that be in oil, coal, etc.

Graham asks, “Isn’t this a good thing?”

If anyone has an hour to spare, some conservative, right-thinking science (not in the political sense) : CERN particle physicist Jason Kirby, head of the CLOUD experiment at CERN, goes through the evidence linking the Sun, galactic cosmic rays and variations of the Earth’s temperature over timescales of decades, centuries, and millenia to 500 million years.

This prediction was originally submitted and rejected for publication in 2005 (Sunspots May Vanish by 2015), but has been coming true ever since. The earth appears to be headed toward a period of dramatic cooling...

Climat Change Zealots: Not Just Wrong, But Pure Evil, Too

Does Avoidance of ClimateGate Reporting Represent MSM Suicide?

100 Reasons Why Climate Change Is NOT MAN-MADE

Jim McConalogue of the European Foundation, wrote a handy report giving 100 Reasons why Climate change comes from nature not from man.

“This demonstrates how tenuous, improper and indeed false the scientific and political claims are for man-made global warming, from claims that climate change can be controlled by human activity to the proposition that CO2 emissions represent a severe threat to our way of life, when in fact there is little evidence to support any of these claims," said McConalogue

He warns the Copenhagen climate summit was likely to lead to “nonsensical targets” to reduce emissions, which would result in a “burdensome regulatory agenda”, After Copenhagen, voters “will see what travesty has been done in their name, as foolish politicians and indifferent industry associations have engulfed their countries in emissions legislation”.

Below are McConalogue's 100 reasons why climate change is natural and not man-made:

San Francisco The Worst Run City in the U.S. “It’s time to face facts: San Francisco is spectacularly mismanaged and arguably the worst-run big city in America. This year’s city budget is an astonishing $6.6 billion — more than twice the budget for the entire state of Idaho — for roughly 800,000 residents. Yet despite that stratospheric amount, San Francisco can’t point to progress on many of the social issues it spends liberally to tackle — and no one is made to answer when the city comes up short.”

I have never experienced this kind of treatment in the United States, not even in the Southern states, which so many of my gay friends here in Norway are so scared to visit, because they think those states are so dangerous for gay people.”

Democrat introduces SEIU-backed illegal alien amnesty bill

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 15, 2009 11:15 AM

The SEIU needs more dues-paying members.

The open-borders lobby needs something to do.

Voila! Meet the new illegal alien shamnesty push via the Washington Times:

Democrats on Tuesday begin their new push for an immigration bill, hamstrung by the image of legalizing millions of illegal immigrant workers at a time when the unemployment rate stands at 10 percent — more than twice what it was the last time Congress tried to act.

“It certainly will confuse the debate a lot more, but at the end of the day what we have to understand is fixing this system will be good for American workers,” said Eliseo Medina, executive vice president of the Service Employees International Union, which is one of the major advocates for legalizing illegal immigrant workers.

Rep. Luis V. Gutierrez, the Illinois Democrat who has taken over leadership on the issue after the death of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, Massachusetts Democrat, plans to introduce an immigration legalization bill Tuesday, and backers are planning a strategy to avoid repeats of the failed attempts of 2006 and 2007.

The bill would torpedo the joint federal-local deportation program known as 287(g) and opposes beefing up our land borders with more Border Patrol agents or fencing.

SEIU has been lobbying for illegal alien amnesty as a massive membership booster all year. In May, the Purple Shirts held a pro-illegal immigration rally from Malcolm X Park to the White House to put pressure on homeland security officials to call off workplace raids (not that Janet Napolitano needed any convincing):

Hopenchangen: "Kevin, Gavin, Mike, It's Seth again."

Since we last checked in on our favourite self-vindicating Climategate character, Associated Press "science" writer Seth Borenstein has taken to hanging out with the cool kids in Copenhagen;

With U.N. security letting in only those cleared last week, hundreds of accredited delegates, journalists and NGO representatives were left to stand for hours in near-freezing temperatures before being let through. "It was crazy," AP's Seth Borenstein said. "You couldn't leave the line. You couldn't go to the bathroom, you couldn't eat. Then snowflakes started falling. One woman even said, 'if lightning strikes me, would they take me out of line?'"

People started handing out food -- one gave out tangerines, another croissants. A man screamed "I don't need food. I need socks! I'm freezing my ass off out here." At one point, a U.N. official announced the wait would be longer, prompting the crowd to boo and chant "Let Us In!" [...]

Seth himself stepped into the line at 7:55 a.m. and was through at 3:15 p.m., but only after another AP reporter, John Heilprin, "saved my bacon" by persuading a U.N. security guard to go out and fetch him. "John was afraid to go out himself in case they wouldn't let him back in ... the first thing I did when I saw him was give him a big hug. I have never been so grateful to be indoors." Seth's neighbors in line? "Oh they're still out there."

And just in the gloal warming nick of time!

Indeed - "This entire circus would be funnier if not for what is at stake: trillions of dollars in regulatory actions and billions of dollars in aid to developing nations. And, if there were to be some miracle and nations in attendance did sign an agreement, who would be in charge of monitoring all these agreed to carbon reductions and oversight of all that development aid? The same entity that can’t even figure out that 45,000 people won’t into a 15,000 person building; the United Nations."

From the video -

How many of you have seen the draft Copenhagen Treaty? How many of you have see it in the mainstream media? No, not one. There is your problem. That treaty says there is going to be a world government; its going to have powers of taxation equivalent to half of the US Defense budget every year for the US, and everywhere else. It’s going to have powers to close down all patent rights, it’s going to have powers to close down all free markets and regulate them by public policy and not by freedoms. All these points are in that treaty.

This is what Al Gore wants for us. It is what Barack Obama wants for us, and has had his minions at EPA push through as regulation. This is what those in Congress pushing Cap-and-Trade legislation want for us.

We say NO! Because it is all based upon a fundamental LIE.

New training video: How to slit throats

A new video released by the Christian Action Network shows Muslim women at a compound in New York state practicing throat-slitting techniques and assault weapons attacks.

The video was distributed by the makers of the movie "Homegrown Jihad: The Terrorist Camps Around the U.S.," which documents how a jihadist group has developed dozens of training camps across the nation.

WND reported at the time how Jamaat ul-Fuqra has built 35 compounds – mostly in the northeastern corridor of the U.S.

Now the organization has posted on YouTube a "chilling" training video provided to CAN by an unnamed law enforcement source about the Muslims of America headquarters in Hancock, New York.

Muslims of America reportedly is the name Jamaat ul-Fuqra, believed to have been involved in the beheading of reporter Daniel Pearl, uses in the U.S.

Zogby: Fewer Americans worried by climate change: survey

Morning Bell: They Can’t Even Run A Conference, Let Alone the Global Economy ( Copenhagen follies)

The climate treaty negotiations inside Copenhagen’s Bella Center at the United Nations Climate Change Conference ground to a halt yesterday when the G-77, the largest group of developing nations, walked out. These poorer nations demanded that richer nations sign a treaty that includes a large transfer of wealth to the developing world to compensate for the developed world’s historical contribution to global warming. The G-77 countries ended their walkout after less than two hours, perhaps because global warming has had no apparent impact on December Copenhagen temperatures.

Stuck out in the cold trying to get into the convention center that the developing countries had left were thousands of registered participants including delegations from universities, trade unions, and the press. It took more than 8 hours for non-governmental delegates, like Heritage’s Steven Groves and Ben Lieberman, to check in on December 14th. The New York Times described the registration system as chaotic, and notes that the overflow of freezing unregistered delegates forced the Copenhagen police to shut down the subway stop nearest the conference. The problem: despite some two years of planning, the United Nations organizers failed to come up with a way to fit the 45,000 people they registered for the conference into the 15,000 person capacity Bella Center. Oops.
