That comes out to around 72 a year, so I don't know how commonplace they were--

So, that is six a month, which is more then one a week.

How many lynchings do you need before you cross the line from "rare" to "common place"?

It seems a point that is not worth discussing since any number is way too many.........Correct?

I suspected you were someone looking to grandstand, but I gave you the benefit of the doubt. Won't get fooled again.

Please show where in my post I supported lynching, or said anything remotely approving of this practice?

You can't, because I didn't. Any idiot who supports lynching probably can't figure out how to sign on to the Internet in the first place.

What DID I do?

I disputed the choice of a word in a written article.

Obamaism has infected FR already--merely talking about GRAMMAR in an article gets one suspected of supporting lynching.

Do we say murders are commonplace? No, they're unusual. And there are more murders than 72 a year.

Don't try your self-applauding crap with me.

How many of the lynchings over that period of time were racially motivated? It was common for accused criminals (and convicted ones too) to be hauled out by the public and strung up. Vigilantism is always a horror; I never champion any of the calls for vigilante justice I see on FR.

There were also union workers who would lynch scabs and those who broke the picket lines.

It is a falacy to believe that every lynching in America was a white mob lynching some black man, woman, or child.

This website has some details on some research on lynching from 1882-1968. Some details even on individual states (some states had no lynchings and some states have no record of any black people being lynched). And yes there is a racial component (3-1) of black people being lynched to white people. I do question the research that no one was ever lynched in America before 1882. And I do agree with the statement that there are likely lynchings of black people that were not recorded as such.

If my take on history is correct, most of the lynchings occured as vigilante justice in the old West (you know rustlers, horse thieves, etc) because there was no other recourse. There was a shortage of lawmen and judges and people had to solve problems themselves. My point is that most lynchings weren't Klansmen hanging blacks.

This one kinda reminds me of Bill Clinton's remarks about black churches burning when he was a young man....which turned out not to be true.
