Newsweek has published a deep, multi-chapter account of the entire 2008 presidential campaign, with a lot of inside perspective. Somewhere in the middle, it deals with Sen. John McCain's friendship with Sen. Joe Lieberman.
McCain had apparently pitched Lieberman's name for the No. 2 spot on the ticket, but the idea was quickly shot down by his advisers.

Bite me.
The Republican Party was born in strife and will die in strife. If it can not be turned from its RINO ways, then the ship must be scuttled to prevent it from falling into the hands of the leftist enemy.
It is not I who is destroying the Republicans. It is the Republicans who are destroying the Republicans. When 30 year members are walking off the job in droves, the problem is not with those quitting the party, it is with the delusional idiots who fail to believe there is a problem at all.
It is precisely because I care that I have removed myself from the Republicans. If I did not care, if it was just another club to belong to, I would not have done so.
This is a matter of deeply held conviction, and I will stand against McCain, and any other who attempts to falsely don the mantle of Conservatism, or of the Pro-Life cause, or try to manipulate the purposes of Reagan's Coalition with deceitful rhetoric.
As to "my little cabal", my views were known here long before rabscuttle385 was even a member here. I declared my position before the primary season began, and was outspoken for Reagan Conservatives throughout the primary, rescinded my Republican membership when the last Reagan Conservative stepped out of the contest, and have been defending Reagan Conservatism and a Reaganite candidate ever since.
That will continue as long as JR grants me leave upon this forum. If you think it is self-aggrandizing to be verbally beaten, falsely accused, and mischaracterized on a daily basis, then you have another think coming.
But I will do my part to see the Baker globalists fail. I see them as a more present danger than any other, and have risen to fight them accordingly.
A house divided cannot stand, and Conservatism cannot abide globalism/socialism, so the choice is clear. The Republicans have chosen to embrace globalism, which is a form of socialism. I am a Conservative. What are you?
How adroit ... bwahahahahaha, punk.
***And the nastiness of your little cabal is well known.***
Look who’s talking.
I think that we’ll find that those who take his/her position, are the same freepers who were pro-Bush and pro-illegal immigration, citing the same excuses for their(R)hino positions. At some point someone made of list of their ‘army’ and got into trouble for it. It isn’t really necessary to list them tho, most of them can easily be found on those “day-in-the-life threads.
This election, from it's beginning, was about spitting in the Conservatives' eye. It was about making up the difference in the middle. As it turns out, your player got the same answer every other RINO has- with bells on.
[::STANDING OVATION::]
We were running a *R*. We just weren’t running a Conservative.
Oh, I forgot. I can’t say anythng and I’m responsible for all the woes cause I didn’t vote for president. 8^(
