And as far as "debate" goes, yes it is over. It was over before Prop. 8 was drafted and put on the ballot. That's the order of democracy. marriage is a union between one man and one woman, period. It isn't something that "evolved" from tribal rituals, and it isn't something that "existed before the bible was written" as butt buddies like argue. It isn't something that is just as much a "right" for two people of the same sex who "love" one another as it is for "straights".
Marriage, and the meaning of marriage was established from the very beginning with the creation of Man.
Marriage was never just a human contract, it was instituted by God with Adam and Eve. One man and One Woman, for life. The coming together of one man and one woman to complete each other, and begin again the cycle of life. Fags need to get over it. "love" even if that's what they feel for each other, does not mean the next logical step is to marry each other. There is nothing to complete. Does a person who loves a lot of people need to marry them all? Of course not. We are all supposed to love one another. But shouldn't kindle sexual desires, especially with those of the same sex. Queers are confusing lust with love. They are confusing a lust to have perverted deviant sexual relations with another man with Love. That isn't love. That is mental illness. They weren't "born that way". They developed that way because something wasn't right, or something happened during that crucial period in early development.
Regardless of whatever caused this deviant behavior and lust for unnatural, disgusting sexual acts, that is not "love", and the kind of love between people of the same sex, usually a result of a long term friendships within a community network and relatives isn't what marriage was meant for either.
Marriage is God’s established rule of order.
