Because she is vey popular with the party, but is not taken seriously outside of it. I think she’s too damaged to be an effective candidate in a general election.

I consider the Republican party being a liberal RINO party and any conservative (registered Republican or not) out side the party.
The GOP has effectively squashed any semblance of conservativism in it's ranks and continues to destroy anyone who shows any.
This is too silly for words. She's the most wildly popular Republican in years and she has four years to earn credibility with independents. There is no such thing as "too damaged" when over 90% of your party loves you.

“Romney may not be the preeminent choice among FR, but in the general population I think he would be. I think a great many FReepers are out of touch with the electorate if they honestly think politicians like Duncan Hunter or the chick from Alaska are going to strike a chord.
Conservatism is going through a tough time right now, rightly or wrongly. Thats one of the reasons McCain is the nomineeits not a DNC conspiracy to select him, its a reflection of voter discontent with the perceived conservative elements of the GOP.”
