We’re on the ‘do not call’ list and haven’t been harassed by them for several years. It’s been great. However, every charity in the world has our phone number, not to mention the campaign ‘bots that were constantly calling. Our phone died two weeks ago, and we decided to get ‘caller id’. Best thing we ever did!
I’ve stopped answering the phone because everyone wants something from me....even my kids!
I have been on the “do not call” list for years and yet I still get sales calls. Most aggressive telemarketers just ignore the list. I even get them at 8 in the am. When I mention that even if I were not on the list, they are required to call after 9am … I’m told that they can call as early as 8:30. When I bring to their attention that it is only a little after 8 am they just get snippety and hang up (only to call again after 9am).
If I attempt to complain at the “do not call” site, I get the scripted message that it takes many complaints to get an investigation started.
I will admit that the number of telemarketing calls are not what the used to be … they seem to be growing in number recently.
We got caller ID and an answering machine. Great combo.
Before that I would get calls:
T: Hello, may I speak to Mr. Right Wing Assault?
me: Uh, just a minute, I’ll get Right for you.
me: “Hey, Right! Phone call for you. No, I don’t know who it is, but it sounds pretty important.”
Then I would stall for a minute or so and make noises as if I were trying to get someone to come to the phone. “Hey, Right! Are you coming? This guy’s waiting.”
Then I would call one of my toddlers over and quietly tell him to talk to my friend on the phone.
